Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

And also allow for Cressida's character arc in the next season.

But they'd have to rewrite the kind but dead Dad bit.

Does anyone hate the way Lady Danbury talks? It feels so stiff that it properly takes me out of it. Very ott and distracting.

Yes the worst acting EVER. Totally over acts

workshy46 · 17/05/2024 18:48

Its not the worst but there is zero chemistry. She should have tried to lose weight as the dresses and heaving cleavage just makes her look like a barrel
She isn't even sparky or funny to explain his attraction to her. She's pretty mean spirited and bitter

I think Nicola Coughlan is excellent in this, absolutely convincing. It's depressing that you think she could only be attractive if she lost weight. She's bright, witty and pretty and as Lady Whistledown has enormous talent.

Her character in the books was of a curvy girl, given to weight gain. The Regency ideal was thin, lithe, with little boobage, so Pen stands out. She was also formerly dressed by her mum who thought "yellow is a cheerful colour" which was thought to attract suitors but in fact didn't help poor Penelope one bit. The empire line is very unforgiving.

I think she looks beautiful. Absolutely no need to body shame.

Fuck that's brutal.
Absolutely nothing wrong with her and I applaud her for being in the spotlight and not starving herself to 'fit in'.
She's beautiful.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/05/2024 19:41

Really unnecessary to comment on her weight.

I am on Episode 2. I'm really liking it.

ThinkingOfMe · 17/05/2024 19:50

Some idiot always has to ruin a thread. 🙄

Chrysanthemum5 · 17/05/2024 19:52

I enjoyed it and I thought there was a good amount of chemistry between Colin and pen. Their height difference does make scenes with them difficult and I thought they had some creative solutions to that (pen standing on a step etc.).

Benedict's story is bonkers and the interaction between him and the widow seems stilted. Especially when they dance that was a very awkward scene.

I didn't like the sub plot about the Mondrich family I thought it was just dull. But I guess it does show that lady featherington has reason to worry that estates can be taken away.

I liked Francesca's plot it was good to see a bridgerton who is more reserved - they can't all be extroverts!

And I feel very sorry for Cressida id like her to marry the Lord who travels a lot and then she could have a lovely time running her own house

virgocatlover · 17/05/2024 19:56

Did anyone else find the balloon scene laughable and just ridiculous? It was moving so slowly I don't know why Penelope couldn't just move out of the way. Probably the funniest scene so far.

Chrysanthemum5 · 17/05/2024 20:03

Yes the balloon scene was rubbish 🤣

Chrysanthemum5 · 17/05/2024 20:23

And I have become obsessed with how often characters have sex and then go on with their day without washing. Not even a penis beaker in sight.

I loved the balloon scene. 😁

Such a romance novel classic.
Danger - (although not really dangerous where anyone will get hurt) - hero rushes in to save the day, with brute strength.
But lo behold, his heroine is saved by another.

It was so sweet.

😂You are not the only one. They must all smell terrible.
I also ponder how they went to the loo. Did they poo in the chamber pot? Sorry to reduce the thread to such levels 😁

Pen should not have lost weight!! It's really sad that you would think the only good outcome would be her loosing weight. Her character in the book was no skinny minnie.

virgocatlover · 17/05/2024 21:09

Yes they would have pooed in chamber pots. And women didn't wear knickers yet, and bathed about once a week if that.

BruceAndNosh · 17/05/2024 21:17

I loved Pen's makeover with the simpler hairstyle without all fussy curls. I thought the emerald green dress was her trying too hard to be grown up rather than girlish but the later softer greens really worked with her colouring.
Lady F and the sisters are turning into Cinderellas stepmother and stepsisters!

Polly Walker is excellent. I always remember her in the TV series Rome as Asia of the Julii.

I absolutely love her in this series. She's my favourite character.

Her questioning jer daughters about their sex lives was hysterical. Her micro-expressions were spot-on. Great actress

Butchyrestingface · 17/05/2024 22:46

I've just watched the first four episodes and tonight started reading book 1.

I quite fancy Bridgerton son number 2.

Civilservant · 17/05/2024 23:07

Enjoying it lots! Fun.

CautiousOptimist · 17/05/2024 23:16

I confess I just watched the carriage scene again!Grin It's so lovely, so well done.

I think they have great chemistry actually, totally believable. There's just something wonderful about two people who've been friends for years (with one loving the other more) finally working things out. What a love story.

Harassedevictee · 18/05/2024 06:22

Pen loses weight in the books so it is sticking to the narrative.

I also think the dress styles from Seasons 1& 2 were deliberately unflattering with the very high over the bust empire (?) line hiding her figure. The season 3 dresses are far more flattering.

Loopytiles · 18/05/2024 06:33

She looks beautiful!

Enjoying and feeling sorry for Cressida. Would like her to marry Lord Debling, get pregnant, stay in town when he goes on his long trip (someone else can manage his estate) and be a Wendy-type in a group of mum friends!

You are bloody awful. What an awful post to make.

Bugger, wrong post. I meant to comment on the post about Nicola’s figure.

flyingwingsabove · 18/05/2024 07:57

I’ve just finished. Amazing sets, scenery and costumes. Loved it.
