Was an avid ER fan 20+ yes ago. See its now on netflux, started rewatching. Its so superior to anything I have watched recently on TV. I had forgotten just how good it was! Anyone else?

A huge fan when younger started to rewatch can't believe how long the episodes are 😂 took me 3 sitting to watch first one.
So far it is as good as I remember , now I'm wondering if I watched it to the end before so I'll keep watching

ThroughTheRedDoor · 14/03/2026 00:06

Also an avid fan back in rhe day.

Trying to watch everything else so I iam free to watch ER. There's a lot of episodes and a lot of viewing hours to commit to!

Glad I saw this post because one of my.cobcerns is that it wont be as good as i remember. Sounds like thats not true!

Nofeckingway · 14/03/2026 00:10

I remember being blown away by the opening episode when the nurse had overdosed and was being treated by colleagues. Don't think I can watch it all again but still fondly think of George Clooney and Dr. Luka .

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 14/03/2026 00:29

I just can't believe how good it is, compared to grays and all the other stuff I watch these days. Truly classic

Yes! It's just so good. Had forgotten the intensity between Carol and Ross! The madness. Carter's moments ... Benson's arrogance getting a knocking ... just brilliant. Maybe even better on a second watch!

I started watching the first seaon last year, but got off track and forgot about it. Thanks for the nudge.

Papercompany · 17/03/2026 08:59

I adored this year's ago and rewatched it many times over the years. I love it so much that even the theme music brings a little tear to my eye!

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 17/03/2026 21:13

I had forgotten the little moments of humour they throw in, in between the heartwrenching stuff!

It was and still is absolutely brilliannt

the scene where Carter gets stabbed and sees Lucy on the floor is the most gut wrenching scene in tv, ever, IMO

Rewatching I’m realising that Mark Green was quite selfish. He put his job before his wife and child time and time again. He refused to move two hours up the road and work in different hospital when his long suffering wife had an amazing opportunity. IF his wife had been on Mumsnet she would have been told to Ltb

I just watched the episode where she tells him she’s leaving him - and yes, completely agree with you. He’s incredibly selfish.

Gloriia · 18/03/2026 09:20

Watched this again when it was streaming on Channel 4 then it abruptly stopped with no warning so I'm pleased I can finish it on Netflix.

The early series with Carter, Benton, Weaver, Romano, Corday and Green all so totally superior to the later ones with wet Neela, boring Abby, equally boring Gates and Sam. Though Morris saved the day in those very dull eps.

I wonder if they have different writers in the later series?

evilharpy · 18/03/2026 10:03

I didn't watch it first time around so I'm now watching it for the very first time and am completely hooked. It is brilliant. I would only have been 13 or 14 when it started so I think I appreciate it more now than I would have in the 90s.

Agree that Greene is very selfish and his wife made the right decision. And everyone was in love with Dr Ross back in the day but for me the real eye candy is Benton, even if he's a bit of a dick.

IAmKerplunk · 20/03/2026 13:41

I have just started this! Never watched it before - I was 18 when it came out and it totally passed me by. On ep 2 and enjoying it so far.

Favourite bit so far:

Cab driver: I’ve got a woman pregnant in the back of my cab
Doctor: Why did you do that? 😂

Not liking George a looney with dark hair though

Bobbybobbins · 20/03/2026 13:51

I love love love ER. Agree that Green in retrospect is a twat. Like Benton more watching it is an adult and Kerry Weaver trying to keep everyone in line!!

IAmKerplunk · 20/03/2026 13:55

Just realised Greene is Goose 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

WorriedRelative · 20/03/2026 14:43

I am loving it, I watched it first time round but not every episode. Really appreciating it now, and so much eye candy! I hadn't appreciated Benton back in the day, the hype was all about Ross and Carter.

I don't think Greene was entirely in the wrong, had he moved hospital he couldn't have got a chief resident role. He would have been a resident like Ross or Lewis, reporting to the chief resident, so would have lost the management responsibility, the extra pay and the career progression.

Love ER! As a member that grew up in the Chicago suburbs, I was actually at the “real” Cook County Hospital doing medical training during the later years of the series. They didn’t film at the hospital, it was a set. But many of the outside shots were at the real location, so did see the film crews from time to time!

Agree
The episode .. love labour lost..
Highlighted his arrogance

GinaandGin · 20/03/2026 21:54

It's one or my fave shows (special interests)
I loved the scenes when Romano showed his human side
I HATED Gates and Taggart
Loved the benton / reece moments
And we have all worked with a kerry weaver...

No. Way…..! You are so right!!! Nice

Pyjamatimenow · 20/03/2026 22:06

I’m watching too. I do not like Mark Green. Doug seems a bit more genuine. The men generally aren’t coming off well. Also not keen on a lot of the women throwing themselves at the men when they’re clearly egotistical. Dd is watching with me and likes Carter.
