Hi, I've been watching some old episodes this week before the new series starts tomorrow night. What's everyone's favourites? I know there's so many. I watched Sardines last night I love that one think it's so funny and clever poor Stinky John. And Wuthering Heist, really clever writing and twists. I think the only one I wasn't pushed on was the Devil of Christmas.

OP posts:

12 days of Christine is my favourite.

Pallisers · 26/04/2023 21:58

I started watching this because of a thread on here (thank you whoever you were) I love it. I thought A Quiet Night In was brilliant but Zanzibar was just fantastic - pure showing off by everyone :) I showed it to dh and dd (doing english lit in university) and they were also blown away. I've only just started series 4 so I have so many to look forward to.

CassTheFox · 26/04/2023 22:13

Lots of favourites.. I really enjoyed “Misdirection” in series 5, which isn’t often mentioned..

Was completely traumatised by Wise Owl though 🙈

chosenone · 26/04/2023 22:15

The one with the professor and the cryptic words is fab! I also like the one on the sleeper train and my favourite the author with the obsessed fan 👌 sorry I don’t know the titles

GwenogJones · 26/04/2023 22:16

I do have a soft spot for Sardines, I think 12 days of Christine is probably the best, but I think the one about the man going crazy over the missing shoe is just as tragic and then the one with Jenna Coleman in - with the ghosts - is great fun and the one set in the 1600s with the witch trial.

Every series they seemed to do a scary one which was always terrifying - and I both liked and didn't like them.

MrsBobBlackadder · 26/04/2023 22:18

12 Days of Christine - it's an absolutely amazing piece of TV (heartbreaking though!)

pinkchampagne1 · 26/04/2023 22:19

I started watching g them after reading the thread on here too.
My favourites so far are 12 days of Christine, the harrowing, sardines and death be not proud.
I didn’t enjoy the one about the breath in the balloon. I found it weaker than the others and pretty boring.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 26/04/2023 22:22

The 12 Days of Christine 💔
A quiet night in
Diddle diddle dumpling

titchy · 26/04/2023 22:26

You've got two threads OP!

Quiet night in and 12 days of Christine.

The one in Iambic pentameter was really clever as well.

Big fan of theirs - LoG brilliant!

12 days of Christine is my favourite.

It has to be this one, no hesitation. Though I love a lot of others too.

RegainingTheWill2023 · 26/04/2023 22:42

Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room
One Step Removed (where the story's told backwards)
Diddle Diddle Dumpling

Yuasa · 26/04/2023 22:47

La Couchette
Empty Orchestra
The Bill
Zanzibar

pinkchampagne1 · 26/04/2023 22:49

I have Wise Owl recorded. Is it a bit disturbing? 😐

pollypile · 26/04/2023 22:52

Bernie Clifton
The Bill
Zanzibar (so clever it left me speechless)

They are all good, some are just more memorable than others.

RaininginDarling · 26/04/2023 22:55

Christine
Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room
A Quiet Night In

I find each series a bit hit and miss and they seem to get more hit and missier for me as they go on.

But those three episodes are just exquisite pieces of television. Moving, funny, and surprising.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 26/04/2023 23:03

Cold Comfort was good
The one with the cleaner in the basement and the one told backwards in short clips - can't remember what they were called!

QueenOfDuisburg · 26/04/2023 23:25

Diddle Diddle Dumpling and Christine are probably my all time favourites, but I love them all. In fact, now I've seen this thread I keep remembering snippets of lots of my favourite ones. Makes me want to watch them all... again.

pinkchampagne1 · 27/04/2023 07:23

I haven’t watched Diddle Diddle Dumpling yet. Is that the one with the shoe?
I have that, Cold Comfort, Wise Owl and Mr King all downloaded to watch.

Yes it's the one with the shoe.
I think it's incredible how Steve Pemberton and Reece Sheersmith can convey really complex ideas in such short pieces as you'll see in some the ones you've downloaded.
Others don't have deep meaning but are are so gloriously constructed that you're wowed by the genius of the writing. Like One Strp Removed. So clever!
And what's great about it is that the episodes are so varied and individual that there's scope for likes/dislikes preferences and favourites. As you see from threads like this.

pinkchampagne1 · 27/04/2023 16:36

I hadn’t heard of Inside no 9 until I spotted the thread on MN. I used to like Tales of The Unexpected so thought I would give them a go.
I have really enjoyed most of the ones I have watched & never see the twist coming.

MalcolmTuckersBollockingface · 27/04/2023 16:59

I have so many favourites but the ones I regularly rewatch are:

Hotel Zanzibar
Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room
Love's Great Adventure

MalcolmTuckersBollockingface · 27/04/2023 17:00

Oh and Elizabeth Gadge.

REP22 · 27/04/2023 17:07

12 Days of Christine has stayed with me for a very long while.

Quite liked the one with the football referees too.

pinkchampagne1 · 27/04/2023 21:07

I have just watched cold comfort. Didn’t see that ending coming!

MaudGone · 27/04/2023 21:32

Empty Orchestra
