Rivals I think for me, nostalgia AND how the other half live!

White Lotus, again, how the other half live!

Profe and Prejudice (Colin Firth version). Perfect cast, enough time for characters to develop. Brideshead Revisited. Again the cast was great - I can’t imagine any other actors in those roles. Money Heist - gripping and fantastic story. X-Files. Loved it. And most recently 100 Years of Solitude. Couldn’t get through the book but the series was amazing. Got to add Shameless (the US one). Brilliant ensemble cast.

Prisoner cell block H. Loved it and was addicted to it for years.

Season 1 of The Handmaid's Tale. I studied it 30 years ago for A Level and I thought it was stupid and that would happen in America. Watching the series many years later I realised that this could very much happen. The tension and sense of fear and terror had me gripped.

ilovepixie · 11/09/2026 19:43

V the mini series about Aliens coming to earth.

Another for The West Wing- last season I was heartbroken trying to figure out what I’d watch next!!

Being Human.

I loved every series. It had humour, humanity and horror. It killed off all of the original main characters (to whom I'd grown very attached) in series 3 and 4 but it remained totally gripping.

mondaytosunday · 11/09/2026 19:55

French version with of The Bureau. A million times better than the American remake. Squid Game. Original.

LathkillDale · 11/09/2026 19:56

Lucifer
Frasier
The Mentalist
Jane Eyre (Toby Stephens version)
Shetland
Unforgotten
Patience

I like criminal/murder mysteries. Jane Eyre is my favourite book. The first three were a mixture of comedy, romance and tragedy!

AmberHollow · 11/09/2026 19:56

Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. Both in the spooky bracket but so well done, well written storylines and so much emotional depth. I’ve watched each one about three times, great as we head into darker nights!

Yes we enjoyed Lincoln Lawyer and POI too. After POI we did Criminal Minds.

Mad Men

Waitingfordoggo · 11/09/2026 19:59

I’ve got a few favourites, all quite old now.

Unforgotten
River
Inside Number 9
Black Mirror

Edit to add the ‘why’ as per OP’s request.

Loved the casts in Unforgotten and River, and the plots were clever.

Inside Number 9- just ingenious writing. Often funny but also pretty sinister in places.

Black Mirror- Again, unbelievably clever writing, and I just really enjoy scaring the shit out of myself with dystopian possibilities.

The Tower: A tale of two cities

An 8 part series that was on in 2007.
I'm not a great watcher of television but this one captured me, very sad in places.
