Taskmaster- just me?

To me this is the ultimate comfort TV.
Every season I miss the previous year's contestants and then end up loving it all over again.
This year the less well-known candidates (to me as well) have already won me over. And Dara O'Briain is like the exasperated yet optimistic supervising the chaos.
The question group task at the end of last episode had me crying.

LOVE this thread.

whereeee is my mummmm, whereeee is she goneeee, whereeee is my mummm, I want my mummmmm

The board game is currently in a lightning deal on amazon.

EvilRingahBitch · 12/10/2022 07:52

I'm agog to find out whether Dara will finally be the exception to the rule that contestants who are really intelligent or well-qualified on paper (Victoria, David, Phil, Paul) are amusingly shit on Taskmaster. The fact that they've broadcast an episode where he gets a maximum 30 points second in the series leads me to suspect that it's all about to go downhill from here: yes I know that the results of the prize task and the live task weren't known in advance but all of the other tasks were scored objectively so they'd have known he was going to win them.

(Yes I know Sophie Duker is really clever and that didn't stop her winning, but because I wasn't previously aware of her work I didn't have her pigeonholed as a cerebral comedian who should be good.)

Secretname123 · 12/10/2022 08:03

We started watching them from the beginning recently. My absolute favourite series so far was the one with Joe Lycett, Noel Fielding and Mel. All the contestants were brilliant that series.

sweatyannie · 12/10/2022 08:15

It's great. A real laugh out loud program!

monsteramunch · 12/10/2022 08:25

For anyone else a bit a lot in love with Mike Wozniak since his stint on the show, I highly recommend his podcast which was an absolute favourite of mine in lockdown.

It does exactly what OP describes taskmaster doing - ultimate comfort listening with laugh out loud moments. But sort of gentle. Hard to explain but have a listen, it's glorious.

And features some great guests as local characters, including other taskmaster legends like Greg Davies and James Acaster.

It's called St Elwick's Neighbourhood Association Newsletter Podcast:

Three Bean Salad podcast is also good for a fix of Wozniak (and it is very funny)

OddBoots · 12/10/2022 08:36

We love it, we have a guinea pig called Rosalind so she gets insulted a lot, not that she cares.

I was surprised that none of them twigged at the start that the laminator task would be a 2-parter though.

SoupDragon · 12/10/2022 08:40

Muntjacs deer!

piratehooker · 12/10/2022 08:56

Another huge fan here. Taskmaster merch is slowly filling our house, much to DH's weary chagrin. As PP mentioned, so many laugh out loud moments, but the Alan Davis Wow Monster (especially his face at the end, he had no idea when he opened his mouth what would come out!). Also couldn't stop giggling last week at John just out of nowhere saying 'If I'd gone up to the Pharmacist' when talking about buying rubber ducks!

piratehooker · 12/10/2022 08:57

Also both obsessed with 'Rosalind's a fucking nightmare'! Makes me chuckle every time.

It's the way Bob Mortimer whispers thoughtfully into the mic, "Rosalind.. Rosalind... Rosalind's a nightmare".

And Alex running around in the background like a madman picking up the things that keep falling over.

HairyMcLarie · 12/10/2022 10:44

Alex sitting on Tarbuck's cake with his bare arse was the best. 'I was quite open' had us crying.

Also Joe Wilkinsons hole in one with the potato that wasn't.

Poor Mark with the task only for him that he still failed by missing one.

Joe Lycett grinning more and more maniacally in the painting task. Again only for him!

AquaticSewingMachine · 12/10/2022 11:10

Oh, the special tasks are the best. Mel's will always be my favourite. And how proud Alex was of stressing her out enough to make her say "heck".

Mark's devastation on not getting any points for his cheeky texts.

Alex and the cake! "It was so... in me."

That Joe Lycett bit... I sent that clip, just with the increasingly Wallace-like grins, to my other half, with no context. It just amused me too much. The next day was the first time he said he loved me. I am convinced it's no coincidence; Joe is a right little matchmaker!

A recent favourite is Bridget Christie's walk when she's trying to get her head around the pedometer task, and asl when she practically mounts Greg on his throne! Made me proper fall for her.

piratehooker · 12/10/2022 11:11

There's something about Mark Heron Watson that makes me want to give him a hug when he gets no points for that task, bless him.

Topgub · 12/10/2022 11:12

@piratehooker

I love how exasperated Alex was with Bridget.

You dont often see him like that lol

bruffin · 12/10/2022 11:13

Ds 27 and I have been watching on catch-up. We are on Alan Davis series now but think we watched series 11 first.

fastforward · 12/10/2022 11:20

I also loved how Katherine Parkinson just got Alex to do EVERYTHING in all of her tasks 😂😂

Yea. God it was devastating. And all the other contestants with their hands over their mouths in shock!

Same for Joe W with the potato! He was so proud and then... Shock

coffeeneeded · 12/10/2022 11:40

It's my favourite show ever. Never gets old. Series 13 was an absolute banger of a lineup.

Tree wizard, Greg's head being sent into space, Greg's obvious crush on Shirley ballas, etc etc. too many good things to mention.

AquaticSewingMachine · 12/10/2022 11:51

Mel and Desky's Scandi noir: Tugtemester.

HauntedDishcloth · 12/10/2022 12:33

One of my fave bits was Katherine Parkinson's utter bewilderment in one task when she asked "Am I the spider?" 😆

DP & I think Greg has a huge crush on Liza Tarbuck.

Similarly, for James Acaster when he got zero for the hula hooping too. He was so proud of himself, until they pointed out that only the first attempt counts!

I've just seen that Taskmaster is up for Best Entertainment program in the National TV Awards. Let's get voting and get them an award!

Awards are tomorrow.
