The dialogue is not exactly inspiring, but there are some lovely properties featured. And yes, I'm aware of how middle-aged that makes me sound.

Watched the cushion scene last night- who thought that was a good idea? On some clips programme I once saw a cat shag a fluffy dressing gown to completion and it was very similar.

everyone involved in this is advertising they’re a crap shag.

I liked Richard in North South divide so I was excited when I saw it coming up on Netflix. I'm only 3/4 of the way through the first episode. Murphy has very creepy eyes and facial expression. I've not seen the first film but I thought they knew each other and he was dreading seeing her in the party because she's a bunny boiler or something stalking him. Who handfeeds a stranger an olive at the bar at a work event? I highly doubt an eminent surgeon would get drunk at a work event. They would be swamped by colleagues forming a queue to speak to him.
I don't like it when a show starts back to front, expecting us to catch up as they unravel crumbs of what happened so it finally makes sense. So far it's making me very confused.
His bum wasn't shot from the best angle, in a way it's nice to see an older man with less than perky bum and an imperfect pimply blotchy back. Age really isn't kind to either sexes and the myth of men aging better is truly bollocks. Having said that, his wife in the show is stunning!
Neither their children look mixed though. I think the casting, particularly of Anna (Murphy) and the children Jay and his sister could have been better.

Waterpoosunset · 15/04/2023 12:44

Who is the older Asian man with KFC style facial hair? Is he the maternal grandpa?

Waterpoosunset · 15/04/2023 12:45

The sex scene is dire, he came after 2 pumps and she laid there like a corpse or a crucifix. It looked stupid.

Lol they were trying to copy the original film.

SapatSea · 15/04/2023 13:24

It all made no sense. Why would the dopey son even suspect his dad was shagging Anna just from his dad saying the same phrase as Anna, especially when the dad saying the phrase was from a poem was a pretty good cover ? I know the son was , like his dad, obsessed with Anna but it wouldn't be a first thought unless they showed the son watching Anna and William together first to set some groundwork.

If William was into BDSM and transgression he had plenty of money to go explore that with "professionals." The script gave no sense that he was bored with his life, feeling he'd missed out by not having a lot of sexual partners, under stress from his job or wanting to blow his life up. The opening scene where they meet is ludicrous.

Anne Murphy was awful in this as were the "children." RA and IV tried but it was just dull. Did none of these actors read the script before signing up?

KillerSandy · 15/04/2023 10:24

Yes 😂 the back arching etc . We were saying how embarrassing to have to film this! 😂😂

I've read that apparently it was improvised and wasn't in the script!

toomuchlaundry · 15/04/2023 13:42

Wasn’t there some talk about the original film that the 2 main actors actually had sex during one of the scenes, as it was so explicit. Haven’t seen the film and am not tempted to watch the tv series reading everyone’s comments on here!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/04/2023 13:45

The original novel.by Josephine Hart gives an insight into their attraction to each other, and also into Anna's history.

I haven't seen the new series, but might do now, even though you all seem to think it's dreadful 🤣

Claricethecat45 · 15/04/2023 13:50

Just ploughed through. The cushion scene was absurd..as was the rest. And all I saw in Anna was Maxine Carr.

Mendholeai · 15/04/2023 13:53

The cringe level was just high, there wasn’t any chemistry between the actors and it was hard to believe she would fall for him. All the bdsm was just like when couples call each other hunny bunny in public. Icky.

Aquarius1234 · 15/04/2023 14:15

I didn't like RA in it. Dodgy forced acting I thought. David Tennant might have worked.
Or someone with a london posh accent. Charlie Murphy is Irish and I couldn't work out what accent she was trying to do??

motherofkevinnotperry · 15/04/2023 14:41

Erm, episode 2, I think I'll stick to reading my Saturday paper. RA is lovely but wtf is this bollocks 😒

MuddlerInLaw · 15/04/2023 14:59

Haven’t seen the film

It was weirdly compelling, @toomuchlaundry - with real emotional heft in terms of the long term consequences for the characters. Not easy to forget.

spacechimp79 · 15/04/2023 15:02

I'm watching it right now. I know what you're all saying is true but I also know that I'll watch the rest of it as I feel compelled to. Blush
The cushion scene was strangely disturbing!

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 15/04/2023 15:31

@Claricethecat45 - yep I thought Maxine Carr too 😬

Mendholeai · 15/04/2023 15:35

The real mystery is why these actors/actresses- most of whom have great reputations and an impressive resume signed up to this??? I am thinking it had to be for the money?

Motnight · 15/04/2023 15:38

Just watched this all in 1 go. It was awful. Strangely compulsively terrible.

The cushion scene made me laugh whilst at the same time make a mental note to not ever again touch cushions in a hotel. The sex scenes were quick and unsexy. The 2 leads can't have taken this seriously surely?!

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 15/04/2023 15:40

Oh I’m glad it’s not just me who was confused about their initial meeting. It looked like they already knew each other/were ex-partners or something, but was that just them supposedly experiencing an instant frisson or something? I felt like I’d lost the plot before it even began so have only watched 1.5 episodes.

Omg am crying 😂😂😂😂

TheGander · 15/04/2023 16:16

I watched the 1980s damage with jezza irons and Juliette binoche and it was a cringe fest. Lacking in all Emotional credibility. This sounds about the same!

CaffeineOD · 15/04/2023 16:19

RA is hot, but just reading this has put me right off watching this. I actually thought the trailer looked good, but I guess it's all down hill from there.

Have seen that initial meeting scene and yes, very annoying and bizarre. I think we've all had moments of intense, out of the blue attraction, but you don't just stare at each other and start hand feeding bar snacks!

I think I saw at least some of Damage by mistake when I was a kid 😬 I remember thinking WTF a lot! There was one scene when they were angrily rolling around on the floor in this weird, entangled sex ball. I'm not sure I'd see this as any less weird as an adult 🫣😂

I agree, it was a truly terrible film, just awful.

emmetgirl · 15/04/2023 17:27

I gave up after the first episode- so predictable and the acting was dreadful
