The dialogue is not exactly inspiring, but there are some lovely properties featured. And yes, I'm aware of how middle-aged that makes me sound.

I'm hoping that the ' gogglebox' crew do their own spin on this new drama! They will have a lot to say about that empty flat

They already covered it on Friday's show.

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2023 21:54

Oh. I Missed it then :(

WrenNatsworthy · 16/04/2023 22:01

I just watched this tonight. I fast forwarded most of it. I enjoyed taking the piss out of it, but really, what was the point of it?

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2023 22:06

The one playing Anna was in happy valley
She looks so different in this

Gintime74 · 16/04/2023 22:11

Thank you, this made my weekend. Binged obsession then rewatched Damage to compareboth terrible but compulsive viewing and the properties were gorgeous.

Everydayshouldbe · 16/04/2023 23:13

Is it any easier to understand the husband's behaviour in the original?

Chestnut12 · 16/04/2023 23:15

It was horrible! The pillow scene wtf!!!!!! So so bad. Anna has basically a shit person and that horrible triangle hair* … just don’t see why anyone would be obsessed!? The dad also a total shit, still going after her after his SON DIED. I haven’t seen the original but I dunno why they bothered with this, the weird music and cushion shag didn’t translate well at all. Good actors but they should have thrown out that script idea and done something else!!

*the actress is very beautiful but that haircut was horrible and made my own forehead feel itchy lol

Imo it was better as he seemed totally in awe in a genuinely better acted way.
The script was better slightly.
All about sex but completely obsessed with her. Travelling to Paris for a 2 min meeting.. then crying like a baby alone in the hotel room.

Whyisitdarkalready · 17/04/2023 14:24

I've binge watched this. Very weird! Did anyone else find it odd how little RA actually spoke in the episodes?? It was all mainly smouldering looks and bondage. I wasn't expecting Jay to die so that was quite a good twist, but the fact that William was more concerned about Anna than the fact his son had died didn't sit right with me.

So can we discuss the ending..... is she going to try to manipulate and sleep with the psychiatrist?? Is the pattern of obsessive behaviour going to continue?

I'm glad I watched it (except for the cringeworthy cushion scene) but thankful it was only 4 episodes. Wonder if Gogglebox will review the second episode.......I can imagine their responses to the cushion!!

IcedPurple · 17/04/2023 20:54

Just watching the first episode. We're definitely bordering on so bad it's good territory here. At times it seems almost like a parody, especially with the toe curling script and terrible acting from people we know are good actors.

The older man, younger woman storyline is so cringey and dated. And the sex scenes are about as sexy as root canal treatment.

Kvetching · 18/04/2023 08:44

Ooh it was so bad! I really enjoyed it 😂

I watched it purely because the Guardian review was so funny.

I wasn’t familiar with any of the actors. There was zero chemistry between the dad and the woman with Maxine Carr hair, so the premise seemed completely ludicrous. Did they kiss once in any of those unsexy sex scenes? Did she ever get an orgasm with all than 10 second shagging?

I have no idea what happened in the end. I may have fallen asleep or has just stopped caring.

noimaginationforausername · 18/04/2023 10:03

Started watching this last night and hated it as soon as they met at the bar but carried on until the cushion scene (WTF?!) and then gave up! It's just a load of shit and RA is totally unattractive especially after the cushion humping!

Oh and as someone else said I love her hair but when I said that to my husband he told me I'd probably look like Lord Farquhar 😂

GalileoHumpkins · 18/04/2023 11:12

I think the lack of chemistry between the leads can probably be explained by the fact that RA is gay.

CaffeineOD · 18/04/2023 11:24

@GalileoHumpkins but he's an actor....

@GalileoHumpkins but he's an actor....

True but I think some things must be hard to fake.

Coffeeandbourbons · 18/04/2023 11:26

It was so bad I switched it off after 2 episodes. There’s no character development, the parts are ridiculously over-acted and it feels very try hard.

CaffeineOD · 18/04/2023 11:34

@GalileoHumpkins well harder perhaps, but if actors could only portray attraction to actors who they were genuinely attracted to then that would be quite an issue.

GalileoHumpkins · 18/04/2023 11:47

Maybe it's the difference between a good actor and a bad actor?

Aquarius1234 · 18/04/2023 12:18

GalileoHumpkins · 18/04/2023 11:12

I thought the same, but also thought hes obv not that good an actor!
Why was he talking so slowly all the time. Esp to his wife. Talk about going thought the motions.

Coffeeandbourbons · 18/04/2023 15:43

I didn’t know he was gay - I can usually tell - not because of any ‘campness’ but because I’m good at spotting genuine lust, I suppose for straight men that’s easier to conjure up with a pretty actress!

did anyone else cringe when she said ‘what would you like me to drink’ 😑

aSofaNearYou · 18/04/2023 16:00

Only watched the first episode, I was just baffled by why they were so immediately obsessed with each other and he took absolutely zero persuasion to cheat on his wife. There's usually a bit of toying with guilt in things like this. Felt like 50% of the scenes were missing and there should have been more build up.

foxlover47 · 18/04/2023 16:13

I never knew RA was gay either I will always have such a crush on him but the cushion scene , well it tested my resolve hugely !!
I haven't seen the film so never had a idea of what the plot would be ,
I couldn't feel any empathy towards her or him the way he still wanted her after what happened to his son was simply insane !I suspect she will do the same with the psychiatrist...

Whyisitdarkalready · 18/04/2023 16:27

I agree, there was zero character development. I thought Jay was a very weak character, why would someone propose when they've never met their friends or family? Why was he happy being left with questions? The fact he looked similar to her brother was very weird too, are we meant to think that she perhaps was more complicit in the incest?? Anna is just a very screwed up person.

I didn't know RA is gay. I wonder if that's why there is very little chemistry between them. If he'd perhaps have made her orgasm through some foreplay instead of just 20 seconds of humping her, it may have looked more believable perhaps. The sex looked awful, painful even. It was all based on his pleasure as quite often Anna looked in pain.

I think Obsession is one of those programmes that you end up watching through pure disbelief of how bad it is.

benfoldsfivefan · 18/04/2023 16:28

I don’t think there’s been any official confirmation from RA that he’s gay, had there?
