@Piggywaspushed I know what you mean about it being a bit jarring that Michael was such an arse, when Sue seems very straightforward.

Anyway I absolutely loved it, and I really didn't expect to! Funny, and touching, I didn't want it to end. And I really want a Linda.

@murasaki I hope you have given it a try? I don't like Mandy or Cunk either, but this is totally different.

murasaki · 23/08/2026 11:21

Oh I binged it ages ago and loved it! I also like the others, but know that some people don't...

Shellingbynight · 23/08/2026 11:26

Oh good, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I have no idea why Sue! Sue! Sue! gives me the giggles so much.
Diane Morgan is just a star in everything does.

Sadly that was only in e1

then was sue singular

Much as I really loved it, I find some of the standards tropes you always get in these comedies tiresome and predictable. The quirky and unlikely side characters, there’s always a horrid acquaintance who comes good in the end (her show off friend in this case), the spoiled brat son...

It reminded me a lot of ‘mum’ - the widowed main character with heart of gold who’s taken advantage of, the selfish adult son, unlikeable side characters. It’s all quite formulaic.

Yeah, it's a sitcom. Of course it's formulaic. It's not experimental theatre!

I watched Mum recently and found it tedious, 3 whole series of her just playing a weak doormat. Couldn’t quite understand it, it was just the same thing each series 🥴

MasterBeth · 25/08/2026 23:07

Why would you watch three whole series of something you don't like, @TheChosenTwo ?

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2026 23:10

I loved Mum ! She finally got her revenge on them all by doing what she wanted to do , it just took her a while to get that point! Too much of a people pleaser.

TheSmellOfSea · 26/08/2026 11:32

Loved her sarcastic wit.

TheSmellOfSea · 27/08/2026 12:35

That's good news @berlinbaby2025

NewAgeNewMe · 27/08/2026 14:34

Ahh good news.

SirChenjins · 27/08/2026 18:12

Brilliant news ☺️

Very good question! The answer lies somewhere in between the fact that I was laid up for a couple of weeks recovering from an operation and that it was easy lazy viewing, just very dissatisfying - kept thinking she’d find her backbone!

Thank God.

I finished watching today. I enjoyed it but didn't find it laugh out loud or tearful and touching, either. I didn't find it as funny as Mammoth.

I'll watch a second series if there is one.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 30/08/2026 22:41

Only just got round to Ann Droid. What a great series. And yes, I laughed and cried.

I lost my Dad this year so the ‘what is the value of a human life’ set to Alison Moyet’s ‘Only You’ set me off. Just when I thought I’d got a grip of the tears.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 31/08/2026 14:42

A second series has been commissioned!

I'm so looking forward forward to it.

I've just read an interview with Sue Johnston, and apparently when she recently went to a doctor's appointment, the doctor he (or she) called her Sue Sue Sue.

You just know she's going to have to put up with people calling her that for the rest of her life! 😲

I don't know why it's so funny, but it just is.

It makes me smile every time I think about Linda saying it.

I wish they'd continued with it, at least into the second episode.

Do you know that's the first time it has occurred to me that she is also Sue! ( Sue Sue)

Yes, I know!

Sue is her real name.

I wonder if Diane Morgan chose to use Sue Johnston's real name to facilitate the joke?

Whatever the reason, it definitely worked!

It just tickles me every time I think about it 😂

Piggywaspushed · 31/08/2026 15:27

Or maybe she wrote a character called Sue and then decided to ask Sue J if she'd do it?!

It must have been a bit confusing on set...

I guess we'll never know.

I'm looking forward to the second series.

I'm just a bit worried about Diane Morgan having to wear those intense blue contact lenses and not being allowed to blink!

I hope her eyes weren't injured by having to spend such a long time doing that.

Fransgran · 02/09/2026 20:43

Diane Morgan said in an interview that the whole non blinking thing was her idea. In retrospect she regretted it because it was difficult and very uncomfortable.

If you look closely at the final episode towards the end she does blink. I can't remember which scene though.

I also saw a blink too. Diane Morgan said she got an ulcer in her eye from not blinking enough!

Isobel201 · 03/09/2026 16:10

I imagine the not blinking probably made wearing contacts worse, but I know Daniel Radcliffe did also react to the green contact lenses and he couldn't wear them despite I presume being able to blink. I suspect Linda might have a blinking upgrade lol
