Following on from the last thread, that started in late April 2024.

Joel's the baddie, and Lauren is still missing
Roy's a free man, and Carla and Swain are close to kissing
Will Bethany quit moaning, she does it all the time!
Sarah is still hot, but needs to slow down on the wine

Leanne's missing too, has that cult bloke kidnapped her then?
And where are the quads, does anyone ever see them?
Paul's still alive, hanging on and on in there
Cop Kit's a bit tasty but a bit annoying and hard to bear

Not much with the Platts or the Barlows or The Rovers
Carla's pub money being stolen by Jenny and Daisy has been glossed over
Adam still has his wacky hair that's a bit greasy
Daniel's still boring, yet the cutest girls to him come easy

The school bully storyline has eased off a bit
So Maria can chill - and Sarah can get off with Kit
I hope it's OK for me to start this new thread my friends
I wonder where we'll be at when this thread ends? Smile

I've just caught up, Peter Ash is a brilliant actor, Paul and Todd was very moving, I even felt sorry for Billy. I wonder if Paul will die naturally soon.

Peter Ash deserves all the awards for how he played this role.

The moment when Todd realised what Paul intended to do was heartstopping. Wonderful acting by Gareth Pierce - his face showed so much emotion, without the need for words. I don’t like when characters are replaced with a new actor, but I think GP is a much better Todd than BL.

Although it was very well done, I do feel that it would have been more fitting for him to pass away last night.
I get that real life isn't all tidy and convenient like that! But I'd rather it didn't drag on.

Yes

Also I thought he wasn't allowed outside flat or was it that he couldn't use stairlift and needed carrying instead

JMSA · 27/07/2024 12:17

It was that his body was too unsupported on the stairlift and it was now considered dangerous.
I think the being outside part was fine.

VoteHappy · 27/07/2024 14:13

Yes but no one else could be expected to carry him, risk of injury to him and his care givers .

suburburban · 27/07/2024 14:25

I assume they took that risk, was some of it flashbacks

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/07/2024 15:43

I watched it this morning. I proper sobbed and ugly cried. I too thought Paul was going to pass naturally. God intervened by sending the kids round so it’s clearly not his time just yet.

I didn't realise that Rob Burrows had coached him. I thought it was really cleverly done that all his thoughts were totally clear. That must be how they feel, trapped inside a broken body.

That’s exactly what it is. Their mind and spirit is still very much there. It’s sort of contrast really to altzhiemers (sp?) isn’t it. Where the body out lives the mind rather than the mind out living the body.

HurdyGurdy19 · 27/07/2024 16:11

Somewhat off topic, but just how big is Summer's bedroom - and bed - that it could accommodate five kids!

I watched it this morning, and started welling up as soon as it started, with Paul dancing freely.

Then I properly cried when you could see that Todd understood Paul's intentions.

And finally, I bawled when Paul played Oh Happy Days and the penny dropped for Billy.

HurdyGurdy19 · 27/07/2024 17:09

And something else that surprised me was Gemma being so over-the-moon by Kit buying the house so she and her husband and five children could continue to live in an ridiculously over crowded, cramped house! It's not like it's a well presented, spacious home for them all.

I could have understood if Kit had bought their house, and persuaded one of the adjoining neighbours to also sell to him, and then knocked the two houses together, if Gemma and Chesney were so happy in the street. They could maybe have made at least one half-reasonable garden out of the two back yards.

i know. You’d think they’d be glad to get out of there. You couldn’t swing a worm never mind a cat.

QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse · 27/07/2024 20:22

Surely Gemma and Chez would be better off if Kit didn't buy the house. They'd be top of the housing list and would be much better off in the long run.

69pbiryani · 27/07/2024 20:54

I didn't enjoy that episode. I would rather see other characters and stories within an hour. Well acted by Paul. He is a good character and has the most beautiful smile.

TheFifthTellytubby · 27/07/2024 21:39

Roryhon · 26/07/2024 23:02

Oh my goodness, all that emotion and he’s still alive! I thought it was going to be a dreadful episode at first, but it was really emotional and I bawled. I thought he was going to die in his sleep. My husband thought one of the kids were going to find it and get ill.
But now Billy has mixed the drugs up surely they can’t be used now? Couldn’t he just give them to a character we don’t like? Like Joel?
Oh and I thought the Billy actor managed that episode quite well. He’ll never be the best, but he didn’t mess it up.

Edited

The pills were in a bottle so it's possible there's another dose. What I'm more concerned about is - wouldn't Billy get into trouble if the drugs were detected in a post-mortem, as there's no way Paul could have self-administered? Or would Paul's death be automatically attributed to natural causes as he's so ill?

To have them move to a bigger house would mean thy would have to move out of Coronation Street, and that would never do would it?
I for one would be over the moon as a move out of Coronation Street would be just great, no more Gemma in nearly every scene.I find her very annoying.

Yes I was wondering that. I think he’d get into trouble. You get court cases for people that have done it. I presume that’s a future storyline.

Shellingbynight · 27/07/2024 22:16

Given the late stage of Paul's illness it's likely he has been prescribed some strong meds so it would be an overdose of those. There may not be a post mortem as Paul's death is 'expected'.

But the way this has been set up, I suspect there will be no assisted suicide, and Paul will die naturally. If it was going to be an AS storyline I think it would have happened on Friday.

Agreed, I think Paul will pass naturally as I doubt they would repeat those scenes. It was more of a hypothetical question, really. And it wouldn't do to have another "free the Weatherfield one" storyline so soon after the last one! I'm sure that the drugs came from somewhere else, though - didn't Paul's friend with MND get them for him? I vaguely remember there being a scene when Bernie found them while cleaning.

Shellingbynight · 28/07/2024 09:46

I remember Shelly fraudulently buying laptops, and Bernie tried to sell some on for her, which is why she was jailed. I don't remember anything with drugs but I may have missed it.

TheFifthTellytubby · 28/07/2024 10:05

I remember now - it was Abi who got him the drugs, through one of her dodgy former contacts.

lollipoprainbow · 29/07/2024 21:49

Can the deepfake storyline please end its soooooo tedious.

Oh yes, please bring it to a close. I can't even remember (or care) about the details of it.

Shellingbynight · 29/07/2024 22:34

It's awful isn't it, I zoned out for some of it tonight. I thought it had fizzled out but it turned up again.

I also don't care about Beth, her locker, her wedding, and her envelope of cash.

And ditto Summer and her 20 minute boyfriend whose name I had forgotten. I wondered why she was talking about someone called Felix.

I thought the speech Paul asked Billy to read out was quite moving, but at the same time it felt quite manipulative. No doubt Paul will conveniently die in his sleep and be no bother to anyone.

JellyBeanFactory · 30/07/2024 00:57

I thought Beth & Kirk were married. Didn't they have an '80s style wedding a few years back?

AmusedMaker · 30/07/2024 06:11

I used to think Beth was Kirk’s Mum.

and yes, the deepfake storyline is so boring.
They obviously want to develop the Stefan character.

Clawdy · 30/07/2024 08:06

As if Jack would allow a stranger into the house, then leave him alone whilst he went out for milk! Ridiculous.
