This is what I said last week in the old thread:

I'd love a happy ending to Charlie's story like him and Josh going travelling into the sunset, but unfortunately I think there is only one way now for him.

I wasn't too far off in the end!

How did they have the time to have a whip-round and go and buy him a car given that he seemed to decide to retire and then left not too soon afterwards?

UsernameChangerRanger · 16/03/2024 22:23

New thread, no Charlie, what next for Holby?

AnImaginaryCat · 16/03/2024 22:26

I think there was supposed to be a good bit of time between Charlie being stabbed and his retirement. Charlie mentioned Harry's funeral - so that's a few weeks at least.

I am so confused.

One minute he was on a knife edge and the next minute in the thick of a retirement party. Was it a dream / fantasy sequence?

Agree weeks must have passed in between him waking up to find Josh, when Stevie visited and collecting his box,

daffodilandtulip · 16/03/2024 22:29

How many weeks till he's back?

FourLeggedBuckers · 16/03/2024 22:30

The time frame of that episode was baffling. Between the flashbacks and the leaps forward at the end - from resus to post-theatre with Josh, to being in his pjs with Stevie, to leaving the ED, it was all a bit trippy.

I maintain I have no faith he won’t crop up in a series or two, and put us through the drama again, but it was a nice episode. And I’m a cold-hearted bastard…

My prediction- September 2026 for the 40th anniversary!

Oh yes, I think that could happen!!

I liked the Stevie/Charlie twist too. Shirley was also fabulous. I will miss Charlie.

Glad that Zoe and Max are still together and would love for them to return!

AnImaginaryCat · 16/03/2024 22:45

Was Rash there?

Did he leave and I've forgotten?

OP posts:
Lookingatthesunset · 16/03/2024 22:49

No, he wasn't there, but I don't think he's left. Maybe on compassionate leave after losing his dad? Has he worked since? I can't remember.

bizzey · 16/03/2024 22:51

Ahhh !
I really enjoyed that ...worth waiting for !

I didn't/forgot the significance of the leaf that Dylan gave him .

Shame it was only Josh and Zoe that came back .
Would have been nice to have Sen some more old faces .
Even if they didn't have much of a role ...just a few words and a hug .

Yes, I thought they could have brought back more 'oldies'. Was good to see Josh though.

I thought they could have brought Connie back. I think Amanda Mealing said she would have done it but she wasn't asked.

spiderlight · 16/03/2024 22:55

I was going to ask about Dylan's leaf as well. Didn't ring a bell at all.

NameChangeAgain0224 · 16/03/2024 22:56

Am I the only one who thought that was a total anti-climax?! I wanted some drama but it was so dull. I skipped through all the ‘young Charlie’ stuff after watching a few scenes.

I didn’t want Charlie to have a horrible death but I definitely thought the writers would come up with something better than this.

Aah well. Let’s see what the next series brings…..

Optimist1 · 16/03/2024 22:58

I seem to remember the leaf came from the very tree that Hippocrates was sitting under when he was formulating his Oath.

WhatICallMyUsername · 16/03/2024 22:59

I don't want to be pedantic here but when Dylan said 37 years is that supposed to be how long he's been working?! He looked early 20s in the flashbacks so is he supposed to be 60 odd now? The 37 years would tie in nicely with Stevie being early 40s though!!

WhatICallMyUsername · 16/03/2024 23:00

I actually thought he might die in the chair after announcing his retirement like the nurse in the flashbacks

bizzey · 16/03/2024 23:01

Who would we have liked to have made an appearance?

I thought Connie definitely..

Then I was struggling 😅

Maybe..

Ash
Henrik
Eve
Elle

DAVID !

Who else ???

FourLeggedBuckers · 16/03/2024 23:03

Charlie acquired the leaf in Cyprus from a tree under which (or a similar tree - I’m not expert on tree ages!) Hippocrates would have taught his students.

He then gave it Dylan, although I can’t remember what provoked it, because it was symbolic of the whole Hippocratic oath / “why we’re devoting our lives to this chaos” theme of Casualty.

I remember the scene in which Charlie gave it to Dylan, but not clearly enough to explain it well!

bizzey · 16/03/2024 23:04

Collette 😘

Nudgethatjudge · 16/03/2024 23:05

That was disappointing.
Made DP watching on the premise of it being Charlie's last ever (maybe) episode.

Boring.... I didnt even feel.tearful.

He has - there was some tension between him and Rida in a recent episode. I recall him being off with her, and her being upset, and then Cam appearing behind her with a benign platitude, as seems to be his main role in the show.
