The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

Happily joining the thread!

What was Teddy doing when he was sat with loads of black and white mug shots of young people? I’m sure one photo was of the young waiter who was struggling to open the champagne bottle and Jonathan Pine (as Alex) took it and did it himself?

Raisondeetre · 04/01/2026 08:24

Thelittlegreyone · 03/01/2026 21:23

How did Pine manage to stay sufficiently sober at the end??

It’s a nonsense that he would be drinking heavily and taking cocaine yet still able to govern a cover story like that. It would wreck his health and surely lead to addiction issues anyway?

MayIDestroyYou · 04/01/2026 09:22

Regarding the black and white photos - my first thought was that perhaps there may be a child trafficking story to be revealed. But it could just be that they’re obliged to work in drugs or gun running. That poor boy waiter certainly didn’t look terribly happy with his life.

Thelittlegreyone · 04/01/2026 09:27

I think they're hinting that the baddie's a child sex offender. Whatshername is just a beard.

Thelittlegreyone · 04/01/2026 09:29

With the party at first I was telling myself he must have Vaseline up his nose, then with the drink that he must have taken an antedote. By the time he was on to the spiked drinks I thought, "oh no, he just has the constitution of a superhero".

MayIDestroyYou · 04/01/2026 09:35

It seemed very well organised to show Pine in a state of recklessness and vulnerability and open to sharing confidences with Teddy. I imagine spooks workshop these types of scenarios at spook school? And have ways and means to counter any potential damage to mind and body.

Also the ‘confession’ ostensibly puts him under Teddy’s power. So rather than asking to become involved in Teddy’s nefarious activities, Pine will be ‘blackmailed’ into getting involved.

It’s actually quite interesting - in each series Pine’s entry into the villains world is predicated on the psychology of the villain. In S1 he played on Roper’s gratitude; in S2 on Teddy’s ‘rescue’ persona.

aliceinawonderland · 04/01/2026 11:52

Like some PPs, I am not convinced that Roper is dead either. Why were viewers only given an oblique view of a heavily bearded face? Why was Pine not allowed in?

Im also not convinced Rex is dead either. Why were we not shown the body? Also he’s a great actor ( in fact he would have made a good villain), and it seems too early to despatch him.

This makes sense and I’m wondering if Sandy, Roper’s money man, from series 1, will resurface too.
Im also hoping for more Angela after Rex casually said she was inactive and living overseas.

I’ve only seen episode 1 of s2 but I think Angela will reappear.

I’m not sure about Sandy. I like his sometimes-estranged wife, though, and hope she comes back,

BillStickersIsInnocent · 04/01/2026 18:54

Alistair Petrie is in the cast this series (plays Sandy).

Thelittlegreyone · 04/01/2026 19:00

I like Sandy’s wife too. And good point about Roper. If they wanted us to know he was dead, why make it just Angela able to see the body? 🤔

I imagine spooks workshop these types of scenarios at spook school?

But he was never a spook and presumably hasn’t had any spy training? I thought on the GNS Hiddlestone (sp?) said he ran a private company that monitored hotel cctv at night. Looks like I understood that wrongly.

Fizbosshoes · 04/01/2026 19:17

Ive had to skip past a few posts as I've only seen episode 1.
There has been a radio trailer and the sign off was TH saying "oh I cant wait...." which was unbelievably attractive! (More so than actually looking at him! 🤣)

Agree about the hair and also that Sally spoke to him in the Casino (How did they not hear that?) ...and how did they manage to record/get such good photos in the park/cafe without being obvious?

We watched with subtitles, and also pause to ask questions on what's going on which DH hates.....even though he never offers to fill us in on bits we are trying to piece together

Had to suspend belief that Jonathon Pine/whoever he was that day went into the school to meet Danny and delivered the bombshell that his Dad was dead. Would not the school have known/been informed? Or his mother?

So sorry can someone help us with

...Was Jed, Danny's mother? Or was he RR child by a previous relationship?
...what happened to Rex (suicide or murder?) He left all the things for Pine to find....which could infer planned suicide.....but feel like others were involved, and murder was also mentioned....?

Thelittlegreyone · 04/01/2026 19:21

Danny had a different off-screen mother. Absolutely bizarre safeguarding failure by the school and decision-making by Pine.

MayIDestroyYou · 04/01/2026 19:26

No, Jed wasn’t Danny’s mother. She was a ‘professional girlfriend’ - essentially a longish term paid escort. With a staggering, seemingly unlimited clothing budget and apparently generous payment which she sent home to her mother to keep her own child.

I simply cannot recall whether we ever glimpsed Danny’s mother!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/01/2026 19:26

I’ve just realised episode 3 won’t be available till next Sunday, I don’t understand why the BBC put two episodes on iPlayer last week if they were only putting episode 2 on live TV tonight. That’s annoying.

Not enjoying it so much so far, if feels like a poor re-hash of series 1, but without the best bits. Hoping it picks up.

Dropping both episodes on iPlayer on 1st Jan has just been confusing! I was expecting episode 2 to be on TV the day after or something.

Anyway, now it's been shown, there shouldn't be any spoilers, and hopefully episode 3 will only be on iPlayer next Sunday.

It does feel like a poor rehash of the first series. There just isn't the charisma.

I also question Pine's ability to do all this spy stuff, not just because he hasn't been trained, but he's been doing the nightshift for many years where he just watches surveillance footage (it seems).

What kind of nonsense was it to start jumping about the place, and who on earth would go along with it?

I was thinking about this today, and concluded that the two new antagonists are too young to really be having anything to do with Pine, other than take advantage of some middle aged bloke who thinks he's "got it". I'm not talking about the actors' ages, but how they're presented in this, and how they come across.

In series 1, Pine blended in with Roper and his gang a lot better. Here he just stands out.

I'll probably see this through to the end, unless it gets any worse, but I won't be coming back for the third series.

I think that when they viewed Roper’s body someone said something like ‘he will remain a missing person’ -presumably to imply they’d had him murdered? This could explain why the school haven’t told Danny. In which case, why Pine was telling Danny he was dead? Unless there’s a reason behind that we don’t yet know, I suppose.

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2026 22:39

Lordy, this programme misses the diction and presence of Laurie. And a plot. And excitement.

I think Pine told Danny his dad was dead because he thought it was cruel that he had not been told.

PrincessScarlett · 04/01/2026 22:50

I'm another wondering how on earth Pine was still alive after all that booze and drugs. He obviously is playing Matthew who is a drinker and drug taker but Pine himself is fairly clean so surely wouldn't have the tolerance for that excess. Plus he may have factored in being in control of what HE was taking but he was unaware Teddy was also adding drugs to the booze.

Agree that Teddy did it deliberately to blackmail Matthew into lending him the money.

Thought it was a bit naff that Teddy turns out to be Roper's son.

Nice to see a little bit of scenery like in season 1 but still lacking the glamour of season 1.

Love Sally. Think she's a great addition to the cast.

aliceinawonderland · 04/01/2026 23:01

Yes sally is fantastic and I think it’s a shame waleed was killed as he would have been an interesting character too.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/01/2026 23:22

I think this will pick up and I also think we'll be seeing Angela again. At the end it will be revealed that Roper is still alive, thus setting the scene for S3..

I think Pine told Danny his dad was dead because he thought it was cruel that he had not been told.

Which would probably mean he believed Angela when she told him Roper was dead, although we are not completely sure.

I thought that.

I thought TH ‘s reply to Graham Norton, when asked whether Roper was really dead, was … interesting.
