if I had the time and the money to be obsessed with myself like they are in that film I'd have either no kids or plenty babysitters

I'm fed up hearing the media going on about this stupid film as if we are all interested in it

bag'o'shite if you ask me

Have seen bits of it, in passing. I find it embarrassing - this is what women are into? Terrible role models.

Polgara2 · 24/05/2010 20:58

Nope never watched it, don't think I'm missing anything from the clips.

ifancyashandy · 24/05/2010 21:03

I love it! But can't abide Carrie - waaaaaay too self obsessed. Would drop her like a hot cake if she were a mate of mine.

But love Samantha and the clothes. Oh, the clothes!

(ps Aiden was a creep. Big Rules! Or Burger. I'd do Burger!)

Hassled · 24/05/2010 21:07

The TV series were great. The women were strong, smart, funny, independent, interesting - well, except Carrie who was always annoyingly needy.

The film was truly, truly awful, though - such a shame.

wukter · 24/05/2010 21:07

When Miranda had the baby she wasn't shown panting prettily in full makeup.
Her breasts got big and sore.
It took her quite a few episodes to lose the baby weight.

Not like the usual way of having babies in tellyland.

SixtyFootDoll · 24/05/2010 21:09

I watched one episode, was so dull.

HAte the aassumption that women are only interested in men, shoes and clothes,

Hassled · 24/05/2010 21:10

Yes, and when Samantha was having chemo she was sick and sweaty and decidely unglamorous. It wasn't the show lots of people believe it to be - it was never exactly profound, but nor was it completely shallow.

And it was always Big. Big was the one. Aiden was a wuss.

PussinJimmyChoos · 24/05/2010 21:10

Blair Underwood was a Dr for the Knicks....and very mmmmmm

But, even then they were conforming to stereotypes as after Miranda broke up with him, they bumped into each other on the stairs and he started talking about their sex life and how she said 'no man has ever been in me this deep'....ie black man = big dick

Not that I was complaining mind, Blair Underwood's would do me just fine I'm sure

BafanaBafana · 24/05/2010 21:12

Oh, Americans are totally weird about mixed race relationships, though!

They didn't just talk about sex and clothes, either.

Charlotte's infertility, Samantha's breast cancer, all of their careers - all big storylines.

ifancyashandy · 24/05/2010 21:13

Well said Hassled and wukter on all points.

TheMysticMasseuse · 24/05/2010 21:14

the tv series was amazing, empowering, liberating, and funny as hell. The clothes were totally incidental (if you see seasons 1 and 2 you'll see Carrie is more into kooky vintage weird stuff than designers). It got more materialistic as the series progressed, but it was never about the material stuff, really, and anyone who claims that really missed the point.

The relationship between the 4 was great and not at all stereotypical. I grieved when it ended, I feel like I lost 4 great friends.

Miranda's journey into motherhood is something I could totally relate to.

Which is why watching the film was so atrociously disappointing, and why I won't be watching the sequel.

ifancyashandy · 24/05/2010 21:17

(I still watch the show on a regular basis on the Comedy channel. Still makes me laugh.)

Northernlurker · 24/05/2010 21:29

The film was dire I agree.

helyg · 24/05/2010 21:33

ssd: I don't have much money... I have a voucher for the local beauty salon left over from Christmas which runs out next month which is paying for my nails, the afternoon screening of the film is cheaper, and the cocktails will be in a student bar! We are all skint due to small children, house purchases etc, but it will at least make us feel glam

atomicsnowflake · 24/05/2010 21:57

Never watched it. Not my type of thing.

2shoes · 24/05/2010 21:58

never seen it

ssd · 25/05/2010 19:22

helyg, sounds great!

don't mind me, I'm just having a moan, hope you have a great time!

TV Series - witty, enjoyable, well observed, well written, intelligent, funny, fun.

Film - dreadful.

satc2bringiton · 25/05/2010 23:15

You people that hate it are all missing out, its brilliant

Have been looking forward to this film for months!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/05/2010 15:34

just over 27hrs to go and im seeing sitc 2 !!!

Cicatrice · 27/05/2010 15:39

Never "got" it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/05/2010 15:50

I loathe it all.

The first series I think was pretty good - it was completely different i think than the subsequent series, which descended into cliched nonsense imo.

I did watch them all - it was like Friends, i watched every series avidly even though I realised the whole concept had jumped the shark about 4 years previous.

The absolute travesty I think was that Carrie endedup with Big at the end of the series. I thought the whole point of Carrie was that she was fundamentally a single girl. Mind you, by that time, I thoroughly loathed Carrie and was hoping that the denoument of the whole thing would be that she was murdered in gruesome fashion by Mikhail baryshnikov's ghastly character.

The film was beyond awful.

Turniphead1 · 27/05/2010 15:53

You are not alone. Can't bear it. Watched a bit of the tv series but found it repetetive nonsense. Never watched first film. Yawn.
It's strange. I love LOADS of sh*te but can't bear SATC.
My sister says it's because I met my DH when I was 23 and was never a single professional woman....
