Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

Placemark as will probably binge tomorrow - not hearing great things about it though

MrsWhites · 16/05/2024 16:45

Just finished it, I loved it. It’s a little slower than the other series but it does grow as the episodes go on.

The final scene was so lovely and I actually enjoyed that they have started to tell some of the more minor character stories.

The spoiler for the next episodes at the end looks really good!

Fulshaw · 16/05/2024 16:52

I mean, there’s a lot of repetition with characters like the Queen, Lady Danbury, Lady Featherington, Benedict…..they don’t really have anything to do here. So they’re just sort of there, being the character they’ve always been but with no plot line.

Kathony suffer from the same problem as Daphne & Simon - what’s the story after happily ever after? There really isn’t one.

CatamaranViper · 16/05/2024 17:00

I mean, Daphne & Simon and KAnthony aren't the main characters this time so I don't really want to focus on them. I love that this show focusses on different characters each season. Nice to see the former ones pop up but I don't need more episodes focussing on them.
I'm really curious about Benedict. Having not read the books, I have no idea where his story will go but he seems really nice and funny.

I don't know why, but the use of prostitution by the Bridgerton boys really bothers me. I know it's a sign of the times, but society would turn their nose up at a 'dishonoured' woman but the men are off shagging all over the place. It makes me not like them.

Finished it
Poorly today so just huddled down watching it
It's excellent but I am annoyed that they have prevented a full binge

Also spoiler
Given they have sort of done Francesca story in this series, do we think they will go Benedict or Elosie next ?

SPOILER

they haven't done Francesca's story, as she is married to John before her book even starts. It's good we met John this series to lead up to the events of 'when he was wicked'.

I agree on the last point, it's very off putting.

I love benedicts story, that and hyacinths are my favourite I think.

WhatICallMyUsername · 16/05/2024 17:41

@NarrowGate I agree about the height difference! There was one scene where it was markedly less obvious so she must have been stood on a stool!

WhatICallMyUsername · 16/05/2024 17:42

CatamaranViper · 16/05/2024 16:37

Just binged it.
I haven't read any of the books. I don't tend to like those sorts of books but I'm thinking I might have to give them a go.

I didn't know season two was different from the book!

I've been reading book 3 whilst waiting for it to come on and it's so different it's like another story!

Harassedevictee · 16/05/2024 17:43

Just watched episode 1. Really like the fact they changed Lady Danbury’s colour palette.

The way they have restyled Pen is lovely. The fit of her dresses is really flattering. I wonder if the stylist could do the same for me!

NarrowGate · 16/05/2024 17:55

Just finished watching episode 2. I had loads of work interruptions and the fact I could pause without hesitation shows how boring AF it was.

Nicola Coghlan looks amazing but is basically reprising tearful Claire from Derry Girls. Luke Newton can’t act. I have wooden spoons with more character.

Alice Mondrich is so beautiful but they have no plot. Why are they side characters?

No Kanthony at all, not even mentioned. Why would you have two award winning actors on your cast and simply not use them?

This series is so disappointing so far.
I think Francesca and Lord Kilmartin seem sweet together though.

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/05/2024 18:51

I have watched it all and absolutely loved it. it's my favourite season of the three so far based on what we've seen.

Very excited for part 2!

Mistymornin · 16/05/2024 18:52

Am interested to see how Cressida's storyline fares in S3. Looks like they are not as as wealthy as we were (and The Ton) were led to believe.

MamaNewtNewt · 16/05/2024 18:53

I've just finished episode 4 and that final scene was just lovely. I have to say that marriage with Lord Debling sounds ideal to me, and he's fairly easy on the eye too. He'd actually be a good match for Eloise, well the old Eloise anyway. It was nice to see another side to Cressida and I'm finding Francesca interesting too. I think I might rewatch at a more leisurely pace to take things in.

I agree with others on the male characters use of prostitutes, which while historically appropriate, really doesn't sit well with me. Especially as the women are ruined if they are so much as alone with a man. Am I right in thinking that while Benedict gets about a bit, I don't think we've seen him buy women have we? He's definitely my favourite Bridgerton, so looking forward to his series.

FiloPasty · 16/05/2024 19:52

I’ve binged it all and loved it, I’ve also just read the 9 books of the Bridgerton series so I do see how they are scene setting for future series. I think they’ve done a brilliant job with Francesca she loves her family but just wants a life less bustling.
I think they’ll do Benedict next, then Francesca then Eloise so changing the book orders round and then finally Hyacinth and Gregory.

I think you’re being a bit harsh OP

FiloPasty · 16/05/2024 19:53

The prostitutes are all part of being a rake it is a bit falling the double standards. Romance novelists seem to love a virgin don’t they!

SnapdragonToadflax · 16/05/2024 20:04

But the prostitutes are historically accurate, aristocratic men wouldn't dare 'ruin' a well-bred young girl (and she wouldn't have had a clue what to do anyway). They kept mistresses, often in very nice lodgings and after marriage, and as the aristocracy rarely married for love in those days their life's love may well have been their mistress.

Obviously there were degrees with this stuff - many/most prostitutes had a terrible life, especially as they aged. But they were very different times.

(I've read endless Regency romances over the years - Julia Quinn was always my favourite along with the best Georgette Heyers and I bloody love Bridgerton 😁).

NarrowGate · 16/05/2024 20:15

@SnapdragonToadflax I’m so happy to find a fellow Georgette Heyer fan. Her novels have been my secret addiction for decades but I read them on Kindle because I’m so embarrassed!

About to start Ep 3 and hoping things improve. Interesting range of comments above so I’m still hopeful.

FiloPasty · 16/05/2024 20:20

For those that have read all the Bridgerton books which ones by Julia Quinn should I try next? Or should I try some Georgette Heyer?

CatamaranViper · 16/05/2024 20:32

Like I say I get the use of prostitution, it's appropriate for the era and the lifestyle etc but it really made me not like Colin this time.
Spoiler, but poor pen was crying about possibly never being kissed and he's buying multiple women.

Harassedevictee · 16/05/2024 20:38

@MamaNewtNewt I like Benedict too, he can convey a lot with a look.

ExcitedButNervous0424 · 16/05/2024 20:39

I binge watched it this morning and was pretty disappointed to be honest.

Dare I say it……. (I was actually quite bored at times).

MamaNewtNewt · 16/05/2024 20:40

@Harassedevictee yes! I love his little amused looks in the background.

hamsterno1 · 16/05/2024 20:53

Well I enjoyed it but did manage to work whilst watching it so it didn't grip me.

Too much of the featherington sisters who aren't funny.

Isn't the balloon accident straight out of Georgette Heyer too?

I think there could have been more tension between Colin and Penelope. The 'please kiss me' felt a bit too much of a fast forward.
