The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

Looking forward to this, I wonder if all episodes will drop in the morning? I hope so.

I'm sure they won't. In the gazillion things I've read about the new series, I think it's something like 1st and 2nd then weekly? Or something similar.

I'd be very happy to be wrong, and if I am then no one will be seeing me tomorrow!!! 😂😂😂

Didn’t watch series one when it was aired originally - but just watched all six episodes over the past two days, really enjoyed it and looking forward to watching later this evening. Hugh Laurie is brilliantly unpleasant as Richard Roper.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 01/01/2026 16:37

Checking in! I'll be watching tonight.

Thelittlegreyone · 01/01/2026 18:58

S2E1 For me, it suffered from the lack of interesting, foreign locations. Will avoid saying more until more people have seen it.

PrincessScarlett · 01/01/2026 23:07

I enjoyed it tonight. Although I feel Teddy the new villain is somewhat lacking compared to the superb Hugh Laurie as Roper in season 1.

I do feel though that Jonathan Pine leaves a trail of dead bodies behind him. His poor colleagues who were simply admin and not used to dealing with villains with guns and explosives.

QuenchedSquirrel · 01/01/2026 23:14

I thought it started really well and loved that they IDd Roper ao we knew he was really dead. I think if they hadn't have done that the uncertainty would have overshadowed the series. So, good move.

Overall, I found it quite busy. Lots of different scenes, lots of different people. The pace feels quite fast, lots happened. I think it's good but not Le Carre good.

And Teddy Dos Santos is absolutely no RR, he doesn't have the presence. Maybe he'll grow on me.

The team completely going off piste and going on their own investigation felt unrealistic considering they were a night surveillance unit.

Sally spoke to Jonathan whilst she was sat at the poker table, that would surely have been noticed!

I agree about him dragging them along with him. He's their boss but they're office people not field operatives.

Hugh Laurie just had a lot more presence.

I really enjoyed that. Lots more to come.

PrincessScarlett · 01/01/2026 23:37

Did make me laugh though that Johnathan has called his cat Corky 😂

MayIDestroyYou · 01/01/2026 23:44

Did anyone proceed to Episode 2?

Yes, I watched a bit but not posting about it so people who are watching it on TV aren't put off coming to the thread because of possible spoilers.

I'm TV only - so would appreciate if the thread sticks to TV pace!! Did enjoyi it - thouugh not happy that everyone looks older (and thinner) - I do not like being reminded how time matches on!!!!

It's the same actor playing Danny isn't it?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 02/01/2026 05:19

i found it too soporific,
i had had a lack of sleep the night before.
will have a rewatch

BillStickersIsInnocent · 02/01/2026 07:14

Is RR actually dead though? The camera shots were brief and interesting angles and I wondered why they didn’t just show him more clearly to properly end things.

HollyhockDays · 02/01/2026 07:24

I thought it was a teeny bit slow but they obviously needed to do a lot of set up.

Was that the only time he has seen Danny in the intervening years? Don’t think much of the schools safe guarding!!

I think Roper will be alive. I assume the second guy who he found the photos of is Roper’s son?

Thelittlegreyone · 02/01/2026 07:57

Huh? I think they did right showing us unequivocally that Roper is dead. Which photos do you mean? Do you think Roper had more than one son?

BillStickersIsInnocent · 02/01/2026 08:19

But if they wanted unequivocal both Jonathan and Angela would have identified the body so there is no chance of falsifying and we as viewers would have a clear view of his face.

PrincessScarlett · 02/01/2026 08:21

Angela felt for a pulse on Roper's body and they talked about burying him in an unmarked grave so he's definitely dead.

@AuntyAngela yes it's the same actor playing Danny (Noah Jupe) so a nice touch. Wonder if he'll have any part to play.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2026 08:22

I found it slow and quite confusing.

Hugh Laurie's voice was phenomenal (as was Corky's). I am struggling to pick up a lot of this baddy's dialogue - partly that's the accented English.

I thought it lacked some exposition.

I thought as viewers it was pretty clear that it was Roper. There was lots of ambiguous shots of the body but at the end of the identification I definitely identified Hugh Laurie's face albeit with a lot of hair.
