Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

I also thought given her age it was implied she wasn’t.

I'm just reading the book & she's 20!

So how old is Edwina?! Is it the same story - same father, different mothers?

Yes story pretty much the same so far although I'm not that far into it yet.

Edwina 16 almost 17.

Anthony has decided to marry & decided on Edwina as she is the Diamond.

MeinKraft · 20/06/2024 19:31

Anthony gave Kate the speech about do you know all the ways a woman can be seduced? All the things I could show you? But she definitely seems less innocent than Daphne and co. Kate's mum seemed sensible though, maybe she had the talk with the sisters.

Do you think they played Yellow for Penelope walking down the aisle because of her yellow dresses Grin

Binglebong · 20/06/2024 20:45

I read the Conelope book again today. Much, much better than the show. The love involved was so moving.

I did like Colin telling Portia Feathering off in the show though!

I liked it, but I was disappointed by Francesca's story line. They made a fuss about how she was showing a different kind of love, one that is quiet rather than instantaneous- and then show her being struck by Michaela in exactly the instantaneous way. In the book she really loves her husband, and only later grows to care for Michael and I'd rather they had kept to that

Totally agree. It would also be a nice balance to show a bisexual storyline that involves genuine love, rather than just tedious threesomes.

I think that Kate is a virgin, and Anthony does "dishonour" her. She thinks that's why he wants to marry her. He says do her "the things I could teach you..." She really doesn't know anything either (and is younger than Pen when she marries, by the book's timeline).

Okki · 22/06/2024 13:10

I am a bit confused about something. At Frans wedding, when Pen and Colin go for their chat and he says her secret will always be between them. She says I know, perhaps that is the key. Does he then stay at Bridgerton house? She writes to the queen and Violet - Colin is there she gets the letter. Then at the ball he comes with Bridgerton's and she comes with her mum. He thanks her for the letter - have they stayed apart that time so she can make her annulment offer? There was about a week between the two wasn't there?

Also Michaela and Eloise were holding hands when they got into the carriage at the end. Maybe Eloise is going to have a Benedict style voyage of discovery and Frans reaction was a red herring. DD told me she's seen fan speculation that her twin brother Michael is going to pop up. 😁.

Harassedevictee · 25/06/2024 13:46

@Karmaisagod that is interesting.

Part of the issue is that this is the first production of the Bridgerton books so fans are looking for a fairly faithful adaptation. I always remember a friend really looking forward to one of the Harry Potter films to see the de-gnoming of the garden, but it wasn’t in the film and they were so disappointed.

You can mess around with Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre etc. because they have been produced as films, tv series, modern day adaptions etc. so many times.

tribpot · 25/06/2024 17:30

I haven't read the books but from this thread it's clear that Michael is a fan favourite. This seems like a really odd one to have decided to swap sexes, esp as pregnancy seems to be a key part of the story. Surely with Benedict's new found polyamory he would have been a better candidate for mixing things up a bit?

FitFatKat · 25/06/2024 18:31

Benedict was straight until season 3. A very handsome and lovely chap made a pass at him in season 1 and he wasn’t up for it. By season 3 he’s bi with someone a bit dleazy and distinctly average looking? No way. I’m so peed off at the about-turn in his characterisation.

I’m less invested in Francesca and John because they’re both new characters, so less fussed. I understand why you would be absolutely furious if you’d read the books though - it would be like Anne Eliot marrying Benwick rather than Wentworth.

I have rewatched season 2 innumerable times but can’t bring myself to watch season 2 even a second time because they have messed up so much. I keep having flashbacks of Penelope on top with her dressing gown still on. So much second-hand embarrassment on her behalf, not least because covering yourself up doesn’t exactly convey body positivity.

FitFatKat · 25/06/2024 18:44

Kate is deffo a virgin. When Anthony goes for third base in the gazebo scene she shouts out in surprise.

She’s also well aware that oral doesn’t make you pregnant because she’s heading back to India rather than marrying Anthony.

Oh I miss Season 2! They’re such good actors and characters and Season 3 completely rubbished them.

Mydogfoundthechainsaw · 25/06/2024 19:36

JQ’s message also highlights the other main issue, which is that the Bridgerton books are romance novels and so fans are expecting Romance (which is distinct from romantic stories / rom-coms). Unfortunately, although they marketed series 3 as a Romance between Colin and Pen, that isn’t what they delivered, especially in part 2 which is more of a romantic drama. So there is not much trust the writers know what they are doing.

Fans have seen Fran be disappointed with John’s kiss and have what appears to be a love at first sight moment with Michaela. In terms of Romance neither should have happened, Fran and John should be endgame until he dies. If they wrote Fran as bi it would work, but not as a lesbian.

I do wonder if the show will survive particularly with a 2 year gap between seasons 😱The writers/producers could pull it back, but they do need to understand the genre they are meant to be writing!

Yes, Francesca's book is great as she has already been married and is experienced, so her sex scenes are not all coy and the man teaching her what to do and warning her it might hurt. She knows what she wants and is quite domineering. It's a nice change from all the other books. And Michael is the least arsehole-like of ALL the men in all the books.

neverclockwatching · 23/07/2024 16:18

Comfirmed. It's Benedict next season

tribpot · 23/07/2024 18:37

That's good, I thought it was mean to skip over his story to put the focus on Polin so early on.

Karmaisagod · 23/07/2024 23:17

I just read this! I'm really excited. I think Luke T as the sexy Bridgerton male lead is going to be almost too much to bear. I have watched the teaser 4 times in a row.

Still, two years, right?!?! 😥

Where's the teaser please?

honeyrider · 24/07/2024 10:01

Thanks for that.

diddl · 24/07/2024 17:30

I've just read Benedict book & didn't like it at all.

Thought it was quite sad for Sophie.

What do people love about it?

Harassedevictee · 26/07/2024 07:31

I’ve just re-read Benedict’s story. Personally it’s too Cinderella for me.

Karmaisagod · 26/07/2024 09:14

I haven't read Benedict's book. But I do fancy the pants off Luke T so I'm looking forward to his story a lot. I also have blind faith that the Bridgerton people will make it work.

cathyandclaire · 16/08/2024 20:40

Looks like they've cast Sophie for the next season. A rather lovely Australian - Korean actress who was in Dune - prophecy and Halo- Yerin Ha
