Couldn't see a new thread.

I have no idea who they are apart from the fella from League of Gentleman.

What do the others do?

OP posts:

Yeah I recognised Nick from stand up and Steve from inside number 9.

I guess it's good they are giving prime time slots to less well known comedians

I’ve not really taken to John either, but I don’t really know why. He did say on the podcast that he would be looking for clues under tables etc, which is why he found the grabber under the boxing glove.
This week Steve was on the podcast and he made me laugh when he said that he’d seen a previous Taskmaster where they had to find a grape, so he had one in his pocket, throughout the filming, just in case it ever turned up again. 😂

I had quite taken to him - he has a Peter Serafinowicz vibe/young Peter Capaldi look about him but then

a) I realised his voice reminded me of Jeremy Vine

b) I saw his Fringe awarded stand-up Darkness of Robins and realised why Sara Pascoe left him

So no.
At this stage I'll be happy for Joanne to win it.

Production will need at least two of each outfit incase one gets lost or damaged.

They'd be doing him a favour. Wink

timetorefresh · 05/04/2024 23:06

Every time I see Nick I just think of Mr Swallow's Jurassic Park song. Def worth a Google :)

AlbanyNY · 06/04/2024 00:08

It's a fantastic first couple of episodes.

I saw Nick as Mr Swallow last year and LOVED it, so, so clever.

Love Alma's not Normal.

Steve Pemberton is hugely talented.

Enjoying seeing Joanne.

Listened to John on the podcast and sadly found him really quite unlikeable - I too only noticed the jacket once he'd mentioned it!

Twonewcats · 06/04/2024 01:17

Why's there no love for John? I dont know much about him but dont mind him on this.

Their clothes get wet/gunked etc regularly, and for continuity they prob have a handful of the same outfit

I'd never heard of him before. He seems pretty bland really. I've no opinions either way yet.

SoupDragon · 06/04/2024 08:48

I've never heard of him either. I like him in this.

i also like his jacket 😂

Toadonaroll · 06/04/2024 09:52

John is on the Ellis and John show/podcasts on radio 5 Friday afternoons, I find them really funny and quirky. And he's a stand up.

yeah, I've seen him on Mock The Week etc, and knew his show won an award. I find him quite funny. I dont know if he's neurodiverse or not, but he has a lot of "quirks" that remind me a lot of my ND son

I didn't mind him on the show but in the podcast he came across a bit differently.

OiGetOff · 06/04/2024 10:21

John is a very intense character. I don’t think there’s any ND but he’s 17 months-ish sober from a very real alcohol problem, and I think was still in the thick of clawing back during filming.

I also think he’s wanted to be on TM for so long, there are some real nerves at play in the studio. But his very good friend Little Alex Horne held off, until sobriety. On the podcast, nerves are gone and he seems back to his true intense, very honest self.

Bit deep for a TM thread!

I’m still Team Steve, but my god Sophie winning would be EPIC. I love what she brings to this. Nick is also quite loveable, isn’t he. And Joanne is my kinda gal. Ooh I can’t decide!

IPartridge · 06/04/2024 11:20

It was nice to see a return of Patatas the cat. 😄

lemongrizzled · 06/04/2024 11:24

The studio task seemed unfair this week - they should have only had one person guessing on each team.

I thought so too.

I like John, but I’m very much Team Steve.

Nick is strangely adorable, and Sophie is hilarious. They’re all great characters, I like Joanne too - I don’t think I’ve ever universally liked the whole line up before!

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 06/04/2024 12:00

Oops, late to the party.

TheIcecreamManCometh · 11/04/2024 22:47

Not so keen on tonight's tasks.
It kind of feels like it's all been done.
Guess you were being followed by Mr Blobby (in 2024?!)
Don't spill a baby (John's been looking for loopholes throughout)
Create a moment of tension (all crap bar Steve)
Catch some monsters.

Just finding it all a bit samey now.
Whinge over.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 11/04/2024 22:56

This series is just ok, none of them are funny enough outside of the laughs designed into the tasks. There has been the odd series like this before.

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 12/04/2024 00:20

Yeah, I'm not loving this series yet. I did enjoy the Mr Blobby task though and I thought the baby task was clever. I want John Robbins to win, I'm on his wavelength with the logical thinking. I said to DP before the tension task that tension mean the physics approach and the baby carrier could be taken off. But it is all a bit flat.

Umanresources · 12/04/2024 00:46

I didn’t think this week was a strong one. I feel as though John is working out every angle because he’s watched past programmes and working out loopholes, looking round for extra clues under tables etc. I just find him a bit smug. I hope the series gets better because I like the rest of the people.
Lou Sanders is on the Taskmaster podcast so I won’t be listening to that one this week. She finds herself very amusing.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/04/2024 08:34

Although Steve Pemberton is very clever and his scenes, like the tension one and the green screen, are very accomplished it's been his actual job for years so he doesn't do the bonkers, bizarre stuff which is what the show is all about really.

IPartridge · 12/04/2024 09:16

Yeah, agree it's not a great series.

I don't think it's a great selection of contestants, they're nice people but it works best with a bit of the silly/weird/loud/competitive/argumentative.

Sophie is a bit quirky, but not enough to be very imaginative or funny - her approach to the tension task was similar to the egg task. Steve and Nick are just nice people being nice. John is trying to find hacks, but he's not coming across as overly competitive. Joanne is the best value contestant so far.

Agree about how John is coming across. Bit try hard. Have some fun, man.

And I’ll be swerving the pod this week as well then if it’s Lou Sanders. She does indeed find herself absolutely hilarious, whereas I really don’t. I have to admit to being deliciously happy at how much the voting public didn’t like her either on Dancing on Ice. Bit mean possibly, but she seems to have a very high opinion of herself, so 🤷‍♀️.

Still Team Steve!

Twonewcats · 12/04/2024 12:14

Lou always looks like she needs a good wash 😬
