Was an avid ER fan 20+ yes ago. See its now on netflux, started rewatching. Its so superior to anything I have watched recently on TV. I had forgotten just how good it was! Anyone else?

There is over 300 episodes over an hour each and I’ve seen them 3 times! It’s epic glad Netflix has it was gutted when it went from channel 4. Apparently Pittsburgh is as good but you can’t get it in uk yet.

OnTheBoardwalk · 02/04/2026 21:55

@lovemetomybones ’Apparently Pittsburgh is as good but you can’t get it in uk yet’

do you mean the Pitt? I've just started getting it free on my uk sky subscription on HBO max and you can get it standalone from £5 a month

def worth getting even for a short time for the Pitt

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 03/04/2026 00:25

Yeah, we just started getting HBO max as part of our BT package. Took me a bit to find it, but got it now (its through/ linked to NOW tv)

I've really put the effort into watching as there was loads I missed first time round and didn't get very far when it was on More4 last time. I'm already on season 10 and agree I have appreciated Benton so much more this time around. I also think his relationship with Carter was amazing and Carter himself is great and so funny in the first few seasons. I have to say he has become pretty depressing at this point though and I feel the writers lost their way with him. I like Neela, Abbie and Sam this time around. I think Hathaway was pretty awful really - quite up herself and horrible to Jeanie and Cynthia, for example. I have definitely worked with people like her though so I think she is a good character and well played too. Doug was incredibly selfish but he was never shown as anything else so no need to hate him!

RancidRuby · 03/04/2026 13:01

I didn’t like Carol on this rewatch either. So self righteous, and a bit mean girl at
times.

RancidRuby · 03/04/2026 13:04

And I was just thinking about when she was supposed to be getting married to Tag and they had a heart to heart just before the ceremony where she admitted that she loved him but wasn’t in love with him. So he, understandably, called the wedding off and then she made out like she was the poor jilted bride to be!

I really liked that episode, the party at the end with all of them enjoying the food was brilliant!

I’ve made it to season 6 and the lovely Luca 😋

I’m watching The Pitt now. Found it a bit slow to start but then hooks you in.

i know realistic would be boring TV but the amount of drama in one shift!

can’t get past Shawn Hatosy’s ER character though, keep expecting him to regress to a 5 year old in between Dr Robby breaking down in the corridor…

Pyjamatimenow · 08/04/2026 20:03

I’ve been totally binging as had a few long car journeys. I’m on series 8. Alex Kingston is just phenomenal. I’m so rooting for her

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/04/2026 10:00

I’ve just watched ep 14 season 6 😢 I’m wrung out now, poor Lucy.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/04/2026 10:02

I’ve also decided I love Carrie, out of all of them she’s the Dr I would want working on me.

ToadRage · 11/04/2026 10:07

It's great. My Mum watched ER religiously from day 1. I wasn't old enough in the beginning but I started watching it with her when i was so its nice to go back and she things i hadn't seen before. I love The dynamic between Carol and Doug. Mark is my favourite doctor.

Carol can be so mean especially to newer staff, and she's so messy in her personal life. Still find her an interesting character though. I never understood what she saw in Doug, he's that toxic guy you have incredible sexual chemistry with but in the end, you grow up and realise he isn't the guy you need. Julianna and George were great to watch together though.

I loved her close friendship with Mark in later seasons as well, them jogging together and having their little heart to hearts! Also, him being her birth coach when she has the twins without Doug is so sweet. Carol along with Doug is such a gossip as well lol, they love interfering in everyone's personal lives and I am living for it. If only Mark had confided in her earlier about his crush on Susan as she was totally pushing him to admit his feelings (I'm always thinking about what they might have done with Mark and Susan had the actress not broken her contract last minute).

socialsbester · 11/04/2026 12:28

I started watching again last night but then quickly got irritated by the amount of time the various doctors reassured the patient they would be ‘absolutely fine’ when in reality, that’s pretty bad practice. It was the first episode with the factory accident - man comes in with his hand hanging off and Dr Peter says ‘we’ll save your hand. It’ll be fine’. That’s not a promise any reasonable dr could make!

And then later Dr Susan tells a bloke (just by looking at the X-ray of a shadow on his lung) that he has 6 months to live.

Admittedly I’m over thinking (it’s only a TV programme) but I got unreasonably irked. 😀😀

Binglebong · 11/04/2026 12:44

Did anyone hate when Carter went off, fell in love and decided to endow the hospital? I found it such an annoying storyline and as it generally wasn't good around that period, I lost interest and stopped watching. I hope it went back to good after and I might give it another try.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/04/2026 12:44

I was thinking about this (while I was cleaning the bathroom 🙈😂) and I like that most of the characters are a mix of some good and some not so good characteristics which in reality is what most people are like.

Even Carter can be a PITA at times, he was a crap mentor to Lucy, always inpatient and never listened to her. But Carter is also a caring and thoughtful Dr who wants to do his best for patients.

Carol is a good, hardworking nurse but she could be rude to junior staff and yy she is a terrible gossip!

Even Romano could be very sweet and sensitive (and funny) but also brash and childish.

It makes the characters very relatable.

Might have a break in housework and watch another episode 🙈😂

Pyjamatimenow · 11/04/2026 13:12

Has anyone noticed all the ‘Cure Autism now’ posters on the wall? I was taken aback by those

Yes the episode where she judged the nun for being pregnant

pinotnow · 11/04/2026 15:00

The thing with Doug and Carol was that it was made very clear that Doug did a lot of work on himself to be less of a dick and be good enough for Carol/any committed relationship. I especially like the episode before they are together when they are in a cupboard (forget why -locked in or something?!) and he is telling her all about his therapy and she falls asleep! I think it's a good way of showing how the dynamics of their relationship has changed for the better. It's a good example of a slow-burning storyline which they were really good at. Once they are together again he fucks up by planning a wedding behind her back when it wasn't what she wanted but after that he's respectful to her and their relationship is pretty equal. Of course he goes back to his irresponsible 'maverick' ways for his final storyline but obviously they needed to find a way to write him out and clearly didn't want it to involve cheating on Carol or him dying and needed to come up with something that would force him to leave Carol behind. Leaving that aside, he does develop as a character.

Carter does too, but not in a good way imo. He stayed the longest of all the original main characters and I feel they ran out of things for him to do and he became quite annoying and smug. The comedy the actor was so good at wasn't possible for him as an experienced doctor and it wasn't replaced with anything much, unfortunately.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/04/2026 15:54

There are so many amazing curly girls on ER, Carol, Elizabeth and Cleo’s hair are all beautiful, I have serious hair envy and am wondering what their routine is 🙈😂

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/04/2026 15:58

It doesn’t ring true that Doug wouldn’t have come back when Carol was pregnant, he had grown a lot in the previous episodes and was completely besotted with her.

Yeah I hated the carter/kem storyline. It just seemed so …nothing. He deserved a happy ending and got some sort of apathetic relationship.

he should have got to travel the world with medicin’s sans frontiers and lived with a succession of beautiful women, or settled down and had loads of kids.

i also hated the end episodes when Doug and carol were organising the transplant surgery and they had no one in common- they’d have asked after carter, and both carol and neela knew Luka..it was like cook county wasn’t a big part of their lives.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 11/04/2026 17:50

I just watched the episode where they realised it was Gant who had jumped under the train 😭
Im surprised how many on here see Mark ss arrogant when Benton is so much worse! The way he treated Gant was awful

I know the answer to them not reuniting earlier was that they wanted to keep Carol in the show/ Julianna didn’t want to leave, but in real life she would definitely have moved with him sooner.

Currently watching his final couple of episodes. Trying not to get too attached to Lucy 😭

Pasta4Dinner · 11/04/2026 18:26

I’m on season 12 and I start to struggle around now with watching it.
I think Carters addiction came and went too fast, he literally injected himself and went off to rehab. Him and Cem bores the hell out of me. He definitely deserved a happier ending.
I also find the Luca/Sam and then straight back to
Abby all a bit soap operish. Soon every single man is going to be obsessed with Neela.
i think it also becomes more about the staff and less the stories about the people who come in.
