Did anyone else watch this tonight? I thought it was great! The contestants are warm, genuine and with normal ego levels. There's no pouting, posing, naked bodies.... just ordinary people racing to Singapore with little money and no internet. I'm loving the glimpses of people helping them along the way.

Yes!
I was a wee bit disappointed to see the couple who ended up leaving play some dirty tactics (hotel room price inflated for a rival team) as t just doesn't seem necessary! I am sorry they had to leave though, very sad.

It was good fun and I'm looking forward to next week.

LaLaLamp · 03/03/2019 22:45

Brilliant - It was gripping. Can't wait for the next episode. I feel like I know one of the blokes (the two friends whose business folded) on there, not sure where from though.

dontknowwhattodo80 · 03/03/2019 22:51

We really enjoyed it too!

TwitterQueen1 · 03/03/2019 22:56

I'm looking forward to seeing the boy (Alex) do a hard day's work! His dad seems lovely and is doing him a huge favour in trying to encourage personal responsibility. The clip of his mum bringing him a plate of biscuits to eat in front of the tv was illuminating..

Best TV show for a long time - can't wait for next week's episode!

Smidge001 · 03/03/2019 23:10

Yes, the boy was painful! His dad seemed great. I think this will be the making of him.

Tortadellanonna · 03/03/2019 23:12

225 euros, a meal and a bed for the night for a days labouring? Seems a bit fishy to me.

5foot5 · 04/03/2019 00:37

Really enjoyed this. Think Alex's Dad seems like a good, resourceful chap but Alex seems a bit of a wet and a weed. A healthy 20 year old nearly in tears at the thought of a night out of doors!?

FuckyNel · 04/03/2019 09:11

Loving this! Also the rally race after

BareBelliedSneetch · 04/03/2019 14:18

The way Alex said “mum is always there for me to make me stronger, always has the right advice” or something similar sounded very much like “mum is always ready to make decisions for me and do everything for me” to me Grin. He was acting like such a child!

dottypotter · 04/03/2019 14:19

parts of it were staged, but yes enjoyed it.

Sarcelle · 04/03/2019 14:21

The young guy with the dad was annoying and the weakest link in the programme. Hopefully his epic journey will make him more of an adult rather than the manchild he looks like in ep 1.

Petalflowers · 04/03/2019 22:12

Didn’t plan to watch this, but found myself watching it after Top GeAr, and surprisingly quite enjoyed it. There’s a nice mixture of people, and it was presented well.

Found myself comparing it to Hunted. Ie. When the duos find a hostel etc to sleep, what happens to the cameraman and sound recordist? Do they rough it as well, or sleep in a nearby hotel.

TheMadGardener · 04/03/2019 23:29

DH and DDs and I just caught up with this and enjoyed it very much. DDs (aged 14 and 12) scathing about snowflake Alex and agree he needs to man up. Think the two hipsters whose business folded have a good chance of winning.

I do hope they were all allowed a comfortable night in the hotel in Delphi before they started off again! Just been horrifying DDs by telling them some of the stories from mine and DH's low-budget travels years ago - the time we ran out of money in Austria and had to survive for two days on a bag of nectarines and refilling our water bottles from the village well, or the toilet at the coach stop in Greece which was so vile everyone opted to use the bushes instead...

TwitterQueen1 · 05/03/2019 08:53

My DD asked why they don't stay in hostels. She's recently been interrailing round Europe and they cost about 10 euros a night I believe.

I remember a lot o fun times travelling through Europe on a low budget MadGardener The youf of today have no idea! I went on a 3 week coach trip to Russia and was thrown in a river on my 17th birthday in Romania. Happy times.

I think I'm enjoying it because I'M REALLY REALLY ENVIOUS Envy Envy
Can I do it pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Perhaps the lack of time to plan and research things on-line means they haven't been able to seek out the best and cheapest deals always.

ihatethecold · 10/03/2019 16:27

I really enjoyed the first one of these, so glad they haven't used celebs.

twosoups1972 · 10/03/2019 17:52

Really enjoyed this, looking forward to next episode tonight.

Alex is such a princess! But I suppose that's how they wanted him portrayed.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 10/03/2019 17:56

I loved it too! Not doing it with my sister though as she thought Delphie was in India so I think we’d be a bit late to the first checkpoint.

Really interesting group of people. My money’s on the 60 something BFFs to get eliminated next week.

Petalflowers · 10/03/2019 21:37

Anyone watching tonight? Not sure i’d Like the 18 hour coach journeys,

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 10/03/2019 21:50

I've really gone off Elaine (the retired pe teacher), I know that it's a race but her competitiveness is really unpleasant. Her and tony aren't considering how much money they're spending either which could bite them in the bum!

I don't mind Alex, he's very young and hopefully this could be the experience that helps him grow up.

purpleme12 · 10/03/2019 21:55

Didn't know this was on. Might give it a try

TwitterQueen1 · 10/03/2019 22:06

The female friends just seemed to lack impetus and momentum - not surprised they were last really, though Alex and Dad had a very close shave. Alex pretending to mop the floor was very funny - he really doesn't have a clue does he.

I didn't mind Tony and Elaine actually. They played a blinder by talking to other people about bus times and did really well to make it.

really enjoying this.
I like the two young guys the best.

Petalflowers · 10/03/2019 22:18

I was surprised they were allowed to use someone else’s mobile phone to get info, as I thought they were supposed to be technology free.
