I think it all started to go to shit around the second half of The Six storyline. No idea if Clenshaw was in charge then. Although the original premise of that SL was really good, it dragged on for far too long and became silly. They made really poor use of Nish, who was a fabulous actor, with the nonsense around him taking the blame and hiding in plain sight on the square for weeks endlessly plotting revenge.

The last 6-12 months have just been really bizarre at times tbh. Characters appearing in one episode and then absent for the next few months, implausible exits and stop/start storylines that get randomly reprised. They need to sort out the cast. The Nu Mitchell’s have not worked out (Nicola and Teddy actors are good but they have shit scripts) and Vicky’s return has been a complete damp squib. Actors like Avani have too much screen time, she is not talented enough for the material she’s been given. Why haven’t they replaced or written out Peter - he simply cannot act. It’s been a bit of mess.

You're absolutely right about the NuMitchells, I am not forgiving Clenshaw for them! And he should have re-cast Peter.

The Six did drag on too long but it was in the main a good storyline. I loved the flash forward.

So no big storyline is happening on the 13th?

I've really taken to teddy and Nichola and the boys ,I'm hoping they take over the Vic from the wannabe Angie that is Elaine.
Phil is under used ,and where is Sharon
I used to love Zac ,but he's been unhinged lately, really gone of him .Lauren and this Peter don't work at all
Lauren goes with Zac ,that would give him the family he's after

Zac is another character they have changed for the worst! Ever since Nicola appeared and he cottoned on and then found out that Barney was his child

Yeah ,when Zac first came in ..in the funeral episode,he was fab and feisty ,
But they have ruined his character lately

What happened about the sex tape Joel made with avarnie ..has that been forgotten..I don't remember anything much coming from it

Hasn't the recording already been spread around? That's why Avani was being trolled? Or will Joel send it out because he was humiliated by Avani this week? I did read on Facebook that the parents find out soon but not sure if that's a theory.

Zac and Lauren could work but they possibly won't try because of Whitney. Although Whitney doesn't care, she left and hasn't looked back, she's possibly moved on. It's hard to relate though because in real life you just wouldn't go near a friends ex etc but this is soapland. Peter and Lauren could have been good, and it could have been their wedding this week but Eastenders doesn't allow happy couples

It won't let me edit my post but I also wanted to add that I dislike George and think it's time he left, maybe he can go to stay with Juniors mum.

Avani kneed Joel in the bollocks, I think that might have been the end of it 🤷‍♀️

Never liked zack but him and lauren are such an obvious match. They had their one night stand, we'll probably have a will they won't they until Christmas '26

I can't imagine that Joel would be still alive if if ravi knew of the video,so I assumed it was on a cloud on the phone of Joel's , especially as he showed it Tommy,but then I don't remember anything else coming of it
I really really haven't taken to Joel ,Vicki or the dad ..they just don't fit

Yes the bill ...never watched Holby ,did occasionally watch the bill .

It feels like they only brought Vicki in to cover Sharon leaving..as if Sharon would really leave so soon after Vicki her beloved sister arrived.
And no more mention of the money they got of Sharon ,that seems all forgotten about as well

I don’t think the video has been released, I think Joel will release it in revenge for the humiliation of Amy releasing the video of Avani kneeing him in the groin.

I think that was Avani's revenge for him sharing the sex tape. That's definitely why everyone was trolling her.

I agree, I don't think the video has been released, we would have seen Ravi and Priya going ballistic if it had. I think Joel just told everyone he'd shagged Avani which is why she was getting abuse. She doesn't actually know she was filmed does she?

I agree, but isn’t that just what an executive producer of a soap supposed to do? I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Overall, I enjoyed his era and I applaud him and his team pulling off some of the biggest shocks in EE history (the death of Martin and the ‘resurrection’ of Angie). He also got rid of some deadwood that was dragging the show down.

I did like the 6 storyline idea, and even bringing cindy back, but what's the point in grabbing headlines if the writing can't back it up 😬 and characters are ruined in the process. Cathy shovelling cindy for instance

I really love eastenders, have watched it my whole life, but its lost its way 😔. I know its hard to try and please everyone but maybe this next guy can crack it

I'd say maybe a soap should be focused on storylines that are drawn from the character and what they bring, rather than being forced on them

I think there’s too many characters for the writers to develop properly in two hours of TV per week. I also feel there’s too many writers, often working tangentially, and not talking to each other which messes up consistency of plots.

Yes this.

EE worked well back in the day when they focused on key characters and developed stories for them rather than coming up with hairbrained storylines and trying to foist them on characters in ways that do not make sense. They have tried to do too much at the same time.

I still maintain that killing Martin was a huge mistake. He was the first EE baby and there are so few of the originals left. He could have grown into an icon à la Ken Barlow (maybe the actor wouldn’t want to stay in EE for 50 years but you know what I mean😂). We will have to wait for Arthur and Hope to return with new heads and continue the Fowler lineage. Becs can stay in Bali please!

I agree it was probably a mistake to kill Martin, he was extremely boring and the actor was limited but the same can be said of Ken Barlow, live long enough you become a soap icon 😆

Speaking of which, I know I've complained about the last few weeks on EE, but current Corrie makes EastEnders look like Shakespeare. Corrie got so bad I've stopped watching.

I can see from this thread that ee has left too much up for interpretation, I.e the Joel recording, but then put in unnecessary filler and sub plots.
I agree they have a writers problem, what's the saying, too many cooks spoil the broth!
I gave up years ago on corrie and hollyoaks, so I can't compare and i've never watched emmerdale.
