Hi, I've been watching some old episodes this week before the new series starts tomorrow night. What's everyone's favourites? I know there's so many. I watched Sardines last night I love that one think it's so funny and clever poor Stinky John. And Wuthering Heist, really clever writing and twists. I think the only one I wasn't pushed on was the Devil of Christmas.

Love's Great Adventure (the number 9 being the door of an advent calendar) was another one that I particularly enjoyed. Excellent story, well put together.

just watched this. Incredibly moving.

I agree that Thursdays episode wasn’t great. Still enjoyable but no where near the top if they were all ranked. A shame after the bones of st Nicholas Xmas special was so good. Aside from that, there hasn’t been an episode I’ve truly loved since season 6. Season 7 was a bit meh, although I did really like a random act of kindness (the time travelling one).

LuckyMoonstone · 29/04/2023 08:19

@3kidsaremorethanenough I’m definitely not ashamed to admit it! Or my love of Psychoville & League of Gentlemen. My old username on here used to be LOG related 😅 Agee I’d love to see Mark Gatiss appear in more of them

pinkchampagne1 · 29/04/2023 10:36

Just watched Mr King. Didn’t like it at all - found it pretty disturbing

mrsnjw · 29/04/2023 10:37

Yeah, what was it about really? Were they trying to turn around the scenario to make it about the teacher being the one being abused by the kids and the headmaster. I just found it uncomfortable have to say

I've never seen Psychoville I'm ashamed to admit, it must have passed me by. That will be next on the list then. I've heard it's supposed to be better than LOG and Inside no 9

Surely Mr King is supposed to be disturbing? It's take on The Wickerman. An outsider joins a strange isolated rural community with dark secrets, only this time it's a teacher instead of a police officer. The outsider is then sacrificed for the benefit of the community.

The point was that they've been sacrificing adults to please the gods, reversing the trend of children being sacrificed in some cultures like the Incas, and ensure a prosperous harvest festival . Not that he was being abused as such but they needed to ensure that he was uncut and still sheathed I.e not circumcised hence taking the photos of his genitals because that's what their tradition/religion dictate that their victim needs to be.

Yes , it does have parallels of The Wicker Man ( the Edward Woodward one is the iconic film, I haven't sullied my eyes with the Nicholas Cage version)

In TWM , the victim has to go willingly to the island and be chaste , so similarly in Mr King he has to meet requirements .

Ah well it makes more sense now you put it like that

Glad my terrible explanation helped. Hopefully you can return the favour because I'm planning on watching all of the episodes again and while I love the show I remember that several of them left me rather puzzled at the end.

LuckyMoonstone · 29/04/2023 14:24

@3kidsaremorethanenough it’s brilliant, more similar to LOG than number 9. I wish they’d do another series.

pinkchampagne1 · 29/04/2023 19:42

I haven’t seen The Wickerman. I just didn’t really enjoy the Mr King episode. I found it all a bit too weird.

Where can you watch it?

pinkchampagne1 · 29/04/2023 20:03

pinkchampagne1 · 29/04/2023 21:54

I re-watched Wuthering Heist yesterday , it still went over my head but I hard more , the jokes and the interaction of the characters . Original watching I was trying to work out if it was Reece or Steve playing Arlo but its neither Grin

Then onto Simon Says , but I nodded off and missed it ( I was knackered , it was late )

pinkchampagne1 · 30/04/2023 09:23

I am pretty useless and my DH often has to explain the endings to me! 😆
