Following on from the last thread.

We're currently up to where Roy has been arrested for (allegedly) killing Lauren, and Roy's dog has been stolen and the thieves are saying the dog won't be returned until Roy admits his guilt.

Leanne is being drawn into a weird cult.

Toyah is arrested for criminal damage for attacking someone's car. (Someone who thinks Roy buried Lauren in the park!) And she doesn't seem quite herself. What is wrong with her?

Joel and DeeDee are on-again-off-again ...

I'm sure there's a few more bits and bobs going on, but there's plenty of space on this thread (and time) to catch up. Smile

Roy out of prison scene reminded me of the railway children scene in a random way

Why did he have a phone in his room

I wasn’t concentrating properly when it was on. Do we know why Joel stabbed her?

JewelleryCat · 30/05/2024 23:47

Did he stab her? I didn’t see that, only hitting her over the head with the chair leg

bizzey · 30/05/2024 23:49

I didn't see any stabbing .
Just head hit against wall (?) and the chair leg .

WiddlinDiddlin · 31/05/2024 03:56

Joel swiped the necklace after murdering Lauren as it was one distinctive item that would be very out of place and traceable to him.
I think he's going to get cocky now and mess up, and I don't think he has any clue what a devious and sharp little bugger Herp Stape is...

Kit - I wonder if he knows of Nathan from the past, possibly before he was promoted and moved to Weatherfield, and wanted to stitch him up and Lauren is a good option here.

I bloody KNEW he'd planted that hair, Sarah was nowhere near enough for hair to have come off and into the van.

Roy had a phone as he was on remand, not technically a criminal until convicted, so they get better privileges...not all prisons have them and they are limited to a certain number of pre-set numbers, and calls are recorded.

abouttoturn50 · 31/05/2024 04:18

I love this thread! I've found it a few days ago and have been reading through. Never even crossed my mind it could be slimy Joel until this week! I really hope it gets found out soon though and doesn't get dragged on too much longer.

As already pointed out, the phone in Roy's cell being because he's on remand. And as far as the prison officers not entering the cell, that's protocol, they have to call in the National Tactical Reaponse Group (nationals) for any hostage situation. (DD is a prison officer)

AmusedMaker · 31/05/2024 07:50

A few of us suspected Joel for a while now.
always something dodgy about him.
Not sure what Kit’s up to but it’s definitely no good.
Nathan was always a red herring, & a fairly obvious one too.

Wow. Thank goodness for those with a good memory. I wonder if that was purely coincidental, because he was "duty solicitor" then, and was also "duty solicitor" for Nathan.

DeeDee sounded incredulous at the police station that Lauren had been assigned the duty solicitor, so maybe Joel really was duty that day/night?

Lorrymum · 31/05/2024 08:59

I hope the "big reveal" that it was Joel doesn't drag on for months.

TidyDancer · 31/05/2024 09:04

The Bethany actress was saying on tv the other day that she was told before she returned roughly what the storyline was and then given further information at the start of this year so looks like it was on the cards from way back.

I think Dee-Dee is going to sniff him out

Hewp will mention a necklace, she will twig the punctuation and if Sarah-Lou gets sloshed and mentions the scrunchie it will unravel

ColBoulter · 31/05/2024 09:19

Do we think Kit is part of Joel's gang?

There has to be a motive for framing Nathan?
Or
Has Joel got something on him, a previous mistake or act that could screw up his career in the Plod?
Drugs?
Theft?
Presumably they could have known each other if Joel is frequently Duty solicitor?

lollipoprainbow · 31/05/2024 09:19

Why did Joel attack/kill Lauren ? Was she blackmailing him ?

Shellingbynight · 31/05/2024 09:22

@DerekFaker thanks for the link. I had never seen that scene, I often miss entire weeks at a time (deliberately!)

I think the PP was right, this is going to be strung out as long as the Steven storyline. I'll follow on here but I doubt I'll watch much.

eggandonion · 31/05/2024 09:47

Would Joel be duty solicitor at all the police stations? Kit has come from somewhere else.
Hope and chess boy whose name I forget will sort things surely.

Sam? Haha, love his nickname of chess boy though - sounds like a superhero sidekick!

KeepSmiling89 · 31/05/2024 10:13

Would also love to see Hope expose Joel re. the necklace.
Desperate to see what he did with Lauren's body and the backstory of everything - why he did it etc...
Definitely think Kit has something to do with it as well - seemed like a team effort to get Nathan behind bars.

ThatBeverleyMacca · 31/05/2024 11:37

It sounded like the duty solicitor wasn’t who they were expecting though (or at least who Kit was pretending to not be expecting)- didn’t DS Swain ring Kit saying something like “It’s not who we were expecting and I don’t think you’ll be able to win him round with a custard horn” when he was getting coffee and cakes? Or have I totally misinterpreted that (very possible)?

Bagpuss2022 · 31/05/2024 12:51

I don’t think Kit has anything to do with it just wanted to be the one to get the arrest to crack the case.
i really hope we find out WHY Joel attacked Lauren and I do wonder if she’s still alive and being held captive

Roryhon · 31/05/2024 13:08

Kit just seems keen to win points and get on, he doesn’t seem impressed with how Weatherfield police operate. Can’t think why!

As for Deedee sniffing things out, I’m not sure she’d sniff out dogshite on her shoe if she was tromping it round her own living room. She’s given Joel too many chances already that she shouldn’t have.

bizzey · 31/05/2024 13:39

Does Evelyn know about the significance of the necklace ?

I mean ...does she know about Roy drawing it and knowing there was a link to it ?

I wonder if she will overhear a sisterly squabble between H&R and question more on what Hope is so proud of doing..IE ...giving the necklace back to Joel ? 🤔🤔..

I think Evelyn is going to turn into our very own Miss Marple!

NCTDN · 31/05/2024 13:45

I agree that Evelyn will work it out

Shellingbynight · 31/05/2024 13:51

I doubt DeeDee will be particularly interested in the case now, given her client's no longer a suspect. She wouldn't have any particular reason to think Nathan didn't do it unless a piece of evidence smacks her in the face (like the necklace, which you would think Joel would now put down the nearest drain).

DeeDee is one of the few characters I like, but this storyline isn't doing her any favours.🙁

I assumed that Kit was just one of those 'mavericks who bend the rules to get the right result'. There was no reason for him to get involved to protect e.g. Joel because the Wethy cops had already charged Roy. It seemed like Kit was doing it for the personal glory, and really believed Nathan dunnit.

It's an odd turn of events. Are we supposed to care about Evil Nathan's wrongful arrest because someone even more evil is getting away with it? When Joel is finally found out, should we be pleased Nathan is released? I just don't care!

I hope so. I love her. When she first came in there was sniffs of her being fake grandma and on the take but I wonder that she was such a hit with the viewers that they changed the storyline.
