Am I being unreasonable? ..SPOILERS

Was on Friday night , bbc one and stars Daisy May Cooper ( this country , taskmasters)

Thought I'd start a spoiler thread as it's all on the I player and I know a few of us have binged it!
I did love this. It had an unusual manic start , but it grew in me and seeing the different episodes through a different lens was clever
I felt sorry for her with Alex and how easy it was for her to fall for his charms.

The conversation where Jen was coming clean to Nic / Nic confronting her was EXACTLY like a MN thread. Nic interrupting with questions about minutiae and digressing from the point while Jen is revealing the horrors of the life she’s found herself in

I realise that I'm very late to the thread but I finished this earlier tonight and just loved it so much. I am clearly going to have to rewatch it at least once though, so many twists and turns, and little clues and after reading the thread, clearly stuff is signposted that I didn't catch the first time.

I’ve just rewatched it (again) and realised - do Nic and Jen take drugs at olis party? I’m pretty sure that’s what Jen called for. Hadn’t realised that the first time.

That's what I assumed although maybe she just needed loads of Alka Seltzer and paracetamol.

Because they are really noisy and seem off their faces when they start talking about spa breaks? with Lucy when Ollie's film is being shown.

Yes, I was under the impression Jen gave Nic speed at Ollie's party. Some very funny lines from Ollie at the party. When Nic tells him to wrap his friend in toilet roll because he's bored he says "well, yeah, we've done that. That's like page one."

My first ever telly binge watch, on Friday morning whilst off work feeling so ill I might die....thinking I was in for some daft laughs and a cheer-up. How wrong could I have been! After three hours I ended up absolutely starving and with my head banging, not to mention massive psychological trauma. I sat there for ages staring out the window trying to recover. Blimey.

The way Jesus spoke to Alex in that way, knowing the git he was, is that why he was called Jesus?....

Yes, the last episode puts everything in place and kind of changes the whole angle. I think it's the best telly I've seen in ages. He'd been using her for seven years.

I loved it so much!

Ollie's little heartbroken face when he heard his Mum and Uncle nearly finished me off. He's such a clever, nuanced actor.

Need to do a full rewatch to pick up all the clues. The two teenagers was such a clever thread weaving through the series.

Omg watched the whole thing despite making a pact with myself to be in bed by 12 tonight.

It really really got to me. I am all of the characters. Irony being I am mainly drunken ‘lead character syndrome’ Nic. But also I am needy and braggy and annoying like Lucy, have a saviour complex like Jen. They were all so beautifully drawn and real.

The men were so awful. But they were also side characters in it. The main drive I thought was female friendships and how weird and unbalanced they are. It’s never soulmates and besties, we are all taking what we need whether it’s validation or approval or feeding a complex.

also SO MANY Mn references. Mum’s netball made me laugh as an obvious nod but also so many throwaway lines that referenced obscure or ancient threads, I wish I’d made a list as I went because I can’t for the life of me remember half of them now.

Well done DMC and SH. I loved it. And I’ve also been on MN far too long as I was seeing references when maybe they aren’t even. Loved all the narcissist, toxic, vile that you only really see here. But also random words and phrases.

Yup. Everything except punching the lemon drizzle.

I can't believe it took us so long but it's the only thing that the DC will watch with us and getting everyone in the house at the same time for a waking hour is a rarity.

So clever, funny and dark. Part of me thinks that Nic will implode on realising that both she and her son are capable of killing, in which case it was a superb place to stop.

And yet part of me is desperate to know more background and thus a second series to answer all the back story questions and where do they go from here.

Loved it.

Just finished it

Loved DMC on taskmaster so thought is give it a go.

Was so well written (didn't realise till a few eps in it was co written by the actress who played jen)

Did not see the twist coming or Jens back story. In the first ep I thought jen was the wife of the man nic was having the affair with

Can't wait for series 2

Delighted that there will be a second series!

I seem to be the only person who thought the ending was supposed to be ambiguous? The first version of his death we saw was her fantasy, but I thought that perhaps the final one was her nightmare and equally in her own head - he said basically every bad thing he could about her, like he was voicing her own worst fears. I wondered if neither were trustworthy - that the truth lay somewhere in between, and that she was perhaps less at the centre of it all than she thought herself to be. When his wife asked 'why he did it' we were supposed to think she meant the affair but did she really think he killed himself, and was referring to that?
