Taskmaster- just me?

To me this is the ultimate comfort TV.
Every season I miss the previous year's contestants and then end up loving it all over again.
This year the less well-known candidates (to me as well) have already won me over. And Dara O'Briain is like the exasperated yet optimistic supervising the chaos.
The question group task at the end of last episode had me crying.

The funniest thing on TV. I normally watch comedy and smile. Taskmaster is the only show that makes me laugh out loud, and describing a helicopter made me convulse in pain. Brilliant.

BigBagOfElbows · 09/10/2022 18:53

Tree Wizard - genius!

pimlicoanna · 09/10/2022 19:02

I said to my boyfriend that Taskmaster is my version of the kids watching Bluey. It's the ultimate relaxation

AquaticSewingMachine · 09/10/2022 19:03

Rosalind married Alan
Alan could not be dreamier
but the viola player sadly
Well he contracted septicaemia

I loved Lisa Tarbuck round but it’s Rob Beckett who made me cry with laughing. I never really rated him prior to TM but I found him completely hilarious.

I do wish the Sinister Aryan Twins had had a ten-episode season!

Topgub · 10/10/2022 21:36

Love it

Loving this series too. Really like Fern.

I'm not sure I could pick favourite task or contestant

Jo and Liza for sure though would be up there. Mel.

Sally chucking the jelly

Noel camouflaged as a banana

Joe's existential crisis at nearly every task.

Just all of it

🤣

QuinkWashable · 10/10/2022 21:41

I love taskmaster. Just when you think they can't think of more silly things, they do.

I can't even picture a favourite - sometimes the simple ones are as brilliant as the elaborate ones.

AND whilst I have to wait, I am so thankful they do a bleeped version that I can watch with the kids - I really wish some tech whizz would release a bleeping filter, so I could watch other stuff, that apart from the swearing is fine to have on around kids (or even watch with them - not that they generally want to watch the same stuff as me, so I just need no fing and blinding that they can overhear most of the time)

Whataboutno · 10/10/2022 22:28

I loved the earlier series, Rosalind! My OH told our family we had named our second daughter Rosalind ( we didn't! 😅)

DrMadelineMaxwell · 10/10/2022 22:38

I always love the reactions of the people, inc Greg and Alex, more than any of the other silliness. Greg's reaction to Rob getting Greg's name tattooed on his foot. The slap on the face in the last series! And definitely the WOW monster final task round - so funny.

I also love seeing the clever ways people approach the problems. But also finding people who become unexpectedly pants at it, or stroppy, or those you think are v clever and then they make the daftest of choices (Victoria I'm looking at you!).

Fair play to everyone who goes on there.

WhyDoesItAlways · 10/10/2022 22:45

Love taskmaster but I've got a bit behind and need to catch up with the last few series. The Mel and desky series has been my fav so far with Mel's exotic sandwich a highlight.

Also loved doc browns nursery rhyme

It were Josh that got Greg tattoed on his foot.

Watching Liza Tarbuck in the HOP task is better than any educational video on sexism and the barriers women face in the workplace. And Iain Stirling being confronted by his everyday sexism repeatedly and being absolutely mortified. Brilliant stuff.

I hated Iain Stirling the first time I watched S8. And then strangely he grew on me. His competitiveness, his dorkish puppet enthusiasm, his abject mortification every time the playback revealed he'd been an arse in a group task. Iain and Lou screaming at each other while Paul Sinha hid behind a barrel. Solid gold.

The only contestant I genuinely can't stand is Roisin Conaty, because she phoned it in the entire way through. The comedians have to care at least a little bit, because that's what makes it funny.

Topgub · 11/10/2022 10:25

The only contestant I've not really liked was Lou. But I find her irritating in general.

The group task with Ian and Paul was funny.

Giggorata · 11/10/2022 10:25

Another big fan here, with many of my favourites already mentioned.
I enjoy the way that Greg picks up on the daft observations and exclamations that contestants make and then quotes back to them, and names each programme with them.
As for Alex, the creative genius behind it, I think he is wonderful.
I also loved his previous game show, We Need Answers, which was short lived, for some reason.

JenniferBarkley · 11/10/2022 10:27

Yeah I thought Iain Stirling ultimately came across quite well as he recognised when he was being an asshole and owned it.

James Acaster's rage is always hilarious to me, whether it's Taskmaster or Bake Off.

I know it's not a popular view, but I didn't like Mike Wozniak. I thought it seemed like an act and a bit contrived.

Topgub · 11/10/2022 10:29

Oh actually wasn't that keen on Rhod but again that's true in general

Loved the shoot her shiiting face off song though

🤣

emerald1981 · 11/10/2022 10:42

Yes love love love Taskmaster! Always cheers me up.

My favourite contestant was Kerry Godliman.

Mooserp · 11/10/2022 12:46

Until I saw him IRL I hadn't realised that Little Alex Horne is actually very tall 😄

anonacfr · 11/10/2022 13:12

Currently watching season 3 and it is a delight.
Love Al Murray and Rob Beckett has the perfect energy for it.
The cackling nan in the surprise task was genius.

Floralnomad · 11/10/2022 17:51

I think the Al Murray series was one of the best , we gave up on the Sally Phillips series . One of the funniest tasks had to be the blindfold mobility scooter driving .

The cackling Nan still makes me laugh when I think about it. Utterly bonkers humour. 😂😂😂

FutureDays · 11/10/2022 23:18

The task with them making cocktails under a certain amount of decibels had me cracking up, bin juice

SoupDragon · 12/10/2022 07:25

I had never considered watching it, then I watched one episode of last season which had Chris Ramsey trying to eat a sausage on a string tied to a cement mixer and was hooked 😂

Dara has the perfect mix of "WTF am I doing?" logical thinking and comedy.
