It's back. I struggled to get in to series 1 at first, but then I got hooked. I am so ready for this escapist drama.

I'm currently watching Episode 3 of the 2nd series. God, I'm so bored of this series. No scandal. No sex. No interesting plot. I do like the 2 eldest brothers from an eye candy point of view, so there is that I suppose. Disappointing.

Titsflyingsouth · 26/03/2022 22:06

Benedict is sex on a stick. Grin Keep thinking back to him and Madame De La Croix in series one.

Lock. The. Door.

I think I'm having a hot flush....

colouringindoors · 26/03/2022 22:27

Apparently they've toned down the sex sad

Noooooooo Wink

colouringindoors · 26/03/2022 22:32

Hmmm.. I'm finding series 2 dull, for a variety of reasons, but mainly that Antony and Kate are just miserable, not funny, and pretty unlikeable. Really disappointed tbh as series 1 was great fun.

Bat3 · 26/03/2022 22:34

I’ve binged watched it today.
Having loved series 1, I’m a bit disappointed. Kate and Anthony just didn’t have the chemistry and passion of Daphne and Simon. I found them a bit wooden.

bonfireheart · 26/03/2022 22:49

Anthony had great chemistry with the lady he was sleeping with last series but it just isn't working between these two.

Has anyone noticed the musical jokes that have been put in? I won’t spoil it for you, but in at least two ball scenes, the music is somewhat anachronistic, to say the least!

I have watched it all, and now I need to go back and check all the music.

They did this in season one too - all of the "classical" music used for balls/dancing is modern pop music that has been reworked into classic orchestrations.

There's an official Bridgerton playlist on Spotify with all of the season one orchestrations, I like to play it for a bit of background music when I'm working/reading at home, but I don't know if they have added season two's songs yet.

@marmiteadict

Can anyone who's recently read the book confirm if there have been changes as this isn't how I remembered the plot !
They've changed quite a lot from the book - some for the better since, in the book, the "turning point" in Anthony and Kate's relationship is basically the same "caught in a compromising situation so must be married" trope as Daphne and Simon in S1 and there's really not much point in making S2 if it's just going to be exactly the same plot formula as S1 of "one person wants to marry, the other doesn't, they end up in a compromising situation and are forced to marry anyway and then oops, turns out it was true love after all"

But then, because they changed things from the book they had to rework other plot points to make them fit the new perspective - eg the bee sting is important to Anthony's character but they couldn't keep it the same as in the book but they also couldn't just leave it out altogether so they reworked it in later.

The music has been like that throughout, from the beginning of series 1! Instrumental versions of modern tunes is what gives some scenes such a modern flavour.

Alanis Morisette, Madonna & Rihanna etc.

Gooseysgirl · 27/03/2022 12:10

Not a patch on the first series but I still bloody loved it... it's something frivolous to loose yourself in with all the shit going on the world right now. However, I would have liked a bit more bedroom action 😆 Regé still has the edge for me over Jonathan... 😍😍😍

marmiteadict · 27/03/2022 12:21

@melj1213 thanks for that. It is a very good point that the plot would had basically been the same as series one unless they made changes. Makes a lot more sense now

TheSonjaMorgan · 27/03/2022 12:27

Terribly disappointing. No chemistry between the 2 main characters. Can't tell the brothers apart. No fun. Boring.

This sums it up for me:

I found it disappointing. Watched two episodes, can't be bothered with more. The fun's gone, and Kate Sharma is so dour and humourless, it's painful.

diddl · 27/03/2022 12:41

@bonfireheart

Anthony had great chemistry with the lady he was sleeping with last series but it just isn't working between these two.
Wouldn't that have been a thing-if he'd married beneath him??

Haven't watched yet but probably won't as not interested in his character.

Nor Benedict's!

Might watch Colin's story to see how it pans out re Penelope.

If they do a series per character.

Londonlassy · 27/03/2022 12:48

I found the Kate Sharma character grating. Did not enjoy her as the romantic lead at all

Notonthestairs · 27/03/2022 12:53

I've watched four episodes and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought Kate and Anthony's relationship/chemistry is starting to develop quite nicely.

I find Eloise a bit distracting but I can see how they are trying to keep the unmasking of Penelope storyline going. Lovely to see Marina.

Fernsinthegarden · 27/03/2022 12:55

@Sharrowgirl

I wish they’d get Penelope out of all that awful yellow.
@Sharrowgirl I read some of the books and from memory the yellow clothes was a deliberate thing, bright yellow was an unfashionable colour and so cheaper, her mother didn’t want to waste the money on a daughter who she didn’t think would marry well :( it comes in the next one I think (if they do the books in order) and she starts dressing in what she likes. Has anyone followed the Twitter account that critiques the costumes in bridgerton and other period dramas btw? Can’t think of the name at the moment but it was really excellent when the first series came out.
Fernsinthegarden · 27/03/2022 12:56

Also not finding this series as witty or comic as the last one, there are moments but a lot of it seems a bit forced.

MinglingFlamingo · 27/03/2022 13:08

Watched first 3 episodes

Eloise is really annoying me especially with the whose Lady Whistledown quest . Poor Penelope

Viscount Bridgerton is fit, but I admit some of that might be due to the title.

Daphne is very smug married now. The way she was describing how she and The Duke fell in love. Had she completely forgotten how they got together and that basically they were together as a ruse.

I just want this season over with to see if Penelope and Collin get together

I haven't, but I'd be interested to know it too. The costumes are one of my favourite bits. I'm on episode 3 and I'm enjoying it. It's not as strong as series one partly because it's missing the novelty and chemistry, but it's still good, escapist fantasy.

Candlecassie · 27/03/2022 15:07

I am on episode 8 at the moment. Not near as good as series 1. A little disappointed. The costumes and sets are stunning though. As is the music.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2022 16:04

I didn’t notice the music in series 1 - I am such a numpty!

Andylion · 27/03/2022 16:57

I can’t tell the brothers apart either and I don’t even know how many there are. Isn’t Rupert Evans one of them?
I actually like Anthony. That actor played quite a dick in W1A. He’s much more likeable here.

I don’t think Kate has any personality, she is just one-note. Edwina is slightly more interesting.

Andylion · 27/03/2022 16:59

That’s the only thing that really interests me.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 27/03/2022 17:00

Is it me or was Colin more good looking in season 1? He looks like a chipmunk now/

Sunshinegirl82 · 27/03/2022 17:14

I am loving it, they have changed up the story but I don't mind that. Only complaint is that I would probably have had the "resolution" as it were come a bit earlier with a bit more time afterwards.

I am wondering if they might swap Colin's and Benedict's stories round? Seem to be maybe hinting at that?

It's going to be a long wait for season 3! Perhaps they can persuade Rege to return for a few scenes somewhere along the line!
