Was on Friday night , bbc one and stars Daisy May Cooper ( this country , taskmasters)

Thought I'd start a spoiler thread as it's all on the I player and I know a few of us have binged it!
I did love this. It had an unusual manic start , but it grew in me and seeing the different episodes through a different lens was clever
I felt sorry for her with Alex and how easy it was for her to fall for his charms.

Yes @Hardbackwriter because the first version was so idealised and romantic, and the end version was over the top insulting, I think it's definitely both scenarios that were in her head. I thought we'd never know.....so will the second series unravel it, or leave us wondering even more?!

EmsC1980 · 15/11/2022 18:07

I really didn't see the ending coming but had a few issues with the storyline. So if there were two witnesses there to see what happened to Alex, why wasn't there an investigation into his death for a year? And the other thing playing on my (weird) mind - when did Ollie kill the cat? If it was after him seeing his mum and Alex in the utility room, which would have been, well, more "logical", it would have been a year before the storyline starts at episode 1. So he killed it a few months or even a year later - why then? Just doesn't make sense.

Maybe there was an enquiry. From the outside it would have looked like an accident, or maybe the kids didn't come forward.

I think Ollie thought that the cat was the cause of Alex and his Mum having sex. In the show he's 9, so maybe he thought no cat= no weird unravelling adults. I agree the timing isn't clear but that kind of works because Nic's head is all over the place.

Just finished it, so good, need more!

BiscuitLover3678 · 24/11/2022 08:21

Ollie must’ve worked out that Nic was involved in Alex’s death. I mean he’d just found out and then suddenly he dies.

I really liked this series, I liked the twist at the end. I agree with a pp the wedding headgear was odd.
Met many, many MUA like Jesus (I’m in beauty industry) 🤣
I liked the house.

MissBattleaxe · 28/11/2022 11:15

I think the wedding outfit and headgear was very Nic. I can't imagine her in a veil and a long dress. The make up was stunning. Well done Jesus (and more Jesus in S2 please).

I don't think that's the reason he killed the cat. I think the key is his mum says "sometimes you're so like me it scares me".

He's copying his mum.

His uncle did a bad thing, and then he died. He knows that his mum was involved with the death as she was there. He's a smart kid and they spend a lot time together, and is "so like" her: he understands her - so he may well suspect she killed him, or know on some level.

He was 9 when it happened, this is a year later, he's 10 now.

He kills the cat as he's punishing it for doing something bad, just like his mum did to his uncle. For us, learning about the past in unreliable flashbacks, it's a foreshadowing of the truth that comes out at the end. But for him, he's acting out what his mum did.

@FfaCoffi Very interesting! I think you might be right.
