I've just watched the first episode and I'm shocked. The two year gap since the last season has made me forget about the level of brutality.

I have not seen it yet, but it sounds like a watered-down version of what happens in the book.

I read something extremely brutal happens, but the episode is very good

The 'blood and cheese' scene was much worse in the book.

The book didn’t have sound effects though!

I think they are going to diverge fairly significantly from the book though as Maelor doesn’t exist (yet).

Got GOT was brutal but that was grim. I don't know if I can continue with it, maybe I'm not as robust as I used to be in the Red Wedding days!

Oh the horror!
It finally clicked 'A son for a son' (name of the episode) the moment they found Helaena.

I don’t know if I’m being extra sensitive because I’ve got an 18 month old boy, but that episode really turned my stomach.

It’s slightly put me off watching anymore episodes. I don’t mind the blood and gore but that was grim.

Oh no. How far in and for how long. I can’t abide animal cruelty.

I’m exactly the same, it’s really put me off watching anymore.

I've finished watching it, horrible scene I turned the sound down as didn't need to hear it

Agree it made me feel like I couldn’t watch anymore episodes, absolutely brutal. Obviously R wouldn’t have wanted this.

Watered down from the books but still horrific.
And then things happened that didn’t in the books, which irritated me.
Patiently awaiting episode two…

Why were the books worse, dare I ask?

In the book it was much longer. Alicent was also there. There were rape/violence threats to the adult women.

But principally the difference was that there were two boy children and Helena was forced to chose between them, like “Sophie’s Choice”.

They then killed the other child and told the survivor to remember his mother wanted him to die.

How did they get the dog up the ladder?

so glad it’s back but so used to binge watching that one episode feels so insufficient

SPOILERS HERE PROBABLY

Aside from the emotional hit of the book being far crueller, and having a terminal impact on Helaena’s arc….

the book had the whole thing about

• Alicent taking up residence in the tower of the hand which has less security so blood and cheese could sneak in
• Helaena regularly taking the children to her mother to say good night and the killers taking advantage of this habit to strike

in this episode they were wondering around in full view and no guard said shit! No guards anywhere except Cristan Cole banging Alicent. Well, being banged by Alicent. not as well executed.

separately, now that Aegon ii is starting to perk up as king, is he reminding anyone else strongly of Viserys (as in dany’s brother)?

I was horrified.

It was just too much, we turned the sound down too.

I was expecting much worse having read the book, which is probably why I'm not as affected as those who didn't know what was coming.

Glad I read this so thank you re the dog. We won't be watching.
