With only five posts left on the old thread, thought I'd start this so we can link between the two.

This thread carries on from the first:

Sam and Jo were my favourites too. So very very sad. Condolences to Jo and family. What cherished memories Jo will have of their time in South America xx

TokyoSushi · 01/06/2025 21:11

Checking in, such sad news about Sam.

Gundogday · 01/06/2025 17:38

That’s so sad. They were my favourites as well. If I recall correctly, they knew they were short of money so spent the remaining of it going horse riding. .

Oh my goodness how very very sad 😢

I think the brothers should be given their own series. They’re far more interesting and talented than half the nonentities on TV these days.

Agreed. They’re great. It’s been quite moving watching them

bestcatlife · 02/06/2025 09:12

Sam Gardiner has died in a car crash.. can't remember which series this was (was the one with Jen and Rob in) such sad news 😢

Cocolapew · 02/06/2025 09:13

Very sad news about Sam, they were my favourite couple as well.

bestcatlife · 02/06/2025 09:13

Oh ignore me!

TwentyKittens · 02/06/2025 11:39

I've just seen on Alfie Watt's Insta that Sam Gardiner has a Just Giving page set up by his dad. He is raising money for National FASD.

Sad about Sam, his mum Jo was great.

Blimeyblighty · 02/06/2025 21:55

I remember Sam and Jo - how sad.

Just caught up with RATW last night. Reading back, I see that a lot of you felt this was a better episode but for some reason I couldn't really engage and was willing it to be over. I was exceptionally tired last night though, having been on my own travelling adventure (to a UK seaside town!) over the weekend.

Elizabeth and Letitia had a quick chat about how Letitia has felt resentful for years that her sister, being older, was able to escape the family homelessness situation. That's very immature of her, but now suddenly all is fine? I remember the Mum and daughter had a very similar moment of #familyhealingbreakthrough in the last series. Hmmm.

I did laugh at Melvyn in his turban. Somehow it looked funnier on him because he is bald.

I wonder if the weavers understand what cerebral palsy (in English) is and if they were actually interested?

I don't care who wins - I'm not terribly interested and it now feels like a series I have to finish because I started it.

Gundogday · 03/06/2025 21:58

I also watched last weeks episode today. I felt that Letitia and Elizabeth weren’t really any further forward in their relationship, and in fact they seemed closer earlier on in the series (although that could be due to editing). They both seem pretty hurt still (and pretty p-ssed of with each other). They don’t seem to gave realised that neither were to blame.

I love how the brothers were wearing turbans. They’re really embracing the adventure, despite finding it difficult at times.

paranoiaofpufflings · 04/06/2025 14:57

Late finding this thread but I’m joining in as we get near the end.

Very sad to hear about Sam! Him and his mum were my favourites in that series.

Echoing other comments here. I absolutely love the concept of this show and would desperately love to be a contestant, but I don’t have a sob story so I know I’d never be picked.

What I love most is the concept of travelling without technology, managing on a fixed budget, finding a way, exploring, meeting locals. And increasingly we don’t see enough of that. In this series for example, the younger couple got taken off in a taxi the wrong way and left not knowing where they were. We saw it happened, but we didn’t see how they got themselves out of the situation. We haven’t seen any real price negotiations, which I had great fun with when I was in India!

Still enjoying watching though!

I thought it was the final tonight for some reason but just found out that's next week 🎉😄

TwentyKittens · 04/06/2025 17:56

Over £7500 raised for National FASD now.

What a fitting way to remember him. 😊

I looked and couldn’t find it (I’m not very technical 🙈) if anyone has a link please? TIA

TwentyKittens · 04/06/2025 18:32

I've sent you a DM :)

His father Andrew Gardiner has set things up.

I don’t under stand all these lovely breaks they are having? They don’t seem to struggle much at all.
