If the apocalypse comes, beep me - the Buffy thread!

A spin-off from the Torchwood thread where there seem to be lots of people reminiscing about the good ole days of Buffy and Angel and the genius that is Joss Whedon.

I sometimes feel strange confessing to being a Buffy fan in RL at the age of 36 but I love both it and Angel. So if you need somewhere to swap favourite moments, this is the thread!

marry no one ffs she still has to save the world but by all means bonk Angel & Spike and make them fight for it send Riley very very far away with smug wife

glitterandsparkle · 31/01/2008 09:17

i am a real fan as well, have both buffy and angel limited edition dvd collections.

one of my fave episodes is 'once more with feeling' (of course i also have that on seperate dvd.

the one in angel where he gets infected with demon blood and becmoes human, always makes me cry.

Likeasow · 31/01/2008 20:41

which season and episode is that again? I want to watch it again - my covers are all in Chinese so have to guess the episodes!

AnnakeyRules · 31/01/2008 21:27

I've just remembered to add this thread to my watch(er) list (arf!)

BroccoliSpears · 31/01/2008 21:37

Fully fledged Buffy & Angel fan reporting for duty.

Reading all this has made me want to watch them all again.

sigh.

Ahh good times.

sfxmum · 01/02/2008 09:17

what a tribe I remember the pleasure of introducing my niece, then 13 to the joys of Buffy, she got herself a mister pointy to carry around in her bag - bless

slayerette · 01/02/2008 17:04

I am coming up to the end of my Angel rewatch - have just watched the one where Connor reappears and Wesley discovers that Angel wiped him from all their memories. Connor much less annoying now than Season 4 teenage strop Connor.

Who is more annoying - teenage Connor or teenage 'Get out, get out, get OUT' Dawn?

OP posts:
MrsTweedy · 01/02/2008 22:00

Teenage Connor was way more irritating, & completely without a sense of humour. At least teenage Dawn had the sense to hang out with Spike in his cellar, lucky cow

JimJammum · 02/02/2008 13:37

Bit of a bump for this fab thread....so do you all remember watching your first Buffy episode? What was it and where? I had stayed in one night when dboyf (now dh) had gone out and found the pilot of Buffy on, so watched it and was hooked ever since.

serenity · 02/02/2008 13:42

I liked the film (sorry ) and had heard about the series when it was being shown in the US, so watched the pilot when it was shown here.

More annoying? Connor by miles

AnnakeyRules · 02/02/2008 14:43

I can't remember the exact first episode I saw, but I remember Jonathan Ross mentioning Buffy in passing on a radio programme, so I watched an episode out of curiosty, and was hooked!

(Oh, and Connor was just awful ,although dawn had her moments . totally agree that she redeemed herself by hanging out with the delectable spike, tho )

Dottydot · 02/02/2008 14:46

I'd just bed Spike!

SorenLorensen · 02/02/2008 14:48

Inspired by this thead I bought the DVD box-set (yes, we did have most of them on video already - yes, it was very extravagant) and we started watching them again last night - the first two "Welcome to the Hellmouth" and "Harvest". They all look so young! David Boreanaz (for a non-ageing, immortal vampire) looks years younger than he does in Angel (and less pudgy and really rather delightful).

Really enjoyed it - fave line I think was when Xander gives Buffy her stake back and says something like "all I can think is that you're building a really little fence..."

slayerette · 02/02/2008 17:01

Oh Soren, I am so jealous - I want to come to it all fresh! Might have to finish Angel rewatch and start again at the very beginning. My favourite exchange from those first two episodes:

Buffy: Who are you?
Angel: Let's just say I'm a friend.
Buffy: Well, maybe I don't want a friend.
Angel: I didn't say I was yours...

DH and I loved Angel before he was Buffy-whipped (is it Spike who comes up with that great phrase? - has to be!). And our first episode was Welcome to the Hellmouth, first time it was broadcast back in 1998, and we never missed a single ep after that - hooked from the first minute!

for all us angel fans thought i would pass on this link that i found on another thread www.wetmen.provocateuse.com/ scroll down to see your favourite men in some delicious photos, especially david boreanaz.

Likeasow · 03/02/2008 18:57

Oh hello.....that site is hilarious! David Tennant in sexy photos? that is where I am going next - can't really imagine....

Likeasow · 03/02/2008 18:58

Ok not sexy just wet....

slayerette · 03/02/2008 19:07

Why do so many sleb men pose for photos in a bath? Is it some kind of weird fetish they have? Not complaining about some of them but others -

FlameNFurter · 03/02/2008 19:18

My first Buffy episode was the pilot when it was shown on BBC2 - My friend had been watching it on sky (which I didn't have) and loved it, so I was determined to watch it. I remember laying on the floor in front of the tv with a blanket and my feet on the radiator (my tv watching position at home ), I would have been 17/18?? It was love at first watch

The only episode I ever missed (so didn't get to see it in order ) was from the final season - the one with the blackout and everyone leaving Sunnydale.

SorenLorensen · 03/02/2008 19:22

We didn't watch it when it was first aired on British TV - cos it coincided with ds1 being a new baby and we couldn't watch anything for all the crying

But my friend was raving about it from the start so when it was repeated (can't remember when - ds1 would have been about two, probably) we started to watch it and were hooked instantly. We bought the videos and caught up with ourselves then watched the rest as they were aired.

(This is not the Royal 'we' btw - I'm blessed with a dh who's a Buffy-nut too, thankfully).

slayerette · 04/02/2008 16:59

Sooo much better when dh is buffy-obsessed too, Soren! Dh and I use Buffy quotes as a kind of shorthand all the time - I love that we 'get' what each other means in this way.

And ds's middle name is Giles! - we drew the line at Spike or Angel but felt that Giles didn't make our Buffy obsession too painfully obvious except to other Buffy devotees!

OP posts:
FlameNFurter · 04/02/2008 19:54

DH watches too - He has always preferred Angel (won't accept my argument that the theme tune is just Buffy slowed down )

Our first rats were Spike and Drew (would have been Dru had he not had very un-Dru-like bits ). They were the best rats ever - especially Spike RIP

SorenLorensen · 04/02/2008 21:43

Oooh confession time, Slayerette - ds2 has a Buffy name too (though it too is fairly subtle...he's Harry Alexander...Alexander Xander Harris, geddit ?) We don't have any pets with Buffy names though...

Watched two more last night - Witch (best line, Giles, something about how she's supposed to be slaying demons and not waving pom-poms) and Teacher's pet which was not one of Joss' best but I did like Xander's line, on being asked by the she mantis/fetching teacher-lady if he had ever "been with a woman?"..."er...beeen with a woman...in the same room...er yes." And Angel was still looking mighty fine

MamaD · 04/02/2008 22:06

Oooh I wanted to call my dd Willow...dh didn't really mind but it REALLY didn't go with our surname.

If I ever persuade dh to have another and I'm blessed with a ds he will be Xander..... and frankly I don't care who at me!

My mate did have an Anya... she is 3 now and is affectionatly known as 'my little demon'

harpsichordcarrier · 04/02/2008 22:10

I wanted to call my rabbit Angel but dh was a bit about it.
I think it would have suited him tbh.I would have liked Willow too, but with my surname would have sounded like a street name.
