If the apocalypse comes, beep me - the Buffy thread!

A spin-off from the Torchwood thread where there seem to be lots of people reminiscing about the good ole days of Buffy and Angel and the genius that is Joss Whedon.

I sometimes feel strange confessing to being a Buffy fan in RL at the age of 36 but I love both it and Angel. So if you need somewhere to swap favourite moments, this is the thread!

Only just got my first copy. So I don't know, but I bet you find out what happened post the end of Angel. In the first one you discover the truth behind that Angel episode when Buffy was hanging out with the Immortal.

Xander: I laugh in the face of danger. Then run and hide until it goes away

constancereader · 19/01/2008 19:22

Okay - if you really want to know

SPOILER ALERT
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * **
It wasn't the real Buffy. It was one of a couple of fake ones set up to divert attention from the real one. They WERE slayers though, there is a massive army of them out there.

Andrew did some research and said it would be really funny to set this up.

The new villain was fab though......

One question - am I VERY sad to be so excited about this?

We can all hope.

serenity · 19/01/2008 19:35

Well you all seem to know about Season 8 of Buffy, but noone's mentioned that Joss has done Season 6 of Angel in comic form too......

PortAndLemon · 19/01/2008 19:40

DH is reading the Buffy comic (I'm saving it up to read on maternity leave). One recent issue has Spike on the cover, so I'm guessing a big Yes to the question of whether there's any Spike in it...

chrissnow · 19/01/2008 20:00

I've got a few buffy and a few angel graphic novels all pre end of seasons though. Have been selling them off on Amazon (as much as I hate to and the books) I've just run out of room.
Also got entire box sets on VHS that I can't watch since we no longer have a video player downstairs .
I do have the last series of Angel on DVD though may have to revisit that.

constancereader · 19/01/2008 20:01

I didn't know that Serenity - you mean there were some left ALIVE??????

serenity · 19/01/2008 20:01

Spike's in the Angel comics not the Buffy ones, so I think you're going to have both to read on ML

serenity · 19/01/2008 20:04

In the comics, yes. Alive, well not necessarily It didn't start that long ago so I've only got issues 1 and 2, I think I've got issue 3 waiting for me at my local Forbidden Planet (you get them to reserve it for you and they give you a discount when you buy it)

constancereader · 19/01/2008 20:05

Yes, but if Joss wrote them with no annoying TV networks saying the characters can't meet then he could get them together

Losing Fred really traumatised me in the last series of Angel, it was too sad.

runnyhabbit · 19/01/2008 20:16

Ohh, can I join too?

One of my favoutite episodes was when Willow, Xander etc all turned bad, and Angel was chained up. Seem to remember that Willow kept calling Angel her puppy.

Sorry, but JM does not do it for me (although he was fantasic as Spike, not sure about Torchwood)

.....but David Boreneaz(sp?) is gorgeous

Domesticgodless · 19/01/2008 20:25

I looove Buffy and particularly Angel

I think I was the only person to love late Angel, the apocalyptic ones with Connor (who I actually thought was cute) and even the ones where they went to that nasty alternative universe (forget name of it) where Cordelia was the queen.

How sad am I - I actually went to a conference on Buffy about 5 years ago. There is an 'online journal of Buffy studies' called Slayage out there for all you academic type geeks, which is probably still going.

constancereader · 19/01/2008 20:29

So what on earth happened at the conference?

I thought I was obsessed but I don't think I ever considered going to a conference! Was it enjoyable? Were there people dressed up? Was it all discussions about the deeper meanings/social significance of Buffy?

Domesticgodless · 19/01/2008 20:34

No no one dressed up at all sadly! but there were a lot of freaky cultural studies types there!!

Basically I think a lot of academics just really like Buffy and use it as a 'cultural text' to write about, well, pretty much anything they feel like....

I can't remember much about the papers, one was about Spike as a queer icon etc(I thnk I remember that for the slides of him naked heh heh)

a lot of stuff about 'is Buffy really feminist etc etc' and television studies stuff about audiences, reception etc...

I concluded that it was more enjoyable to just watch it

Anya was my favourite

actually I would love to revisit it but fear I would turn into blubbering wreck

Likeasow · 19/01/2008 20:59

Bumping Buffy thread back up.
Anya and the bunny song was great.
I too loved Angel the series - even late ones. HATED Connor though - total twat.
I worry that I am a bit sad as in most ways am quite normal and have always teased 'trekkie' brother - but am properly obsessed - - when I saw the rest of the audience at the JM concert at London was a bit worried about myself. And he is not all that musically bless him. DH thinks its a load of crap - even 'once more with feeling' FGS - such a shame. Whenever I meet another Buffy fan randomly its amazing how quicly we bond in geekdom. would LOVE to go to conference.
Why is SMG never in any of the interviews or meets with cast on the DVD extras.
Got my box set from China a few years ago - cost about 20 quid - was so so so excited - got Angel there too.

constancereader · 19/01/2008 21:03

Ooooh - Anya was my favourite too.
She was just brilliant.
I cried when she died

My dh, while lukewarm about my Buffy obsession in general, LOVED the musical.

Likeasow · 19/01/2008 21:43

May have to try the musical again then - just bought the comic from Amazon along with a book on sibling rivalry while my DDs fight it out in the bedroom...

JimJammum · 19/01/2008 21:55

OMG....a Buffy thread. I thought I was the only no-longer-a-teen that was/is mad about this fab TV. And reading all these posts has just reminded me of all the fab bits: Spike and Buffy in falling down buildings/under carpets/anywhere and everywhere.....and then at the end when he spends the night before she goes off to win the war, and when he's all jealous of Angel. When Spike's down in the basement with nasty headaches..."Who you gonna call? We're never going to be able to say that..." The beginning with Angel looking all mean n moody with black suits and white shirts, and that first kiss. Dancing at the Prom to The Sunday's "Wild Horses". The musical (and I can still sing all the songs). Hush....was just fab with Giles' presentation (the uncut version with Buffy's hand gestures).Didn't watch much of Angel, but loved the ep when Buffy comes back and Angel gets made human. Heart-wrenching. Never could work out whether Buffy should have been with Angel or Spike. Maybe that's a whole new post.
....goes off to get out her videos and Watcher's diaries

Likeasow · 19/01/2008 22:08

Ooh - have to watch Hush again - that is the one with the very scary floaty men?
I think I am part gay teenage boy.....but have got over my shame and am now an OUT Buffy fan. I think Spike....he is more brooding and needy of her....but then soon change my mind whenever I see earlier episodes....Angel was so beautiful in the early days. See him on with Sharon Osborne on Graham Norton the other week? he still has it.

rantinghousewife · 19/01/2008 22:11

Oh yes DB is swoonsome, I can see what people see in JM but DB is my top pick
