A spin-off from the Torchwood thread where there seem to be lots of people reminiscing about the good ole days of Buffy and Angel and the genius that is Joss Whedon.

I sometimes feel strange confessing to being a Buffy fan in RL at the age of 36 but I love both it and Angel. So if you need somewhere to swap favourite moments, this is the thread!

Slur, there were protests, letters and petitions! But Fox felt that they needed to make space for their other shows such as, ahem, Charmed

So now we're tormented by never knowing whether our heroes did manage to defeat the entire demon dimension(s)... I cried when Wesley died, btw....

Did anyone else think that the Cordelia storyline just went sooo weird and disturbing in Season 4 with the whole shagging Connor, being evil part?

Kerry, David Boreanaz is now playing an FBI agent in Bones. Is a good show but he is not remotely swirly-coat-king-of-pain in it...

Or if you meant Joss Whedon:

  • Ripper is apparently back on, as a standalone TV movie to be filmed this year
  • he has a new show in development called Dollhouse (starring Eliza Dushku)
  • he's been writing the comic book Runaways for a while now
purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/01/2008 08:54

the last couple of seasons of Angel weren't very good IMO.
they took over wolfrm and hart? whatever.

slayerette · 18/01/2008 09:40

Yes, Angel was much better in the first and second season - I never really bought into the whole destroying the system from within thing that happened when they took over Wolfram and Hart. And I really missed Angel out on the streets doing his thing - he just wasn't the same as a suit in an office.

Joss Whedon has overseen a Buffy Season 8 in comic form - it is his version of what happened after the destruction of Sunnydale and the Hellmouth...

[swoon] @ buffy

I cried when it ended (although the last season was a bit pants)

from the zeppo (my favourite episode and lots of genius Oz quotes):

X: You're in a band. That's like a business-class ticket to cool with complimentary mojo after take-off. I gotta learn an instrument. Is it hard to play guitar?
O: Not the way I play it.
X: Okay, but on the other hand... Eighth grade, I'm taking the flugelhorn and getting zero trim, so the whole instrument thing could be a mislead.

X: What do I have?
O: An exciting new obsession. Which I feel makes you very special.
X: Now with the mocking.

mynameis · 18/01/2008 09:55

I loved loved Buffy. Angel never had the same appeal especially when Angel & Cordy fell in lurve. Buffy was his only girl - damn scriptwriters . Ah the nostalgia seeing Spike in Torchwood.

slayerette · 18/01/2008 10:05

Oh no - not the favourite quotes bit - I could go on for hours

Buffy: What are you doing here? In five words or less.
Spike: Out. For. A. Walk. Bitch.

Oh, I miss Spike!

OP posts:
AnnakeyRules · 18/01/2008 11:32

I still miss Buffy, despite watching reruns and DVDs
I used to love the excitement each week when a new episode was aired!

Dh bought me some fab books a couple of years ago called The Watchers Guides which have loads of info in.
Episode guides, character guides, discussing how the plots all interlinked, fave quotes, etc.

I sat thro' Torchwood to see Spike but was disappointed. JM didn't seem as lucious. I think he wasn't blonde enough, or pale enough or undressed enough. (Can you tell I've been thinking about this a lot? )

needmorecoffee · 18/01/2008 11:40

I love Buffy. Didn't get into Angel so much as the wittiness seemed to be missing.
Sit and watch any episode of Buffy when its on though.
Did love Harmony. Valley girl vampire
And the Mayor. Minor character but with some great lines.

Enid · 18/01/2008 11:44

oz was my fave

agree the mayor was superb

also quite scary

AnnakeyRules · 18/01/2008 11:44

My fave minor character was Clem (chap with odd floppy ears first seen at the kitten poker )

Elffriend · 18/01/2008 12:39

Just checking into register! . I sooo miss Buffy - want to be her when I grow up (if only for the un-cut Spike episodes. Oh. My. God.)

Have even started watching Torchwood cos of Spike(seriously needs to bleach his hair back - and when did he shrink?). Capatain Jack does not really do it for me (way too pretty) but I live in hope of a Dr Who/torchwood cross-over which would have the Doctor and Spike in the same room. There again, not sure if my over-heated imagination could take that (I'd give it a damn good go though...)

MamaD · 18/01/2008 14:10

Couple of my faves:

Anya: You don't need me. All you care about is lots of orgasms.
Xander: Okay, remember how we talked about private conversations? How they're less private when they're in front of my friends?

Willow to Oz: Okay, so you're a werewolf. No problem. But hey, three days out of the month, I'm not much fun either.

I am such a Buffy spotter. A few years back when I broke my ankle and was bedridden I had a massive Buffyfest......drove dh mad!

Spike has always been quite short - but most of the rest of the cast of Buffy were even tinier, so you didn't notice (even David Boreanaz, who looks like a giant on the show, is only 6'1", I think).

I love Buffy (and Angel to a slightly lesser degree) I watched a load of Buffy DVD's when I was off on maternity leave. it was great to see all the early stuff again...

Ah Spike - agree with Elfriend and Annakeyrules, he was very hot!

MrsTweedy · 18/01/2008 16:01

Sigh....Captain John didn't have quite the same phwoar quality as Spike and I think the boy on boy action is trying too hard. And have his eyes got smaller? Still can delivery a line Spikily though.

Love Out. For. A. Walk..... Bitch. Must go find some fave Spike bites.

slayerette · 18/01/2008 16:24

I do feel bad for JM up against tall, broad and buff John Barrowman - poor old Spike always looked so manly next to Buffy but SMG is absolutely tiny!

I have the Watcher's Guides Annakey (love the name!) but the best Buffy episode guides are by a bloke called Keith Topping...

Spike: You made a bear! Undo it! Undo it!

Right, time to start wallowing properly with favourite episodes, favourite moments, favourite combinations of characters.

I loved the relationship they built up between Dawn and Spike, the fact that he was her babysitter (and a vampire with a chip in his head) just seemed so fitting!

RedFraggle · 18/01/2008 16:30

I loved Hush. The way all the characters interacted without speech was genius! And of course when she bumps into Riley while out on patrol!

Giles' slideshow about "The Gentlemen" - brilliant!
