Well he can't be that good with kids if his solution to the problem is lying 🤣

SoupDragon · 27/06/2022 07:19

Yeah, because no one lies to their children ever do they?

purpleme12 · 27/06/2022 07:53

Dear me.
There's nothing wrong with me stating my opinion that this was the wrong thing to do in this situation. I'd bet most people, certainly a lot, would agree.
There's not really any point to the sarcy comment is there

SoupDragon · 27/06/2022 08:08

i wasn't being sarcastic.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/06/2022 11:47

Gerbil story was stupid 🙄🙄

OP posts:
AnImaginaryCat · 27/06/2022 12:23

Gerbil story was stupid. It was just nothing. I mean if we were back in the good old days where patient stories had a start, middle and end, the gerbil would have had a purpose. #bringbackthechainsaw

We would have all be wondering what was going to happen when the child bought it in. Did it mean the child's entire family were at home in peril (carbon monoxide poisoning) the gerbil being like a canary down the mines and the child was trying to get help. Or was the gerbil playing dead and plotting on escaping and infecting everyone and turning them into angry zonbies (though Stevie got bit first and no one noticed for a while as her personality didn't actually change.)

But no. It had no purpose. Not even with Dylan after he opened the box. Just a child with a dead gerbil in a box, whose father was both not with and with them (or possibly called in and even then the father didn't think it might be a slight waste of the staffs time!!)

TrashyPanda · 27/06/2022 12:43

Why did the kid take the gerbil to the ED? At his age, he should know that vets are for pets and hospitals are for people. He got there under his own steam, so if he’s capable of that, it’s not logical that he doesn’t know about vets.

if it was meant to show that Marty is good with kids, it failed dismally. One of his biggest characterises is that he is incredibly self centred. The other week he was moaning about how it wasn’t fair he and his partner had to struggle to have a family. You’d think a nurse would be more aware of basic biology. It’s got nothing to do with fairness.

and after Robyn’s bombshell, there was no mention, even in passing, of her (totally unrealistic) offer. Why leave it dangling in the air like that?

TrashyPanda · 27/06/2022 12:49

Who can tell if Rosa has left? David said it was all over between them, but that has nothing to do with her love for Ollie.

right now, Casualty is so disjointed, with storylines that go nowhere, established characters that just disappear (like Rosa) and great long backstories about a doctor whose only purpose up till then was to be a part of Fenishas past. Why would we care?

the exception to this is Stevie’s storyline, where she gets just a little bit more bonkers and violent all the time. I’m picturing her holeing up on the roof with a machine gun, like Malcolm McDowell in If. Sadly, two major shootings in the space of a few weeks is too much , even for Casualty.

purpleme12 · 27/06/2022 13:20

So strange the whole Rosa thing!
At one time she was a good character and her and David had a good thing going on...
Then nothing!

BotCrossHuns · 27/06/2022 16:12

Stevie's character is ridiculous. She wouldn't be able to keep getting away with talking to people like that and treating them like that without some sort of come back or consequence or rebellion or whatever. She's rude and unprofessional and doesn't seem to be a very good doctor with that attitude all the time. It's not even believable. They could make her interacting with a backstory that stops her getting close to people or having occasional bad days but not this wholesale utter bitchiness to everyone all the time. She not likeable at all by anyone.

daffodilandtulip · 27/06/2022 16:46

Depends which Trusts you've worked at I think...

I think it was on a Casualty group on Facebook (I was looking for spoilers) where someone said that the actress had to take time off due to a major shoulder operation.

TrashyPanda · 27/06/2022 17:54

If she is unwell (hope she gets better soon) and unable to appear, it could have been dealt with by other characters speaking about her, how they’d met her, how upset she was etc. not just a one-line brush off.

as a viewer who liked Rosa, I thought it was done really badly.

Cuck00soup · 27/06/2022 22:06

You know those continuity games where people come up with the maddest new development in the story?

This is now how casualty is written.

unvillage · 27/06/2022 23:27

The guy from Hinterland looks a bit different these days! Is he sticking around as the resident anaesthetist?

Honestly after David's breakdown the comedy gerbil story and the comedy fat people story and the comedy stoned couple story really grated on me. OK lighten the mood a little, but really? Seemed childish.

BotCrossHuns · 02/07/2022 21:43

Now Faith's daughter is in there too. And David working on the day of the funeral. They're not even trying to keep it realistic or trying to make us reassured about the mental state of any of the people treating us.

BotCrossHuns · 02/07/2022 21:52

And like Faith is going to confide in the least to Stevie, if all people

TrashyPanda · 02/07/2022 22:57

Faith is really slow off the mark.
and her hair was as bad as ever.

now, the church was in the countryside. So, not in Holby itself. What are the chances of one of the other victims being buried at the same church? Far less in a grave right beside the church. And in a grave without a headstone, meaning it’s not an established lair. These “prime” plots are the ones that go first when the graveyard is consecrated. And that church was at least 100 years old.

this is just really shoddy stuff.

purpleme12 · 03/07/2022 00:18

I was really disappointed that he didn't go the funeral

BotCrossHuns · 03/07/2022 08:29

Did he not in the end? I'd kind of half given up watching. I thought he was walking in and had agreed to speak. Then it ended. But maybe I missed something.

And I'm not sure a busy hospital area with thin curtains on the cubicles is the place for a talk about safe sex, whatever has happened. She could at least wait til they're home and private - not like it had to be said right that instant - no wonder she doesn't want to talk to her mum about stuff if that's how she goes about it.

SoupDragon · 03/07/2022 08:56

It's a drama. It isn't meant to be completely real. If it was it would be incredibly dull. Everything is done for dramatic effect.

BotCrossHuns · 03/07/2022 09:20

of course not. But there is a lot of grey area between totally real/documentary, and absolutely utterly ridiculous. And they have slid too far to the ridiculous side of it lately. I liked it when there was lots about the patients and the injuries/illnesses, and only a little about the staff. And most of the injuries and illnesses were believeable or a little on the unusual side, but you could still enjoy finding out about the medical stuff and seeing what happened to them in a semi-realistic way. Now it seems the medical stuff is just a random backdrop/setting for a staff soap opera.

No. He did say he was coming in and speaking. The he asked for a few minutes, everyone went it. The he noticed a new grave (no headstone) just to the right of the church church entrance. There was about 4,000 flowers on it (think one arrangement was made to say "Helen"). Anyway, there was a weeping woman holding more flowers approaching it.

He remembered Ollie as a child (we saw it as a slightly slow mo few seconds) then we were shown an aerial shot of David walking away from the church.

Least I think that's what happened however I watched it a few hours ago after just coming in from work and I'd not slept for 24 hours. I just stupid woken again now so might be slightly delirious 😄

BotCrossHuns · 03/07/2022 09:33

ah that makes sense. I saw the grave and the weeping woman, but not the shot of him walking away. I think I was just listening to the music and assuming that he'd gone in by that point, and not actively watching!! I thought he'd finally accepted it.

SoupDragon · 03/07/2022 09:44

The grave was for Louise, one of the victims. I think the same one that Milly's mother had gone to the funeral of and berated David about in the ED. That's why it had to be obvious and right by the door to that particular church
