David Mitchell reprises his role as John 'Ludwig' Taylor, the reclusive puzzle-setter thrown into the world of policing after his identical twin brother James, a detective chief inspector, vanished without explanation.

Season one saw James go missing, which led to his twin brother pretending to be him as he infiltrated the local police station to investigate, and he ended up helping to solve other cases

interesting to hear which ones are people’s favourites! I loved the episode 4 construction one because figuring out the murder was at the heart of it. When I rewatch the others I’ll keep everyone’s favourite bits in mind. I didn’t really believe the motive in the teacher one, but you are right it was a good episode to know more about John and James. I liked the old teacher. I didn’t remember the murder in the first episode I had to look it up. Loved the second episode in the hotel for the humour, they worked together as a team! Episode 2, 3 and 4 were really strong for me because of the murder plot. But I’ll focus more on the story around the murder plots next time.

Ziegler really reminds me of another character in something else. I think it might be a film (but could be a TV show). Can anyone help me? I’ve done some searching online, but not found who it is yet!

Every time Ziegler appeared I kept thinking where have I seen him before?

He is Ralph Ineson and looking at his list of roles he has been in lots of stuff, he plays the character really well he has such a distinctive voice.

I know him as Finchy from The Office.

Are there going to be twists? We are being led to believe that Ziegler is a 'baddy' but maybe he isn't.

I’m imagining the costume lead shouting “Yes!” on reading this. It’s a great image of exactly what Lucy is doing, wrangling press badges and going investigating, as well as dressing.

@Treylime I thought they were setting up Ziegler as a baddie in S1, but in this episode it seemed more like he’s toeing a boundary and one consistent theme has been that there are things even Ma’am Carol doesn’t know that Ziegler would know. I was intrigued by the frostiness between Ziegler and his deputy who liaises with the Met. That was quite a contemptuous “Sir” from the Deputy when Ziegler arrived at Joanne Kemper’s house.

I thought Ziegler was a baddie in series one but I think it was deliberately set up that way to mislead us viewers.

We watched episode 1 yesterday , I am not keen on the 2 new police people and I can’t say I enjoyed it as much as I did any of the first season . I think Ziegler thinks that he is James masquerading as John to get back into the station .

Me too. I understand the old two are very popular atm and probably don’t have time to film a middle of the road procedural but losing them has taken a lot from the new series. The replacements are quite nothingy.

I thought ep 1 was alright enough but e2 was painfully dull. Lost my enthusiasm for it which is a shame because I was looking forward to it coming back.
