With only five posts left on the old thread, thought I'd start this so we can link between the two.

This thread carries on from the first:

Is she divorced?

purpleme12 · 19/06/2025 22:02

No

AnotherNewName456 · 19/06/2025 23:08

Coming to this late but I didn’t see anywhere that it noted their remaining budget at the end , was it shown at all?

Stirabout · 20/06/2025 01:10

TwentyKittens · 19/06/2025 21:58

Yes, she said she'd downsized to a barn conversion, got rid of her horse, and her dog had to be put to sleep. All in a short space of time just before she applied.

She also said she'd got her horse back since doing the show.

Interesting.
Someone should tell her she’s obliged to tell Companies House then as she applied to go on RATW over a year ago.

Yes good point - they forgot the race part a bit!!

My cynical old self wonders if this is either

A. Bollocks, or
B. A barn on the property.

I'm pretty sure Tom is an only child.
He has cerebral palsy which probably explains the protectiveness.

Goodness me the bitterness towards Caroline by some posters on this thread is astonishing.

It comes across a lot like jealously.

I'd say every participant is privileged, not just Caroline. The sisters included. Yes, they may have gone through financial hardship when the youngest was a teen, that happened to a friend of mine who's fathers business failed, soon picked himself up though. Unprivileged people can't afford to go traveling and learning Manderin.

Same for the brothers, one more so than the other obviously.

And the lovely young welsh couple who can afford to go traveling again straight out of school. This is not something your average youngsters can just do.

But only the bitterness towards Caroline.

So so odd.

Bruisername · 20/06/2025 17:44

I have no jealousy towards any of the contestants and agree they are all privileged but so am I (which I recognise!). I’m sure if I went on everyone watching would find me annoying

the problem with Caroline was the constant narrative around her being a sahm. Now a lot of that was due to editing but there were occasions where she did show a lack of self awareness ( when with the flower workers for example).

im sure in everyday life she’s very nice but from how they portrayed her it wasn’t great

i also think they overly showed Caroline and Tom (I wonder if anyone has done the airtime stats) - probably because they knew they were the winners. But I don’t think it helped

It's the lying about being nothing but a housewife for the past 20 years that's the issue.

I couldn't care less if she had 50 horses, a 500 acre farm, sounded plummier than the King, and was a billionaire (although I might question why a billionaire wanted to go on the show...).

She's a successful horse trainer.

Are the people driving at speed past the point missing that she has a career? So she isn't and never has been a housewife.

Despite that being her story on the show. And no amount of it "being the editing" gets past that she straight out tells us over and over that she had no career and was only a housewife.

And I totally get that she might have fallen into horse training, and that it never really fulfilled her, and wasn't something that she felt was truly hers.

It would have been more honest to say that and be changed or fulfilled or inspired by the show, and it would have shown that anybody at all, even if they look like they have everything, can feel unfulfilled and empty.

Instead we get something that is patently not true.

But no, she isn't lying, it's the editing not her, and pulling her up on it is just bitterness! 🙄

The Canada series was well edited. The logistics of travel options and routes were more limited. Mainly hitching, buses and of course Taxi Man. I seem to recall several pinch points for things like ferries or a particular train that bunched the contestants up. A lot of the travel joy came from the variation of the landscape.

It was interesting seeing the reunion and reflecting on the journeys and what it's meant for them.

I hope there is a reverting back to more travel and reduction of back story to a more proportionate scale next time. It's interesting seeing more about who you're following, but this time it was uneven and too repetitive.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 21/06/2025 08:56

Sioned and Fin could have been working and saving money since they were 16, my dd has worked alongside college since then and has saved loads of money. She’s planning a Thailand/Australia next year aged 19 entirely self funded 🤷‍♀️

TamanNegara · 21/06/2025 10:26

Even starting in Australia and working there means they could have saved the money for more travel afterwards.

RaraRachael · 21/06/2025 11:06

I've enjoyed watching the after programme. It's funny how some contestants I liked in the show, I liked less on this and vice versa.

I don't remember it being shown but I'm sure there was a reference to how cheap transport was in India and that none of the contestants were struggling, budget wise, on the last leg.

Sioned and Finn were both working and living at home. Sioned worked at a leisure centre on the reception desk. I can't remember what Finn was doing. It's quite easy to save money if you're living at home and not paying rent / bills / weekly shop etc etc.

Completely agree. I’m not bitter towards her at all. I liked them both they seemed like genuinely nice people.

I don’t care that she has horses and has won competitions.

What has annoyed me is that either she or the producers have made out that she is some martyred housewife who had spent her life scrubbing floors and making dinners when this isn’t true.

If she had said ‘I’ve been lucky in my life, my husband having a good job has meant that besides running the household I’ve been able to pursue my interest in eventing and have won several awards’ I would have had more respect for her.

It would have been great if she had been able to go to a ‘home stay’ with horses and show what she can do.

NCTDN · 22/06/2025 22:32

I think the reunion show was the best episode! You probably dare more of the places in that one than any other!
