Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

Sorry if I got the wrong word, but that is what I have seen many articles describing it as.

No I think you are right.

I think in one episode (unless I misunderstood/misheard) there was something said about Black people being in the Ton due to Queen Charlotte.

I think it confused me that if it was colour blind casting then there was no "explanation" needed iyswim.

Not sure I have put that very well.

That was in series 1. It annoyed me too, it felt like they should just have lived in a world where people of all races were able to achieve social standing throughout history. With the explanation of it only being since the current king married, it became jarring that there were older couples of different races. Surely that would have been very difficult before the current Queen and there wouldn't have been time for so many people to reach the upper echelons in that time. Much nicer to just live in a world without racism from the start.

Well I'm going to choose to believe Nicola Coughlan herself who said there was no such clause in her contract in an interview - one of her speaking as opposed to something reported in a newspaper.

Newgirls · 17/06/2024 21:59

I loved it! Particularly the featheringtons - the bugs, the bows, the money under the floorboards.

I was surprised Colin didnt step up after the big speech but then also sort of ok that it was her moment? Shame the modiste wasn’t there as her bestie.

I thought their chemistry was spot on for friends to lovers.

Lady Danbury and queen are excellent and lady Ds brother had a real twinkle.

Two years feels a very long time

@cathyandclaire I have no idea to be honest. Someone else mentioned her odd accent in Bridgerton, I was just saying even though she was born in Bristol I knew she'd been brought up in Co Durham (I'm from the same neck of the woods) so I would have thought she'd be more likely to have a North-East accent than a Bristol one. I don't think I've heard her speak in real life before so who knows.

MamaNewtNewt · 17/06/2024 23:15

Sorry just spotted the link you included. No I don't pick up any kind of accent, and definitely not a north-east accent. Maybe she's made it more neutral over the years or has been down south too long 😊

Who?

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 17/06/2024 19:26

Oh I loved her. She wasn't asked to do very much, that was sort of the point, but she did it very well.
I wasn't so convinced by "OMG I am shockingly attracted to random woman I've just met and am now bisexual!" at the end, but TBH I think even Judi Dench would have struggled with that.

Having read the spoiler about Michaela, what I noticed was Francesca's disappointed expression when her new husband kissed her. She was clearly expecting a lightning bolt of love or passion but felt nothing.

BruceAndNosh · 18/06/2024 00:03

The whole "who is lady whistlesdown" mystery was ridiculous. Several Featherington staff regularly spirit Pen to dodgy London areas peppered with printshops in the dead of night several times a week. Surely one of them would shop her for more money than they could earn in their lifetime.
Plus she and Colin left the ball separately on the "friends to fingering"night, got engaged, told only her family that evening yet Whistlesdown revealed the news in print the following morning. Kind of narrows down the source of gossip!

I thought that!

They must have know fairly soon after Whistledown started that it was one of the ton.

Harassedevictee · 18/06/2024 07:37

I agree the announcing the engagement in Lady Whistledown was ridiculous as it could only be Pen or the Bridgerton’s.

MeinKraft · 18/06/2024 09:51

Does anyone else feel a bit weird about Gregory and Hyacinth? I don't really want to see two actors I've watched as children doing all the raunchy stuff in future seasons Confused

I think a lot of this seasons problem has actually been the PR. It was built up way too much with the fans shipping Nicola and Luke and the actors encouraged this tbf. And all the talk about how raunchy this season would be. They could've done the interviews and said yes it's a friends to lovers story and theres a big whistledown element so a lot of the focus is on their relationship rather than just lust. The fans feel like they've been sold a pup because they were told to expect one thing and ended up with another.

Karmaisagod · 18/06/2024 12:18

@MeinKraft , I agree with the wrong PR focus. There is nothing wrong with the series if you accept the different focus. And I too had felt vaguely uncomfortable about Gregory and Hyacinth but couldn't put my finger on why, and you just articulated it perfectly, thank you.

BruceAndNosh · 18/06/2024 12:47

I wasn't sure about seeing baby faced Penelope getting it on either , but since I realised that the actress is in her 30s, it's ok!
They might well recast G and H with older actors!

I did like the Benedict / Eloise scene on the swings harking back to earlier seasons. But I just didn't buy B suddenly deciding that he likes men as well as women, when he went thru is Artist phase, he saw his friend kissing another man and showed no interest in experimenting then

TheHallmarkedMan · 18/06/2024 16:58

I think the actors (including the threesome crew) felt super pressurised to deliver "hotness" because of the two previous seasons.

I had to ff all the sex scenes apart from the carriage ride, especially the trouple scenes. Actually that final scene with Colin and Pen in bed was quite tender, but man those threesome scenes gave me the massive ick.

The previous pairings just set the bar way too high IMO.

Upinthenightagain · 18/06/2024 17:29

@TheHallmarkedMan I thought the final bed scene was a bit odd. All that media hype about her being naked and celebrating her body and then the final scene she was completely covered up in a massive dressing gown. I seriously doubt any of the thinner actresses in it would have done ‘woman on top’ with their dressing gowns on

I thought the same. And also she's the only lead to not get graphic scenes that focus exclusively on her pleasure. Perhaps this would have made sense with the Colin of previous seasons, who was supposedly sensitive and inexperienced. But the new Colin is supposed to be very experienced and also absolutely obsessed with her. Are we really supposed to believe that he wouldn't be pulling out all the moves? They didn't have to show it, but there's not even intimation of it. Let's hope it's because the actress wasn't into it (fair) and not because of an executive decision based on her body.

I haven’t seen anyone say that the liked the threesome scenes. Felt absolutely pointless.

LunaNorth · 18/06/2024 22:58

Interesting how everybody else cringed at the sex scenes. I thought I was gettIng prudish in my old age, but it seems it’s not me, it’s them.

My toes literally curled.

CornedBeef451 · 19/06/2024 09:59

I read the book recently so was looking forward to the carriage scene but actually found it so cringey I couldn't watch it!

I was most disturbed by the first time they had sex on the tiny sofa. It just didn't seem to make sense, I couldn't see how they could physically do it at that angle, she was almost sitting up and he was bent backwards, it just didn't seem like it would work.

Poor Pen, she deserved much better for her first time. Kate had a much better time with Anthony.

CatamaranViper · 19/06/2024 11:00

SPOILER FROM BOOK 5

How do you think they'll deal with the Earldom (?) of Kilmartin if there is no male heir to inherit? I've seen speculation online that Franny will have a son which keeps the title in their family, but then the whole infertility representation will be missing...

TheHallmarkedMan · 19/06/2024 11:49

I think I much prefer to read the sex scenes than watch them these days. I just cannot suspend my disbelief, and all those mouth noises 🙉

Karmaisagod · 19/06/2024 19:07

Did everyone think Kate was a virgin? I thought we were meant to surmise from something that was said, or hinted at, that she'd had sone experience back home with some boy or other.

I didn’t think she was which is why she didn’t want to marry Anthony just because they slept together. I also thought given her age it was implied she wasn’t.

Arraminta · 19/06/2024 21:12

I don't think she was either. She'd obviously led quite an independent life back in India and had no intention to marry so didn't have to worry about staying a virgin for a husband. I'd like to think that Anthony would have been too honourable to take her virginity?

diddl · 19/06/2024 22:05

I'm just reading the book & she's 20!
