It's snowy, chilly, January (2026.) CORONATION STREET THREAD. **No spoilers please.**

SabreIsMyFave · 09/01/2026 22:12

The last thread filled up quickly! (2 weeks!) Shows Coronation Street is gaining popularity again. Smile (It has improved quite a bit lately!)

R.I.P. Billy Mayhew. Flowers

Todd continues to be manipulated by Theo, Summer has done some stellar sobbing (that's brought me to tears!) and it seems there's no-one to help poor Todd.

Not much has been seen of The Driscolls for a while. after the tragedy around Corriedale, and Billy the vicar dying. (I'm sure they're about somewhere!)

Lisa (Swain) is being manipulated by Undead Becky now, (from prison) and she's threatening to 'take her down with her' if she doesn't have her back! Not sure Carla wants Lisa back anyway after Lisa slept with Becky!

Poor Debbie is all over the place, trying desperately to defend evil Carl who has stolen from her, cheated on Abi, and caused all kinds of destruction with a car, (twice - and both times he's got away with it!)

Shona and David's new baby is in hospital for a while after being born prematurely, and Shona's sister has appeared suddenly! I guess we'll learn more about her, and why she and Shona have not seen each other for some years.

Sorry if I've left anything out. I'm sure we'll all catch up soon. Smile

I love Bernie. Mal was so ready to take advantage after a 30 year marriage. He is a dog.

Gingercar · 29/01/2026 22:39

Is it wrong that I don’t care what happened in that episode? Pure boredom. Bernie pretending to be a raver. Again.

JohnBullshit · 29/01/2026 22:45

I feel as if I've had a small dose of whatever they picked up up from the Dog and Gun. We still haven't got to the nub of 'who the fuck is Alice', is that right?
I'm going to try shaking the confusion out of my head like a wet spaniel now.

SabreIsMyFave · 29/01/2026 22:51

I felt a bit like that @Gingercar I don't dislike Bernie, but the tedious behaving like she's a '20-something' at a rave in 1993 act is a bit annoying. She's nearly 60, and reverting back to this yoof in her early-mid 20s at a rave (as she has done several times) is a bit tedious.

I am really liking the focus of the half hour episodes

It was not as bad as the day time rave in the street after Paul's funeral

SabreIsMyFave · 29/01/2026 23:04

Yeah that was weird @zanahoria Paul wasn't even born til around 1990, so he wouldn't have gone to raves. By the time he was 18-20, it would have been 2010. Raves weren't a thing then. They were in the 1990s.

As if sensible Ryan wouldn’t have informed Dev that Bernie was off her head ! And yes Alice Alice who the fuck is Alice ??

Empress13 · 29/01/2026 23:09

SabreIsMyFave · 29/01/2026 22:17

Not sure what to make of that episode either! It was very Bernie centric. But how strange that she ended up in a hotel with the guy who decked Roy! Confused

And Daniel saw her, and despite her saying 'nothing happened' half a dozen times, he doesn't believe her.

And then she's unconcious in the public toilets at the end?

Why? Was it the tablet she took?

Weird episode.

Who’s Daniel lol

Empress13 · 29/01/2026 23:11

Me again ….. how the hell do they make any money in the Rovers every drink is on the house! Wish they’d run a pub in my neck of the woods!

sorryIdidntmeanto · 29/01/2026 23:20

Raves were definitely a thing in the late 2000s.

stolenpromises · 29/01/2026 20:39

Oh. Was that Dr Harper sleeping in the room with Bernie?

It wasn’t, but I’m still wondering how he fits into things, because he clearly wasn’t just in it to be the surgeon. Is he connected to Jodie somehow?

On a completely unrelated topic, and it might have been said before - why is it that Ryan’s scars look completely different from episode to episode? Sometimes they’re barely noticeable. Then they reappear and are suddenly very prominent again.

AnnieLummox · 30/01/2026 00:40

Oh, okay - so scratch my Dr Harper comment:

I thought it was a brilliant episode and some superb acting. Bernie is coming across as a well rounded character and that is rare in modern soaps.

I think Jane Hazelgrove {Bernie) is a really good actor, despite the bizarre storylines. I completely get how Billy's death has brought back her grief for Paul. Everyone's focus has been on Summer, but Bernie is suffering with the added guilt of feeling she wasn't good mum.

I am also getting bored now with how often they keep giving drinks 'on the house.' 🙄

I have been in probably 50 pubs in my lifetimes, multiple 100s of pub visits, and have never EVER been given a free drink by the landlord.

Yes @Freysimo I actually think Jane is really good, and I do sort of like the character most of the time. I do think she and Dev are mismatched, but I wouldn't want her to leave the show. Gemma however...... 🙄

SabreIsMyFave · 30/01/2026 07:56

I would also like to see the back of bloody Jodie. (Shona's sister.) Hugely unlikeable character. Brings nothing to the show. Pointless character. And as for her getting off with Carl. FFS! 🙄

OP posts:
Shellingbynight · 30/01/2026 08:17

I agree Jane Hazelgrove is very good. She just seems so oddly matched with Dev, it doesn't work but they don't seem willing to accept defeat on that.

And although Carl is loathsome, the actor is good and he's convincing. I think it would have worked a lot better though if they hadn't thrown so much at this storyline, it's absolutely overloaded with plot. Making him Debbie's son is the last straw.

I think the Jodie actress is good too although her storyline will probably be absolutely terrible.

I have nothing good to say about Gemma!

AmusedMaker · 30/01/2026 08:21

I know I’m on my own here, but I can’t stand Bernie.
I don’t think she’s a particularly good actress either.
Soap standard yes, but that’s about it.

SabreIsMyFave · 30/01/2026 08:24

I didn't like Bernie much for quite a while @AmusedMaker I took along time to warm to her!

I am still mixed about her but that ambivalence is a good thing in a character.

She is a stark contrast to many of the other one dimensional characters.

Shellingbynight · 30/01/2026 08:32

I agree Bernie is not my favourite character by any means, but I have warmed to her since Paul died, and as @zanahoria says at least she does have a complex character.

zanahoria · 30/01/2026 08:35

I just hope they do not go the same route as they have done with Abi, where she messes up but everyone else has to feel sorry her.

She is stalking Carl with self righteous fury at the moment but she has literally done worse

AmusedMaker · 30/01/2026 08:40

Maybe I just can’t relate to her very much ( was never into the whole druggy rave scene )
I like that she admits her failings as a parent though and is desperate to make up for that.
looking forward to tonight’s episode.
