With only five posts left on the old thread, thought I'd start this so we can link between the two.

This thread carries on from the first:

Camel milk is the most nutritious in the world. Will they say that?

Haggisfish3 · 31/05/2025 21:11

Oh I really like both brothers! The older one has shown such insight and thoughtfulness. And the younger one is such fun. And they are both very open minded and accepting of each other.

Yes, I liked the two doctors. I hope it worked out for them getting a baby.

I follow them on Instagram, sadly they haven't had a baby or adopted yet

I don’t know why only one couple is disqualified during the whole race. It makes no sense.
Either keep everyone in or make it so that the losing team drops out at every stage.

I think it's to get everyone into the idea that it's a race, and not a free holiday.
They don't need to hold further eliminations as there's usually another team forced to stop before the end due to running out of funds.

I wonder if the young couple will run out of money before the end this year, their budget is a fair bit lower than everyone else's already.

There was a father and daughter pair in that one. She started off a bit of a pampered princess but matured massively over the course of the series which was good to see (without anyone banging on about it).

Yes it was much more organic and their stories woven into their travels

I wish we had more details on what the budget is being spent on. I don’t think we’ve seen anything like accommodation costs this time.

That's a good point. They usually break down the spending more: this time is just tickets, not accommodation and food.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 31/05/2025 22:54

I really like Caroline and Tom now. I thought he was a mollycoddled over privileged tit, but I think he’s growing as a person

Sioned gets right on my nerves. I hope Fin dumps her

I think Melvyn's the older one.

RaraRachael · 31/05/2025 23:01

We've rarely seen where they've stayed apart from the checkpoint hotels and homestays. I seem to remember previous contestants turning up late at night and struggling to find accommodation and have to budget for it etc

That plays a large part in the Canada one, as well as the struggles of finding transport. I’d love to see the forum discussions about earlier seasons, but am failing dismally at finding them. Anyone more Mumsnet tecchy than me?

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/06/2025 09:05

I’ve just caught up with the show and the thread.

I really like the brothers, I was wondering when someone would get deli belly, that would be my worst nightmare travelling on buses etc.

The teenagers are doing well, they’re v young and it’s a lot for them to manage. My dd is a similar age and I can’t imagine her doing something like this.

The mum and son are slowly growing on me however they’re clearly from a v privileged background and I’m not sure they’re really aware of that privilege. Caroline trying to create sympathy for loosing confidence when she was able to be a stay at home mum (when her kid was in boarding school 🤯) doesn’t work for me. Money is why she could stay at home 🤷‍♀️

Anyway they are both growing as people which is nice to see.

Schoodle · 01/06/2025 10:26

@Abracadabra12345 here you go (I've been rewatching them and wanted to find old threads too!)

Series 1
Series 2
Series 3
Series 4

FleurDeFleur · 01/06/2025 10:51

Thanks, @Schoodle

blinkbonny · 01/06/2025 12:42

Agree with many others’ opinions on the travellers. I would have liked to see more of Gaz & Yin, enjoy the brothers’ authenticity, think the teenagers are very game and sweet (if rather naive, esp S), found C&T irritating, and am a bit meh on the sisters. Also find the one-note song of the sisters’ back story especially being constantly repeated quite dull. I’m not looking for trauma but if you can’t say anything new, why not spend the air time on their travels rather than navel-gazing conversation? Do they think our memories are that short?

I think what irritates me about C&T is that Caroline always seems to be “acting”. Maybe it’s just her posh accent Grin but she rings false to me a lot of the time. I think she’s very competitive and determined, though. She really wants to win. I don’t fully buy her “back story” but I have warmed to Tom a lot.

Regarding the language/upbringing question re Yin: my father was an immigrant and although he wanted his children to speak his language, he was more concerned that we spoke perfect English so he neglected emphasis on his mother tongue. I wish he hadn’t - I can speak it a bit now but by no means fluent - but I think the appreciation of dual language skills just wasn’t the same when I was a child. Odd, really - why wouldn’t it be an advantage?

Sadcafe · 01/06/2025 13:19

I’m really enjoying this series , like others I’d really like the brothers to win but also warming more and more to Tom and his mum, just cannot get away with the sisters, I don’t know why , think the two teens , given their ages, have been great

Abracadabra12345 · 01/06/2025 13:20

Thank you SOO much! I’m desperate to read the chats, even if I can’t join in

Abracadabra12345 · 01/06/2025 13:21

That was aimed at @Schoodle

Abracadabra12345 · 01/06/2025 13:23

@blinkbonnyAgree with all you’ve said

elastamum · 01/06/2025 13:39

Caroline ( 'I'm just a housewife') came second in this year's British eventing BE80 final yesterday. She has an eventing competition record that goes back 20 years and has clearly spent a huge amount of time riding her horses, even when she had young children. She is a very accomplished competitor.

Growlling · 01/06/2025 14:03

Caroline Bridge has a strong background in horsemanship, having trained horses to grand prix level in dressage and previously helped with top-level eventers. Not bad for a housewife. Who is she kidding?

That's because it's complete bollocks.

@TwentyKittenswhat’s bollocks? Her back story?

INeverSeeYou · 01/06/2025 14:58

I'm surprised one brother doesn't have a family, he comes across as gregarious.

How long have these threads been going on and I missed them !

I’m team mother and son
but the brothers would be my second favourites

Mother and son have the most money left atm and I’m concerned the young couple from Wales are going to run out of finances before the end. Given their average % spend ( yes I’ve been doing the maths 🫤) for each stage.

Now just going back to read all of your thoughts
