I couldn’t find a thread, so I thought I’d start one.

Tonight was episode 2/4 and it’s presented by Tim Spector.

My first impression is that I really miss Michael Moseley.

They appear to have found a couple in their mid 60’s that live on pies and wine. They are trying to get them to reduce UPF but that appears to be the least of their issues really.

Tjere was an interesting point about chopping certain vegetables and leaving them 15 minutes to allow them to release some chemical that improves heart health. I’ll be looking into that.

I didn't think that looked like a year's worth of coke but you couldn't really see it. They didn't show it properly.

I feel sorry for him really. I think it must be easy to eat shit food when it's so important to have to avoid shit food. You must think 'What's the point?'

That was a very handy tip that I didn't know about putting cooked pasta or rice in the fridge and it instantly becomes more healthy 👌

LemograssLollipop · 27/01/2026 20:34

Very interesting about resistant starch, not heard of that before.

I've been saying for awhile that fizzy drinks are the work of the devil 😈 My late df who had type 2 diabetes from around the age of 50, used to drink a lot of fizzy drinks too.

He sounds like he is addicted to the cola. I'm not surprised, as I've heard these drinks contain addictive ingredients!

What does he have behind his ears? Are they hearing aids?

Yes. They look similar to mine

Same. And. Bread

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 20:40

Resistant starch was something Michael Moseley talked about a lot before, I think.

They’ve found such an extreme family that it makes it hard to relate to them. Upf isn’t their issue it’s their whole diet. It’s just awful. The gp was obviously horrified by his sugars and peripheral neuropathy. His diabetic team must be watching this and weeping.

I knew you could freeze bread, but I thought that was just to make it last longer!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2026 20:46

Coke to sparking water

should have allowed fruit /squash

SwedishEdith · 27/01/2026 20:54

She's way politer and deferential to her fussy husband than I would be.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2026 20:56

Wonder if he was sneaking stuff in

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2026 20:56

Oh. He was.

shill drinking coke

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2026 20:57

Did they say how much weight he lost or just that they hoped he would lose more

TheatreTheatre · 27/01/2026 21:02

I think he didn’t lose weight.

But his heart health improved.

He seemed very…closed in about it all . Barriers. He said he found change hard. That fizzy drinks had been a childhood thing. I don’t know, I think he needs MH support to help in order to address the root of his unhealthy eating.

I hope he is OK.

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 21:07

Tbf the Diet Coke is probably the least of their issues. I’m wondering if they choose these families to show a difference in the shortest time period. Two weeks is very quick.

It really shows how hard it is to manage diet and food addiction. He’s lost toes and is told he will die years and years before his time and he still can’t do it. Shows it’s not the simple eat less and move more, I’m sure he doesn’t want to be like this. Perhaps his diabetes team can prescribe Mounjaro and he can make the changes.

TheatreTheatre · 27/01/2026 21:09

True.

The other families have been somewhat miraculous in their adoption of new habits and turnaround.

He is honest about the difficulties of change.

Stopbringingmicehome · 27/01/2026 21:10

Phil grimacing at some food safe additives on crisps and the use of a food processor in the lab and smiling at vegetables is hilarious.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2026 21:13

They usually do 6w

He will def get it

an maybe it will curb his desire for coke the way he dulls alcohol for some

TheatreTheatre · 27/01/2026 21:22

160 gallons of diet cola..

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 21:25

To be fair when I drank Diet Coke I drank 8 cans plus a day. Could have filled swimming pools with it.

I really enjoyed tonight's show. Guy with T2D drinking a litre of diet cola four times a day. I have seriously reduced my consumption of UHP foods since I started watching. I miss Michael Mosley as well.

SwedishEdith · 27/01/2026 21:29

He had type 1 diabetes. My understanding, from someone I know with type 1, is that Mounjaro and Ozempic aren't approved for that.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 27/01/2026 21:33

This sounds like my kind of programme! I'll have to catch up.

I was never a fan of Michael Moseley and I don't know much about this Tim guy, so we'll see ...

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 21:35

Ah yes, good point. He does need some dietician support for the sugars though.
