Did anyone else notice that when BabyCharlie was being looked after by Sonia she was as calm as a sloth even though the sound effects was a raging hollaring infant GrinAnd when Sonia accidently switched on Bargain Hunt that "baby" was an obvious fakey-baby .

My DD when she was a tiny baby LOVED Robert Kilroy Silk . If I sat her in her loungey chair she'd gurgle away then when RKS spoke she stopped and leaned towards the TV listening intently .
Can I just add the disclaimer she grew out of it and now not in the least bit swayed by a Posh/Brummie accent Xmas Wink

I admit that one of my ' besties ' is nearly 71 and I'm 13 years younger , but I agree that Sonia's age gap and her friends is unrealistic !
However , EE soap rules mean that you only hang out with your relatives/ distant relatives or whatever and people who live on the square.
Having friends outside this 'bubble 'is a rare thing. (Unless they want to write you out and you are banished to Milton Keynes )

Sonia needs friends more her own age. The only ones vaguely suitable are Linda and Honey, or are they both a bit older?

Sonia’s whining though must put people off. What on earth was she wearing when looking after baby Charli? She’s morphing into Dot in more ways than one. Don’t get me started on Reiss either. What does she see in him?

Eastie77Returns · 08/03/2024 13:44

I can’t work out how old Linda is supposed to be given that she has children ranging from their mid 30s to however old Annie is. I guess late 40s. Then again, women on Albert Square have no trouble conceiving well into their 50s so who knows.

Sonia is the one of the least interesting characters in the history of EE so I can’t imagine any of the potential candidates for her friendship group (Honey, Chelsea, Kim etc) would give her the time of day. I suppose in that’s sense it’s realistic that she is hanging out with pensioners.

the80sweregreat · 08/03/2024 13:49

I always thought that Linda and Mick had Lee ( the eldest Carter) very young ( possibly 15 or 16?)
I remember when they came into the show people were skeptical about the ages of Lee Johnny and Nancy in comparison to their parents , but it was generally accepted that they were just teenager parents and had tiny age gaps between each child.

That made me laugh.

I think Sonja was considered quite the intelligent one originally but then in comparison to Robbie and Bianca........who wouldn't.

Bex didn't get her brains from Martin (who has gone AWOL recently or has he popped to Australia for a little holiday - and why not - the market stall obviously pays well).

Honey and Kim wouldn't be as clever as our Sonja, the wonder nurse, so she wouldn't hang out with them. She frequently becomes exasperated with Kim and makes faces to show her superiority. I'm not sure what age Chelsea is supposed to be. Thirty maybe? But they couldn't be any different. She could be friends with Lauren who is very dull too but they're aunt/niece........maybe that is why they are alike 😀

NoisyBrain · 08/03/2024 14:30

Sonia and Lauren are cousins aren't they? Max is Lauren's Dad and his sister Carol is Sonia's Mum.

Also, I now have "Soniaaa the Wonder Nurse" playing in my head to the tune of Champion the Wonder Horse (showing my age 😂)

Eastie77Returns · 08/03/2024 14:49

I’d forgotten about Martin and his extended stay in Australia. Yes, he must be minted since he can afford so much time off. Is Shrimpy minding the stall😂

Where is Bex supposed to be? She went travelling and hasn’t been mentioned since.

StickNMove · 08/03/2024 15:33

Bex is like Libby, Nancy and all the other adult children who no longer give two shits about their parents back in the Square.

Reiss is such a pointless character. Why does he exist?

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 08/03/2024 16:07

Yes they are cousins. I forgot.

howdyho · 09/03/2024 07:25

Loved 'Champion the Wonder Horse'!😄
I'd forgotten all about Martin, haven't missed him at all.
And Reiss, supposed to be a harmless, comedy character? But he's not funny.

I don't remember Zac cracking on to Penny. Did I miss an episode???

It was Penny. Putting her hand on his in the Vic and inviting him home afterwards. He was going to go but Lauren stopped them. Later when sitting on the bench, Lauren said to Zac thst he was about to go home with Penny and tried to kiss her so she should tell Whitney.

justtidying · 09/03/2024 12:07

I think I missed an episode.

It was so dull this week...

the80sweregreat · 09/03/2024 12:31

Zac was always the player , so his antics this week didn't surprise me at all. Sad to say

I probably confused you when I said -

"Lauren said to Zac that he was about to go home with Penny and tried to kiss her so she should tell Whitney"

I should have written

"Lauren said to Zat that he was about to go home with Penny and because he then tried to kiss her ie Lauren, that she ie Lauren should tell Whitney.

What does Lauren 'do' for work? She arrived with her son and doesn't seem to work other than mind Louis? Understandable when she arrived but she's been there a while now. Penny doesn't have a job either other than now working on Whitney's stall? I seem to remember Lauren working in the 'city' making deals about chicken shops back in the day?

usernother · 11/03/2024 10:24

Just watched tonight's episode. I feel sorry for Gloria. She loves George as her son.

Southeastdweller · 11/03/2024 11:42

Yes, I felt sorry for her too, especially when George called her 'Gloria'. I can't remember if it's been mentioned in this thread or the other one, but has there been some hint she's been physically abused by Eddie?

Eddie is such a nasty piece of work, probably a narcissist.

OP posts:
Viewer23 · 11/03/2024 14:15

I actually feel no sympathy for Gloria at all, I see her and Eddie as kidnappers. She asked Eddie to do whatever it took to get rid of George’s dad and was well aware that this might result in his death, knowing the kind of husband she had.

Southeastdweller · 11/03/2024 16:15

I get the impression she's frightened by Eddie.
