Yes, and Ghosts, Alma's Not Normal, Gavin and Stacey, Mum.

All funny, intelligent and often surprisingly moving. You can argue about the value of the license fee but the BBC does a lot of what it does to a very high standard. It's certainly not the least intelligent programming out there.

What about Ludwig?

No, calming. The first time I tried to watch episode 1 of Detectorists I was underwhelmed, but fortunately I watched it again with my husband and we were both hooked. Absolutely loved it. Small Prophets was also great. Really looking forward to the second series of Ludwig next week.

I have not laughed so much during a programme for ages. It has been a brilliant series. I enjoyed last night's episode vey much.

I wonder how much a Linda would cost? MIL has live in carers which costs a bomb, Linda I hope would be cheaper… thinking would it be a reality for me in about 10/15 years time…

My DVR only recorded the first 20 minutes of last night's episode, and then cut off!

I've set it to record the repeat on BBC2 on Monday night, but I'd love a synopsis of what happened after Sue and Linda went into the woods...

I'd also like to know who the BMW that they went camping in belonged to!

I wouldn't have felt easy having a robot driving the car!

Without spoilers, the car appears in the last episode. I seem to recall that she mentioned in passing earlier on in the series that her DH did all the driving.

Binge watched this after episode 1 as I loved it but have also been rewatching weekly. Still laughed and cried second time of watching. The pairing of Sue Johnston and Diane Morgan is just sublime and Diane is outstanding acting as a robot. All the little looks, delays and movements are spot on. We all need a Linda in our life. The poignancy in the last episode was just beautiful and loved the contrast between useless Michael and non human Linda. Linda showing us all how to be more human.

Anyone spot Michaels continuity error with the names?

Wasn't that just demonstrating that he has no interest in his mum's life so can't be bothered to know the names of her friends?

I loved this and think Michael is essential to show the idea that, sometimes, robots are better than people. He forms an important counterpoint to Linda.
I felt sad when Roxy 'died'! And loved Phyllis.

The only thing that irked me is Sue Johnston is a strong woman. I didn't really buy that she (even though I know she is acting) would be so dependent and would have brought up an unpleasant child like Michael. She is obviously supposed to have pampered and spoiled him but I didn't see that in her character really. Also, we are supposed to think Dave was great but how come Sue was so lacking in independence? Her whole life was Dave. It made her occasionally seem rather pathetic.

I know this happens IRL but somehow it niggled.

I did love the tape at the end. Unlike human, flawed Michael, Linda knows what Sue needs.

I expect they will work on more nuance to Michael in a next series.

Much as I really loved it, I find some of the standards tropes you always get in these comedies tiresome and predictable. The quirky and unlikely side characters, there’s always a horrid acquaintance who comes good in the end (her show off friend in this case), the spoiled brat son...

It reminded me a lot of ‘mum’ - the widowed main character with heart of gold who’s taken advantage of, the selfish adult son, unlikeable side characters. It’s all quite formulaic.
