Profe and Prejudice (Colin Firth version). Perfect cast, enough time for characters to develop. Brideshead Revisited. Again the cast was great - I can’t imagine any other actors in those roles. Money Heist - gripping and fantastic story. X-Files. Loved it. And most recently 100 Years of Solitude. Couldn’t get through the book but the series was amazing. Got to add Shameless (the US one). Brilliant ensemble cast.

Edited

OMG yes... Money Heist!

I really enjoyed Widow’s Bay on Apple TV this year. Original, funny, scary, great characters, great plot. I’m going to watch it again soon.

So many people have recommended Widow's Bay to me recently. I'm planning to binge it when the winter sets in.

Thehorticulturalhussie · 11/09/2026 20:17

Happy Valley. Sublime acting.
The Last Kingdom.
The Great. Huzzah!
What we do in the Shadows. Bat!!

hexsnidgett · 11/09/2026 20:18

Six Feet Under omg so powerful.
The West Wing and ER tie for second place.

Thehorticulturalhussie · 11/09/2026 20:19

And Detectorists. Perfect casting, understated and brilliant writing.

tanqueray10 · 11/09/2026 20:20

It’s genuinely brilliant. I hope they do a season 2. The characters are all bonkers but hilarious, I just want more of them

YvieYfronts · 11/09/2026 20:23

My favourite ever is Succession. The weirdest part is the first episode of Series 1 left me cold but I tried a second time after they released series 2 and I was hooked.

I’ve also loved Industry and It’s a Sin.

Eyesopenwideawake · 11/09/2026 20:23

Succession
House of Cards (UK & US)
Ozark
The Fall of the House of Usher
The Gentlemen.

ETA - How could I forget Happy Valley and Line of Duty?!

SpottyAlpaca · 11/09/2026 20:24

Yes Minister/ Prime Minister. Incredibly sharp, clever & accurate satire which just never, ever gets old. Funny, too.
The West Wing. Beautifully written & performed fantasy about what a genuinely decent US Presidency could achieve.

Buffy. Silly but enjoyable.
Spooks. The early seasons were best.
This Life. It’s one of life’s great mysteries that Daniela Nardini didn’t become a major star.

Inside Number 9
Happy Valley
Whitechapel

Are you seeing a connection here .....? Grin

The West Wing. Great storylines, wonderfully written.
Rob Lowe.

Without a doubt the most perfect series ever. My happy place is watching re-runs curled up with chocolate.

Rewatched the West Wing and I dont think it has aged well. Loved it first time round. Sorkin’s dialogue is witty and energetic, but on rewatch it just comes axross as contrived ans artificial, everyone speaks in perfectly constructed arguments, produces obscure facts on demand and delivers devastating comebacks without hesitation, just grates after a while.

Friends
Frasier
Desperate Housewives

Every time I need a little comfort watch I turn to Frasier… such good characterisation!

HangryBrickShark · 11/09/2026 20:26

I loved Dirty John Season one and two and I also really enjoyed The Good Liar with Sir Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren. I also loved Stalker - its a drama about victims of stalking and the detectives of the LAPD'S Threat Assessment Unit who investigate the crimes and was well worth watching if you can find it.

Happy Valley and Unforgotten were great combinations of story and cast.

Honourable mentions are:
Trigger Point
Walking Dead
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
Lost
Only Murders In The Building
Wednesday

But the one I watch most regularly is the original BBC Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. Absolutely awesome.

RosieLeaLovesTea · 11/09/2026 20:28

@HelpMebeok we have the same taste I was going to say This is Us
and Schitts creek. Also Breaking Bad and better call Saul

UnitaBath · 11/09/2026 20:28

The Affair
Nashville
Normal People
And yes, Rivals for me too because of the nostalgia

The others no real reason other than I really enjoyed them.

Themsofcoffee · 11/09/2026 20:29

Six Feet Under, it had a great structure to each episode that was the hook, and great characters.

Edge of Darkness, with Bob Peck

Hated Frasier when I was younger but absolutely love it now, it’s so well written and acted.
Sons of Anarchy is a brilliant series, the characters are likeable and horrifying at the same time.
Also love Stranger Things.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/09/2026 20:34
