Couldn't see a new thread.

I have no idea who they are apart from the fella from League of Gentleman.

What do the others do?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 28/03/2024 21:51

Not a clue who they are.

i am, however, crying at Sophie in the river...

Puppupandaway · 28/03/2024 21:55

Nick is from Ted Lasso. Sophie Willan wrote and starred in Alma's Not Normal, which is fantastic! Highly recommend.

SoupDragon · 28/03/2024 21:57

Even though I have no clue who they are (other than Steve) I like them all a lot. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Umanresources · 28/03/2024 22:37

I knew all of them. Sophie had us all crying laughing at the river and painting tasks. I loved Alma, looking forward to watching her second series. I saw Joanne on Alan Davies “As yet Untitled”, which is good for showcasing new, as well as established comedians. I loved Steve’s story with the Egbert Nobacon cowboy. 😂i prefer Nick as himself, rather than his character Mr Swallow.

OiGetOff · 28/03/2024 22:56

This is a great line up.

Steve was my favourite going into it, just from prior knowledge, but also reinforced tonight. I know of all the others too.

Sophie and Joanne especially look like they’ll be great value.

TulipTuesday · 28/03/2024 23:04

That was a brilliant first episode!
I loved Alma’s Not Normal so was really pleased to see Sophie in this.
I laughed so much at the her in the river. It was one of those moments that shouldn’t really have been as funny as it was, but I was howling

PickAChew · 28/03/2024 23:11

Nick has also been in the latest chicken run movie and has a character, Mr Swallow, who is incredibly annoying but does some apparently rather clever tricks - he's appeared as Mr Swallow on Cats Does Countdown a couple of times.

OiGetOff · 29/03/2024 09:23

I think I’m going to do a rewatch today, on a lazy Good Friday morning.

Looking forward to seeing how John’s notorious competitiveness plays out, especially paired with Sophie 😬. Sophie looks to be such a fun contestant, she’ll probably have quite a few classic moments. Nick and Joanne are definitely embracing the vibe, really like them on first impressions.

But I’m such a fan of Steve, it’ll take a lot to sway me from rooting for him.

IPartridge · 29/03/2024 13:39

I think Sophie and Steve are going to be my favourites. Steve has a great imagination and I like Sophie's confused but enthusiastic approach. Doesn't feel like it's going to be a classic series though.

Nick has potential for getting on my nerves

IPartridge · 29/03/2024 13:40

The Mr Swallow bit that Nick did at the Baftas was embarrassingly bad

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/03/2024 13:42

Steve is very clever and I loved Sophie after seeing Alma's Not Normal. I don't know anything about the others.

God yes, it was dire but he was excellent in that character on Backstage with Katherine Ryan.
Loved Nate on season 1 of Ted Lasso but not the other seasons.
The series on Sky with David Schwimmer was okay.
He seems quite unassuming on this albeit there's really no need to be dressed as a vampire. It's a bit try hard. I blame Bridget Christie for the dress-up shenanigans. And Daisy May Cooper.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2024 21:08

Bats!
Calculator haiku!

😂😂

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/04/2024 21:28

Loving the green screen thing. Steve Pemberton is very clever.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2024 21:29

Except I now want pancakes....

SoupDragon · 04/04/2024 21:44

Does the board have to remain upright...? 🤔

FourLeggedBuckers · 04/04/2024 23:26

Sniggers at Nick being try-hard with his costume, having heard Jon talking about how much he spent on his jacket(s) on the Taskmaster podcast 😂 he was a bit pissed that Nick had a budget vampire costume and still upstaged his look.

They’re an interesting bunch and the first episode was such a strong start to the series. I love Steve.

Umanresources · 04/04/2024 23:55

Until I listened to the podcast I hadn’t realised John was wearing a Freddie Mercury outfit. I thought it was a ringmaster outfit, but yellow, instead of red!
I didn’t laugh out loud as much this week, apart from the green screen task.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/04/2024 07:35

Steve's green screen was so clever but the other one was bonkers and much funnier.

I realised it was a Freddy Mercury jacket.

SoupDragon · 05/04/2024 08:42

I thought the stage task was quite weak this week. Funnier when they used the last 3 letters but not as good as other live tasks.

IPartridge · 05/04/2024 20:52

I was expecting better from the green screen task - not as good as some of the sketch type tasks from previous series.

I'm finding John hard to warm to, at times he looks bored or even a bit angry. Although I thought he looks a bit unwell in the studio.

IPartridge · 05/04/2024 20:55

I didn't really like the studio task, they could have done it with a box of dressing up stuff and props? Or maybe that's copying another show.

Umanresources · 05/04/2024 22:03

I’ve not really taken to John either, but I don’t really know why. He did say on the podcast that he would be looking for clues under tables etc, which is why he found the grabber under the boxing glove.
This week Steve was on the podcast and he made me laugh when he said that he’d seen a previous Taskmaster where they had to find a grape, so he had one in his pocket, throughout the filming, just in case it ever turned up again. 😂

Fair point but didn't he end up splurging the budget on a replica jacket when he already has one? I assume you mean his Freddie jacket? Just why? Why does he need two of them?

Blueemeraldagain · 05/04/2024 22:36

Production will need at least two of each outfit incase one gets lost or damaged.
