Couldn't see a new thread.

I have no idea who they are apart from the fella from League of Gentleman.

What do the others do?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 29/05/2024 11:12

From what I've gathered from people on these threads who've been to see the live part, they have to edit out a lot of the banter to keep the programme within the hour slot. Or to make it acceptable for broadcast!

OiGetOff · 29/05/2024 12:24

I randomly revisited series 2 last night - it was so much more fun. The studio banter / arguing is top notch, especially from Richard Osman and Jon Richardson. Actually no, all of them.

Possibly also helped by Joe W being fully ‘in character’ all series, and episode 1 containing THAT potato throwing moment.

And @banivani - the task with the Swedish guy still makes me laugh!

Umanresources · 29/05/2024 13:27

We regularly revisit the earlier series’, but it makes me feel slightly uncomfortable at how close together they are sitting! I was never particularly a Joe Wilkinson fan, only having seen him on Cats does Countdown, but I enjoyed him on there. (I even enjoyed the Cockfields as well.)
Everything was very new and when the hidden clues were revealed, it came as a surprise, as did the secret tasks. Now, some contestants are already looking for clues. The only thing I found funny about John was when he couldn’t find the task and it was in his pocket, it was like Tim Vine losing the hook when it had got caught in his costume. I’m bored with John winning almost every week, or is it every week?
There are a few stand out parts of tasks for me. One of the funniest ones was the Bridget Christie one, where she was trying to get the pedometer to work and Greg asked her if she had ever walked before. We were crying laughing 😂

Ah lovely Fred the Swede.

Trying not to show his annoyance when Katherine Ryan phoned her Danish friend as it was ' close enough'.

She did get it right though, even lingonberries.

banivani · 29/05/2024 15:48

Well, lingon are lingon. ;) We differ on more stupid words, like "rolig" in Danish and Norwegian means "calm", while it's morphed in Swedish to mean "fun".

The Swedish version has an Icelandic fireman. It's actually hilarious, we don't have a clue how to decipher Icelandic. Very good. This last season the producers didn't know that one of the contestant's father was Icelandic - genuinely caught them by surprise which was also very funny.

I get why they'd have to cut out inappropriateness but I watch the outtakes on Youtube and IMO there's some good stuff there they should have kept in!

Series 2 was very good. Everybody really went for it creatively as well, like the nursery rhymes.

murasaki · 29/05/2024 15:50

The nursery rhymes were great. Doc Brown's is a favourite in this house, and Jon Richardson's, but they were all great.

WTF1974 · 29/05/2024 18:08

I did ask earlier but didn't see any response so I'm hoping the MN sleuths can help.

Does anyone know where Sophie's jumpsuit/dungarees are from please ?

Suggested on Instagram that they're these (available in various colours)

Edited

Thank you

They are the ones!

Now ordered Smile

IPartridge · 30/05/2024 21:01

Here we go...

SoupDragon · 30/05/2024 22:03

Presumably the scoring was rigged so that Nock's guess was right. I assume he moved after Greg guessed his location in the last task.

Nick's a legit stage magician so I'd hope he'd have done something a bit cleverer than that.

IPartridge · 30/05/2024 22:58

I would be very surprised if they rigged the result.

So we can now discuss the next series contestants. Rosie Jones not a popular choice for many. I think she seems a nice enough person but I don't find her funny.

I will still watch.

Ok, now it's out there I can say that from the recording I went to Rosie stole the show. I am not a fan of hers by any stretch and when the contestants were announced my eyes rolled so far into the back of my head but she was great and I have a new found respect for her as a comedian. She was taking the piss out of herself and so was Greg. I'm going to watch it and if I hadn't been to the recording I'm not sure I would have.

ViscountessMelbourne · 31/05/2024 00:16

Andy Zaltzman is so clever and funny. Cricket obsessive, hence the costume: he does the stats on Test Match Special, but I'm assuming that he's a complete physical klutz. Really excited to see how he does.

Umanresources · 31/05/2024 00:18

I’m pleased Sophie won at least one episode. Listening to the podcast last week Kiell said that his series had done the “bleeping” task, but it obviously wasn’t shown. I know they do film more tasks than they use, and they are shown out of order. I wonder how many extra tasks they film and if they tweak them for other series? I don’t think I’ve ever heard how many they film altogether.
I’ve enjoyed this series, but not as much as I thought I would.
I’m looking forward to the next series now, with a few reservations. I think Jack Dee has been on Alex’s wish list for a long time.

That's good to hear!

Back to last night, I really enjoyed the game show task. Sophie and her musical accompaniment 😆 and Steve's idea was so funny, and the characters. How he came up with it so quickly is amazing.

Chrysanthemum5 · 31/05/2024 08:34

With the next contestants I don't really know them except jack dee and Rosie Jones but often it's the ones I don't know that I end up loving. So I'm looking forward to to.

Jack Dee I wonder if his miserable man thing is just a persona or really him? Rosie jones I don't love her comedy but she seems an intelligent and creative person and I think will approach tasks in interesting ways.

SoupDragon · 31/05/2024 09:11

Like what though? Obviously it's all trickery but I can't see any other way of fixing the end score to match the one he wrote.

I would be very surprised if they rigged the result.

Ordinarily, yes, but he was absolutely going to come last so it wouldn't matter what actual score he got.

Umanresources · 31/05/2024 13:10

I’ve seen Rosie Jones in a couple of acting roles, one comedy and one drama and I thought she was really good in those. Her loud personality was reined in and I think it’s the loudness that grates on me, I’m not a fan of shouty comedians like Iain Stirling or Aisling Bea.
Jack Dee was his ‘miserable’ self in Celebrity Big Brother years ago, so I think he can keep it up on Taskmaster. I’m looking forward to seeing his attempts at the tasks though.
The others I don’t really know although I watched Starstruck and don’t remember Emma Sidi, but I’m looking forward to seeing how they all do.
I don’t think there would be anyone who would actually stop me from watching the programme, but there are probably a couple who would make me ff through it.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 31/05/2024 16:05

I've only heard of the obviously more famous two (JD and RJ) of the next series and look forward to watching it with an open mind. I didn't actively dislike anyone in the 17th series and no-one grated on me, there were no over-argumentative major bull-shitters to my mind.

As I have a hearing impairment I have the subtitles on permanently so hopefully will be able to follow what people are saying.

FourLeggedBuckers · 31/05/2024 21:55

I like Rosie so I’m happy to see her in the line up. It looks like it’ll be another good series.

Was there only one paper in the envelope?

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/06/2024 13:13

Just catching up. Only realised it was the final when I switched it on.

It got on my wick a bit tonight. John 'bringing in' Kathy Burke to save the human race? WTF?

I think contestants are being very Try Hard now.

Agree with PP about Jack Dee. His persona is pretty much him. He was definitely miserable all the way through BB.

CwmYoy · 01/06/2024 14:41

I love Jack but I have to turn off Rosie ever since her disgusting remarks about Greta. No apology when taken to task about sexual remarks about a child. As Greta was then.

A very arrogant woman.
