White Lotus, again, how the other half live!

Boys from the Blackstuff made a huge impact on me
Pride and Prejudice
Blackadder
Line of Duty
Happy Valley
Detectorists

CharlesPetrescu · 12/09/2026 12:34

Ooh another one I had forgotten about is the medical drama Bodies - written by an ex doctor who also wrote Line of Duty. The Keith Allen character in it makes it particularly memorable and introduces some humour into a rather bleak programme.

Guilt - a comedy thriller with a great sound track

Early Silent Witness
Northern Exposure - I wanted to move there, life at a lovely pace
Twin Peaks - didn't want to move here obviously
Vicar of Dibley - total madness
Red Dwarf - totally bonkers with some brilliant one liners
Supernatural
Gilmore Girls - used to re-watch this annually. Missed it out last year - not sure I can watch again loved Stars Hollow but not the lives of either of the Lorelei's
The Detectorists
Good Omens
All Creatures Great and Small - 1st incarnation haven't got around to watching the remake
Babylon 5 - my favourite alien G'Kar - some wonderful speechs
Downton Abbey
LIne of Duty
Spooks - as someone else said the early ones
Blackadder best was the Tudor era
The Witcher - early series
The Sandman
1883 - so sad
Dark Winds - series 1 - hoping Netflix take up the next 2 series

And yet I can never find anything to watch. Just rewatched Broadchurch but don't think I'll bother again ditto One Tree Hill - used to watch with DD2 tried again and didn't even finish series 1

I thought I was the only person to have seen Bodies! Jed Mercurio listed it as the series he was most proud of writing. Keith Allen was brilliant in it.

Landman, - BBT is excellent as ever
The Man in the High Castle, - I like dystopian series and Rufus Sewell is just so good in this
Fellow Travelers, - so sad
A Place to Call Home, - I couldn't stop watching this.

FFSItsTooHot · 12/09/2026 16:42

I absolutely loved The Fall. A close second was In Flight.

Same. I would also add Small Prophets to that.

middleagedmermaid · 12/09/2026 17:14

I just finished watching The Haunting Of Bly Manor on Netflix. Not only a fantastic spooky ghost story but a beautiful and bittersweet love story on every level

Cassiteiri · 12/09/2026 18:16

Got, lost, fringe

BiteSizeByzantine · 12/09/2026 18:18

@Justmadesourkraut

Ah thank you - I didn't know that Jed Mercurio had said that. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who remembers it. I recall now he also wrote Cardiac Arrest, another medical drama- from a little earlier I think- if you have seen that too.

chattyness · 12/09/2026 18:31

I've got so many favourites but I think top of the list for me is the NZ series Outrageous Fortune and the prequel to it called Westside.

It's so well written and the whole cast are brilliant, I couldn't pick a favourite character because they're all so good. It's just got so much in it, it's funny, but also has it's dramatic moments that pull at the heartstrings a bit, it's just perfect.

EyesOnTheFries · 12/09/2026 19:11

In no particular order:
The Bridge and The Killing
Happy Valley
The Wire
Fleabag
Schitt’s Creek
Normal People
Gillmore Girls - my comfort watch, seen it at least 3 times
My so called life - from my teens. It was a travesty they never made a 2nd season

SinuousTendrils · 12/09/2026 19:12

It's a Sin was devastating

Urgentbiscuitrequired · 12/09/2026 20:00

Silo
Line of Duty
Unforgotten
Red Dwarf 1-6

Topbird29 · 12/09/2026 20:15

Andor - liked the way they showed how the resistance weren't always acting in a moral way, but was for the greater good after all. And the droid is excellent. Loved stellan skaarsgard in it - he is such a good actor.
The Other Bennett sister - lovely acting, and she was such a sweet character and loved how she blossomed when away from her mother.
Only murders in the building - love the chemistry between the actors (as Steve and Martin) have known each other for years, and just seems like it's a lovely show to work on!

Currently enjoying Ludwig, and whilst never watched normal Traitors, we did watch the celebrity one this year - so waiting for that to start

Back in the day loved ER. Will be getting HBO max soon for my DS to watch The Lanterns, but might have to binge the Pitt.

So many series on my to watch list too - the bear, rivals, breaking bad...

My so called life was so good. I watched it again quite recently and it still holds.

Jordan Catalano!!

Middlemarch123 · 12/09/2026 22:15

Peaky Blinders
Line of Duty
Broadchurch
Last Tango in Halifax

Dopop · 12/09/2026 22:28

I have two.

Mad Men because of the amazing writing, storylines and incredible attention to detail.

Chernobyl for much the same reasons. Soviet history is fascinating to me, and I lived in Russia in the late 2010s when I was a student of Russian language, so I thought it captured the atmosphere and spirit of the place remarkably well.

hafig · 12/09/2026 22:28

Chernobyl, was so gripping from start to finish, I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it now.

newname677 · 12/09/2026 22:29

Freaks and Geeks

Every episode was perfect

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 12/09/2026 22:30

I, Claudius - wonderful ensemble cast, great script, simply the best soap.opera material.
