if I had the time and the money to be obsessed with myself like they are in that film I'd have either no kids or plenty babysitters

I'm fed up hearing the media going on about this stupid film as if we are all interested in it

bag'o'shite if you ask me

Always seemed (when I saw it) to consist of wistful SJP voiceovers saying eg 'And that was when I realized that life is like [insert half-arsed simile of your choice]' and typing a column about it while wearing some sort of daring ensemble

rookiemater · 24/05/2010 19:47

Agree with Bafana, the TV series much better less sanitised, especially the earlier series.

First film was ridiculous, particularly hated the scenes where the "girls" chatted about sex in front of Charlottes 5 year old daughter who seemed a) not to notice and b) to behave impeccably for hours on end so true to life, not.

Apparently this one may be about Carries dilemma over having a baby, well if that's the case it could take about 10 minutes, because without assistance that boat has well and truly flown for them at least 5 years ago.

Do not want to go and see it but feel I may end up there on some misconceived girly night out.

BafanaBafana · 24/05/2010 19:48

Yeh but what about the bits where she shagged Aiden

harleyd · 24/05/2010 19:52

never seen it, no desire to ever see it

cocolepew · 24/05/2010 19:53

Exactly BB.

rookiemater · 24/05/2010 19:54

I did like the bit in the series when she was with Aiden ( who holds no attraction for me) but was having raunchy affair with hugely sexy (at the time) Mr Big

thegirlwiththemouseyhair · 24/05/2010 19:57

excellent article
She is SO right

differentID · 24/05/2010 19:57

Never watched it, never had a desire to do so. I just find the premise so vapid and pointless, I can't be bothered to waste my time with it.

RockinSockBunnies · 24/05/2010 20:05

I agree that the SATC film isn't as good as the series was and I'm not sure if the next film will be any good at all.

BUT

The series was amazing! I thought it reflected my experiences of being female in a way that no other show has managed to do. I've told DP that if he ever needs to understand me then all he needs to do is to watch the show.

dizietsma · 24/05/2010 20:09

I enjoyed John Corbett much more in Northern Exposure, and recently in United States of Tara. I didn't have to suffer shit sexist consumerist nonsense TV for the pleasure either.

southeastastra · 24/05/2010 20:10

find it odd that people can judge it by just watching bits of it. oh well

BafanaBafana · 24/05/2010 20:10

I wasn't a fan of him when SATC originally aired. I was in my 20s and attracted to bastards alpha males. but now I have aged mellowed a bit, I find him alluring when I watch re-runs of SATC, which is hardly ever

champagnesupernova · 24/05/2010 20:12

I am a journalist and pretty much every press release I've had in the last three weeks has been tenuously linked to SATC if it's vaguely girl related and the World Cup for blokes.

dizietsma · 24/05/2010 20:14

I watched a whole season and several other episodes here and there. I think I sacrificed enough of my precious life to it to make an informed choice on SATC's hideousness. I don't think it's necessary to watch an entire run of a show to make a judgment on it's crapness either.

cocolepew · 24/05/2010 20:15

I thought I would hate it and didn't watch when it first started, but it was smart, smutty and very funny. And had Aiden.

caffeineaddict · 24/05/2010 20:15

It's a waste of good eyesight.

dizietsma · 24/05/2010 20:17

All they talk about is fucking and clothes. None of them are complete without a man. I find that offensive. Oh, and the only black people you see are maids and shop assistants, which in a city like New York, FFS, I find very racist.

islandofsodor · 24/05/2010 20:19

I too have never watched even a single episode. All I know is that there is a character called Carrie in it and that she buys a certain brand of shoes Manolo Blahnk or something.

dizietsma · 24/05/2010 20:19

Sorry I take that back, I did see Miranda with a black basketball coach once. Which is totally not a stereotype or anything.

plonker · 24/05/2010 20:33

I read the thread title as "am I the only female in the universe who couldn't give a shit about bloody sex"

I was heartily agreeing ...

Northernlurker · 24/05/2010 20:45

Miranda's boyfriend was a highly paid sports doctor actually.

I love SATC - so shoot me.

BafanaBafana · 24/05/2010 20:47

Miranda's basketball coach boyfriend was YUM, that's all I know. Steve v FIT loaded basketball boss type who adores you? It was a no-brainer. Silly Miranda!

mizu · 24/05/2010 20:47

Never watched it, don't want to

WinkyWinkola · 24/05/2010 20:48

I've watched it maybe twice. Thought it was boring, irrelevant and vapid.

ViveLeCliche · 24/05/2010 20:48

dizietsma Are you thinking of the character played by Blair Underwood? I thought he was the Dr. for the Nicks and not a baseball coach?
