Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

I think if you read the books it all makes more sense. Personally I love the featherington sisters especially Prudence I think her acting is spot on.

Just finished watching episode 2. I had loads of work interruptions and the fact I could pause without hesitation shows how boring AF it was.

Nicola Coghlan looks amazing but is basically reprising tearful Claire from Derry Girls. Luke Newton can’t act. I have wooden spoons with more character.

Alice Mondrich is so beautiful but they have no plot. Why are they side characters?

No Kanthony at all, not even mentioned. Why would you have two award winning actors on your cast and simply not use them?

Agree to all this

I have read the books. Also isn't there a featherington sister missing?

FiloPasty · 16/05/2024 22:05

Yes Felicity is missing, I read something about why they’d left her out, in the books Penelope’s mother thinks Colin is asking for the younger sister to marry him.

StedeBonnet · 16/05/2024 22:21

Loved it. I was weeping when Pen asked Colin to kiss her, I found this one much more emotional than the last one (so far.)

Francesca's story is boring as fuck though.

GreggsSteakBake · 16/05/2024 22:57

Not convinced by Colin being a man whore, though Luke did his best. Wasn't convincing for me.

Love LOVE that Fran is an introvert, because I am too! She's the total opposite to Eloise. Though what she has in common with her sister is their mum constantly comparing them to Daphne.

Eloise losing some of her rebellious spirit and spending time with Cressida: don't get it. They gave little in common. Thiugh Cressida seems to have toned down the bitchiness by about 10%. Just a smidge

Benedict has a new girlfriend? Yawn. Otherwise he's as cute as ever.

I agree with others...once Kanthony was done, it was really done. Time for them to be more in the background now.

All that the Featherington Ugly Sisters seem to be doing is having their own mini Baby Race á la Queen Charlotte.

Lord Anderson: Oh here's another rake with a past. Suspect he and his sister have something in common...

Love it when all the brothers get together.

Love the Polin snog, you can pinpoint the moment when Colin falls in love, I think. The "carriage scene" was lovely too 🥵. But Nicola as Penelope is knocking it out of the park with her scting. Brilliant stuff.

NarrowGate · 16/05/2024 23:04

Last two episodes are so much better than the first two because of the humour and the dance, but overall I’m so disappointed. Too many characters, too much emphasis on boring characters, and a very underwhelming pair of main characters in whom I’m just not emotionally invested. What a wasted opportunity.

Sorry for the typos.

sonjadog · 16/05/2024 23:49

I enjoyed it on the whole. I like Penelope and Colin's story and that they are more complex characters. I also enjoyed the insight into Cressida Cowper's life. The Mondrichs I really don't care about at all, and haven't in any of the series. If I end up rewatching, I think I will probably fast forward the bits about them.

Bankholidayhelp · 17/05/2024 00:01

Binged it, loved it. Role on June

Missfelinemoo · 17/05/2024 00:06

Just finished ep 4 and feel replenished. I loved it. Yep there's minor irritations but actually sat and watched without being on my phone. I like that each series is it's own thing. I loved the kiss scene and the carriage scene (fans self).

Newnewer · 17/05/2024 00:24

I've watched the 4 episodes. I wasn't overly interested in kanthony but I'm even less interested in polin, there's no spark. We were possibly treated too well with the queen Charlotte spin off and now bridgerton just doesn't compare. I wasn't keen on the end scene of ep 4, it lacked romance and I just felt sorry for pen being tarnished by a rake. Is there any chance they delayed the release to edit the last 4?

BruceAndNosh · 17/05/2024 01:11

I'm only just into episode 2 but "nice Colin" seems to have become an insufferable arse

For those that have read all the Bridgerton books which ones by Julia Quinn should I try next? Or should I try some Georgette Heyer?

I really enjoyed “Just Like Heaven” by Julia Quinn.

On the whole I prefer Mary Balogh and Lisa Kleypas, particularly the former.

“Nine rules to break when romancing a rake” by Sarah Maclean is great too. Also all Louise Allen and Lara Temple in Historical Mills and Boon.

I used to love Georgette Heyer’s, but not as much on rereading.

sonjadog · 17/05/2024 09:50

I really liked the Smyth-Smith quartet by Julie Quinn. They are easy, non-demanding books, but I found them entertaining and good "lying about on a Sunday" reads. The Bevelstoke series are okay, I think she wrote them earlier so they are a bit patchy as she was still developing as a writer, but they have some funny scenes and good ideas.

WhatICallMyUsername · 16/05/2024 17:41

@NarrowGate I agree about the height difference! There was one scene where it was markedly less obvious so she must have been stood on a stool!

I noticed that too, so much that I rewound...
When Pen sneaks out to the garden to meet Colin, she is standing in a archway with a step down to the level Colin is standing on!

BruceAndNosh · 17/05/2024 10:38

Since Lady (Mrs?) Featherington is so keen to get her daughters pregnant, you think she'd have ensured that they knew how to do the deed properly.
It's not as bad as Violet failing to tell Daphne ANYTHING about sex, which made no sense since Violet had a love match so should have had a postive view of the marriage bed and not just "endure it"

The scene with the sister explaining what they do was funny.

Awful to think that women could have got married not having a clue though.

I think that is deliberate, he's trying, I think, to be more what society expects of a "man" of his position. There is a theme in Bridgerton of men (Simon, Anthony) fighting their true feelings only to realise the error of their ways!

Yes, definitely this.

Outandabout43 · 17/05/2024 11:51

In the book Collin is at a loss of his place, Anthony is the viscount, Benedict has his paintings so he takes on the role of charming that the ladies love, whilst really he is feeling lost about what is purpose is

Outandabout43 · 17/05/2024 11:52

And even though violet had a love match, in those days sex was not spoken about I'm any terms and often caused embarrassment

CornedBeef451 · 17/05/2024 12:01

I've just finished episode 4 and I'm very disappointed!

I loved season 2 but I just can't see Colin as sexy despite his glow up. Penelope looks fab but I just didn't feel a spark between her and Colin.

I'm not sure Benedict will work for me either when they do his story.

Trycod · 17/05/2024 12:07

Does anyone hate the way Lady Danbury talks? It feels so stiff that it properly takes me out of it. Very ott and distracting.

Trycod · 17/05/2024 12:09

I would have loved Penelope to go with the naturalist guy.

It’s hard to believe that Pen puts on a new frock colour and all of a sudden appeals to Colin (who is a disgusting user of women’s bodies).

A sensible choice (naturalist) could have been romantic if done well.
