Taskmaster- just me?

To me this is the ultimate comfort TV.
Every season I miss the previous year's contestants and then end up loving it all over again.
This year the less well-known candidates (to me as well) have already won me over. And Dara O'Briain is like the exasperated yet optimistic supervising the chaos.
The question group task at the end of last episode had me crying.

i love it, the only show that regularly makes me laugh out loud. I agree the mix of lesser known comedians really works and I grow to love them all!

stilldumdedumming · 07/10/2022 23:18

And a show where women get decent air time and do well! I love it!

murasaki · 07/10/2022 23:18

Not just you, I love it. Totally laughed at the question task, and I then tend to see more of the new faces on things like live at the apollo, it's a good introduction to comedians you don't know but grow to like.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 07/10/2022 23:27

It’s brilliant! I’m the same, every series I think “this won’t be as good as the others” and then once you get to know everyone it’s just as hilarious. Obviously there’s the odd task that’s a bit of a flop in each series, but it is so delightfully bonkers, one of my fave shows of all time. I don’t think I’ve ever cried with laughter at another show as often as I do with this. The sausage spinner and the watermelon eating tasks stick in my head, but there’s so many good ones.

Tormundsbeard · 07/10/2022 23:31

Agreed. Genuine Laugh out loud moments and occasional tears of laughter (Tim Vine lost hook).
Alex and Greg seem to be laughing more as the series go on.

anonacfr · 07/10/2022 23:35

The monster noise task at the end of the Victoria Coren Mitchell season was possibly the best ending of any show.
Alan Davies' wow monste, followed by Guz Khan's weird sexual one made me laugh so hard, specially seeing the group reaction.

I did love the group dynamic last season though. They worked so well together that even Alex spent most episodes laughing his head off.

I adore it. My favourite task was Song For A Stranger, the sheer contrast between the first which was genuinely lovely and then the second "Rosalind Is A Fucking Nightmare" makes me giggle every time I think of it. Best thing on TV ATM.

pastabest · 07/10/2022 23:41

I'm going to say it... this is my least favourite group so far, and I'm a huge Sarah Millican fan. I'm not taken with the move to the airport either.

like others have said Greg and Alex are laughing too much now

my favourite group is the one with Sally Phillips in it.

one of my favourite tasks though is the shoes one from the last series.

Bobbybobbins · 07/10/2022 23:41

Really enjoyed episode 2 of this series and loved the final question task. Wasn't convinced after 1st episode.

I think my username says it all 😆

Not just you! It’s brilliant.

anonacfr · 07/10/2022 23:47

Going waaaaaay back, what about the nursery rhyme task? That poor fish...

AMAZING

I still regret David Mitchell didn't do it with Victoria. I wonder if they tried to get him.

I like it. I liked the “impress this mayor” task best.

Umanresources · 07/10/2022 23:59

I have watched it since the first one on Dave, watched again with OH, then again with daughter, finally with son and daughter-in-law. Some of them I’ve watched multiple times. I loved the balls up the hill, the cat up the tree, sausages in the driving gloves and my favourite: Joe Wilkinson, potato in the hole, with no feet on the red carpet. 🤣🤣

Oh interesting! I thought the last two series have been lacklustre but this one is looking promising.

Absolutely love the early ones, nonplussed by the Iain and Lou sanders one / ambivalent towards ed gamble, big fan of the rhod Gilbert one and fell totally in love with Mike wozniak in his series!

PickAChew · 08/10/2022 00:11

We've watched them all. Some twice. Or more. Plus many of the foreign ones. Currently working through the Croatian version.

shortpeopleproblems · 08/10/2022 00:18

Alan's WOW monster followed by Guz is the hardest I have laughed in probably years. I'm normally a quiet chuckler, but I legitimately rolled off the sofa gasping for breath, tears streaming down my face with laughter. No exaggeration.

Oh it's been good the last few years. Charlotte Richie having a marvellous time was just a delight. Last year was magnificent - I adored all of them.

This year I'm really warming to John. Useless but absolutely hilarious.

HairyMcLarie · 08/10/2022 00:28

Try the NZ one if you can find it. I actually find it better than the Uk one!!

PrincessScarlett · 08/10/2022 14:58

Yes the question task on the last episode was brilliant! Haven't quite warmed to the new panel yet.

Loved the Rhod Gilbert series and his relationship with Greg.

Also loved the series with David Baddiel and Jo Brand and their weird and wonderful reenactment of the game Operation.

CurbsideProphet · 08/10/2022 15:05

We've watched it all at least once. I was slightly ambivalent about the previous series, but it seems back on form now. Lou Sanders / Iain Thingy were my least favourite contestants. I prefer it when people are just getting involved, not when they're desperate to be the winner.

My favourite task is the Sian Gibson series when they played a version of hide and seek at a train station. Alex saw Sian almost immediately but she was having so much fun she carried on playing anyway 😀

We've also watched Taskmaster NZ from. YouTube.

RewildingAmbridge · 08/10/2022 15:16

There have been some excellent line ups in recent series, Richard herring winning champion of champions was a definite peak. Recent stand outs for me have also been mawaan Rizwan, jamali Maddox, daisy may cooper, Mike Wozniak, Alan Davies, Guz Khan, but even further back James Acaster, Rhod Gilbert, Phil Wang, Jess knappet, even Lee Mack was surprisingly funny.

I think each series needs to settle in, but it's been good so far.

What is with the airport location?

PickAChew · 08/10/2022 16:11

Alex has friends in high places. And airports. The terminal was closed, at the time.

stilldumdedumming · 08/10/2022 17:02

Nobody has specifically mentioned Bob Mortimer?!!! (I may have missed it of course and he was part of the Rosalind song of course). I thought Lou Sanders was brilliant.

I used to really really fancy Sally Phillips, and became embarrassingly speechless in her presence once about 18 years ago. But I found her a bit annoying on TM. My taste has clearly changed!
