Inside No.9 Favourite episodes

Hi, I've been watching some old episodes this week before the new series starts tomorrow night. What's everyone's favourites? I know there's so many. I watched Sardines last night I love that one think it's so funny and clever poor Stinky John. And Wuthering Heist, really clever writing and twists. I think the only one I wasn't pushed on was the Devil of Christmas.

The mother was a laboratory worker, wasn't she? As I was (finally) watching the episode, my take on it was the mother had created some kind of genetically enhanced child to be her daughter.

Although a fan of Inside No.9, I'm not really that aware of the fandom, so I hadn't heard about the clamour for a bus-based episode, either. I'm not bothered about the bus, I just thought Robin Askwith would have been fun.

Saucery · 20/05/2023 20:27

I really enjoyed that episode. The mother saying she would use the money to dig out the basement for the daughter to live in is what tipped the latter over the edge.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 21/05/2023 12:12

I really liked the 3 by 3 episode. I only watched it last night so knew from the outset it was Inside No 9 I wish I had been able to see it when it was on.

what I can’t fathom is the dad’s part in it, did Catherine feed him the wrong answer and then keep him frozen out on purpose, because he might have gone into the booth otherwise?

We watched it live ( well it was on, but I was on the laptop Googling "Lee Mack 3x3" and findinging nothing .
DH reckoned it was an Inside No9 all along though

I watched the "Dead Line" episode the day after so I knew along it was a set up as they wouldn't repeat an episode that had gone so wrong.

With the Oakwood family , the Dad was a bit odd , the Mother and Daughter had careers and University , the Dad "likes cricket"
Maybe the daughter did deliberately freeze him out to get the Mum in the booth . Maybe the daughter felt all her life like an laboratory animal and wanted to make sure the Mother knew just what it felt like ?

Saucery · 21/05/2023 12:54

Did Dad even have the telepathic link with Catherine? He seemed to answer his own questions without needing to wait for her to send him the answers. He seemed ‘normal’.

Actually maybe not, I was thinking that as I was typing it actually. Maybe it was just mum and then Catherine saving him/luring mum by not bringing him back for the next round.

LunaNorth · 21/05/2023 13:00

I felt like the dad telepathically fed the daughter the cricket answer.

I felt like the dad telepathically fed the daughter the cricket answer.

I was wondering that but then I was also wondering if she was just able to read what was on the card/reading Lee Mack’s mind.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 21/05/2023 13:06

The FUR Q bit was brilliant. That was where Margaret’s fate was sealed.

I watched it again today as I am so unobservant, missing all the cues that my husband and son picked up on. Like when she answered the question about the Witchfinder General before any real information had been given.

Twoscotcheggsandajarofmarmite · 21/05/2023 13:06

There must have been a telepathic link with the dad, she wouldn’t have got that cricket one on her own.
Maybe the plan all along was to get him frozen out. Presumably he could sit in the green room and Google answers. Where else could the daughter have pulled the Arctic Monkeys answer from? She clearly had no clue when first asked.
The only thing that bothered me was how would the last round have worked if a team of three had gotten through? Do we just ignore that little plot hole because it was all so well done?

TooOldForThisNonsense · 21/05/2023 13:14

She must have had the telepathic link with others beyond her mum. Otherwise she wouldn’t have been able to feed the David Jason wrong answer or to answer the Witchfinder General question.

Maybe it would have been 2 on the outside against one and the 2 could confer. Who knows!

Maybe she got the answers off the cards/from Lee?

presumably she fed her mum the Winston Churchill answer as the wrong answer too but maybe she didn’t have to actually. Not sure.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 21/05/2023 13:20

She didn’t seem to know the Shakespeare one readily either and her dad was still there at that point

pinkchampagne1 · 25/05/2023 16:38

It’s the very last episode this evening

EsmaCannonball · 25/05/2023 18:02

I thought that this series was the last one but apparently the final series will be next year, series 9. That make sense. The writers have also added that it's the kind of format that allows them to reboot the show or do one-off specials if the mood were to take them.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/05/2023 22:36

Whoah just watched tonights ! My favourite from this series .
I felt sick at what happened to Reeces character but a good Inside No 9 twist.

Couldn't find the hare though....

TheMarzipanDildo · 25/05/2023 22:38

Jesus Christ that was unexpected

Namechangenumber2345 · 26/05/2023 11:44

That was dark, even for them!

JackieQueen · 26/05/2023 13:34

So so clever!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/05/2023 18:36

Ah rewatched - the hare is a doorstop when Chazz is telling Mollie about being a popstar and Joe is hovering , listening

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 26/05/2023 18:39

I wasn’t that impressed by the latest one. It was clever yes but Shearsmith’s character was almost the same as the gay character in Sardines and I didn’t see myself believing the 9 years reasoning behind Pembertpn’s character’s motives. I couldn’t see he would really put him in cement and leave him to be eaten alive!

Really? Didn’t see it to be their darkest by any means.

I’m sure they’ll come up with another concept, what, I don’t know. But they certainly probably have lots of new ideas and the BBC know they get good viewing figures.

mrsnjw · 26/05/2023 19:25

Akkk that was a busy grim 🙈

Saucery · 26/05/2023 20:07

Hmmm, bitchy, waspy, unkind RS character gets comeuppance is a bit old hat. Always a pleasure to see them spark off each other though.
