Obsession (Netflix) - new adaptation of Damage

The dialogue is not exactly inspiring, but there are some lovely properties featured. And yes, I'm aware of how middle-aged that makes me sound.

Iirc there was similar amounts of cringeing about Jeremy Irons at the time. It's the same old trope of much older man and younger woman that feels very ick to most sensible people. It's like an older man's sleazy fantasy - and very outdated.

That was exactly my feeling of the TV series. Sleazy, without substance and clearly based on male fantasy.

it did not make for enjoyable viewing so why did I watch until the end??

I always quite like the idea of seeing his naked bottom and todger but just no.

Watching this now, its so bad.
The awkwardness, the grunting, the stares, the constant 3 second shagging scenes.
Both actors are unappealing.

I’m annoyed that anyone would make the lovely Indira Varma frown so anxiously.

It’s impossible not to wonder why Ann Gallagher is so far from Hebden Bridge. And whether she’s doing all this because of TLR.

I do like his coat. Is it Connolly?

The Cushion .... for years I have literally fancied the hell out of Richard Armitage .. from guy of gisbourne to the hunk of Geraldine grangers Dibley , Lucas north in spooks , strike back
And now all I'm seeing is RA and the cushion 👀👀👀🙈😅

So how’s there’s a thread on this. Isn’t it awful. I had a nagging feeling I half remembered the plot when I read the blurb on Netflix. Damage was awful too. Though I don’t remember the acting being as bad as this. The scene where they meet in the bar… what is going on with their eyes?!

Richard Armitage should sue the production company for damages to his self-esteem. How utterly embarrassing to have that cushion scene out there for the whole world to see.

I agree it was all terrible and yes the usual shit about an older man giving it all up for some younger woman that he doesn't even know.

I felt rather sorry for the son, he was the cuckold who appeared to have no personality whatsoever. Until the last few seconds.

I watched the first episode and then walked away. I couldn’t get interested in any of it. Shame because that actress was amazing in Peaky Blinders, The Last Kingdom and a few other things.

Yes how did they manage to make this usually charismatic and compelling actress both dull and frumpy??? (In the episode I watched)

I don't know if Richard Armitage has a wife or partner, but if he does, I think he ought to consider cancelling his Netflix subscription for a while, lest she sees the cushion scene and gets the ick.
