David Mitchell reprises his role as John 'Ludwig' Taylor, the reclusive puzzle-setter thrown into the world of policing after his identical twin brother James, a detective chief inspector, vanished without explanation.

The detective dramedy series (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a71857231/bbc-ludwig-renewed-season-three/), which stars David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, will drop its second season on BBC One on 20 August,

Season one saw James go missing, which led to his twin brother pretending to be him as he infiltrated the local police station to investigate, and he ended up helping to solve other cases

The synopsis for the second season (https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a71744111/ludwig-season-2-must-watch-mystery/) reads: "Now that he's an official employee of the station, John is forbidden from using any police resources to look for his brother or uncover exactly what he was investigating.

Of course, John won't stop, and neither will Lucy, John's sister-in-law and wife of his missing brother James - a puzzle needs solving and a husband and father needs bringing home. One masquerade may have ended, but a new one has just begun."

Why Ludwig season 2 is set to be the BBC's next must-watch mystery

Fans have grown impatient.

I liked the teacher murder episode best from the last series. It was good getting some insight into John as a child.

yes I guess you didn't have to know too much about series 1 to follow it. I enjoyed it, though the puzzle wasn't too much of a puzzle really!

It had very little to do with Cambridge other than a few gratuitous shots of King's college chapel...
There isn't a theatre or most of the other buildings in Cambridge, especially not the police station, and none of the roads have ever been as empty as that

At least it’s better than Professor T, much of which is filmed in Belgium. The interiors may be typical of Belgian universities but not Cambridge ones. Ben Millar has been seen to go from one part of Jesus College to another (his house) via King’s Backs, although they are on the same block IRL.

The roof (where he does some of his thinking) is marked as such on Google Maps. πŸ˜€

In the first ten minutes of Ludwig last night we saw The Anchor, Queen’s College, St Botolph’s Church, and the front of Selwyn College taken from Grange Road. Yes, I do get distracted from the plot.

I thought the Cambridge Tour Guide episode was great. It had the Reverend from This Country in it.

Yes, I enjoyed that one. The β€˜American’ tour guide was played by Ella Bruccoleri, from Call the Midwife and The Other Bennet Sister.

Tut tut. Queens’ College, not Queen’s College, in Cambridge.

It’s between Queen’s Road and Queens Lane.

Which is weird, because Prof T was Belgian in the first place.

Edited

I think it has a Belgian production company.

edit: the director is Belgian.

I liked the teacher murder one as well for the reason we found out more about John's childhood.

@BakeOffRewatch totally agree that the love between Lucy and John is in no way romantic. I liked James's message to John at the end of series one when he said that he hadn't accounted for the depth of John's friendship with Lucy as he assumed that John would never get involved and Lucy would leave like James told her to. This shows both the strength of platonic love between Lucy and John and also the romantic love between James and Lucy because Lucy is desperate to find James and is devastated by the fake message that James left her because he was bored.

I liked the teacher one - very poignant flashback scenes - though initially I thought the deaf deputy typical BBC virtue signally until the final scene…

Gosh I’m misreading things so. I was thinking Lucy has a very soft spot John and thinks that she probably married the wrong twin. Blush

I think there have been some scenes that have suggested that.

Have watched Thursday’s upcoming episode, as will be away with friends, from tomorrow till the following Monday. Had to sit on my hands, not to watch the following one, as no similar excuse! My lips are sealed.

Same

and surely if fancies one she would the other

I also think she married the wrong twin as he didn’t seem to care about her /make his feelings obvious so went with his twin - so that he would still be in her life

Have to say delighted to say the fabulous Mark Bonnar in this!

He had a narrow escape from being snagged by Helen Archer, otherwise he’d be stuck in Ambridge until he was accidentally drowned in a vat of Borchester Blue.

I fancy mark bonnar. He was good in Guilty

Lucy wears some fabulous coats and jackets, does anyone know where the navy and red one from episode 3 is from? Googling has got me nowhere!

Super in Shetland as well.

Johntaylorschin · Yesterday 22:17

I’m struggling with Lucy’s outfits, the mini skirt and white ankle socks seem really silly and don’t fit her character.

Have seen episode 1 of new series. Off to a great start. I absolutely love it

Treylime · Yesterday 22:48

I thought it was a bit odd that Evans and Finch were replaced. Ive not warmed to the new pair. My theory is that they are secretly working in the basement on the Holly files. (Though pp saying the actors are in other shows makes me doubt my theory)

PrincessScarlett · Yesterday 22:59

@Treylime I like the idea of Finch and Evans working in the basement. It would be great if John stumbled upon them at some point. Particularly as he said that he liked them and they liked him.

TheSmellOfSea · Yesterday 23:59

I found the wedding one daft.

Not enjoying this series as much tbh.

Professor T filming locations.

The photo is Portugal Place but the article says

β€œFor season four, nearly all of the college interiors were filmed at a former international boarding school for girls, now known as The Winter Garden of the Ursulines.
Meanwhile, the ChΓ’teau de La Hulpe doubled as the interior of Jasper’s office, while the lecture theatre was filmed at the academiezaal Sint Truiden.”

The crime drama is set in Cambridge, but doesn't always film there
