It's back. I struggled to get in to series 1 at first, but then I got hooked. I am so ready for this escapist drama.

OP posts:

What I’m really confused about is….

A - Anthony
B - Benedict
C - Colin
D - Daphne
E - Eloise
F - ??????
G - Gregory
H - Hyacinth

Who is F and where the hell is she?!

Francesca

She was in season 1 a little bit but not in season 2 for some reason

WashedupTroll · 06/04/2022 12:00

She was in the first few episodes but had a filming clash, she was meant to be more prominent in s2 but her book isn't until S6

PaddlingLikeADuck · 06/04/2022 13:42

It’s just odd that in both series she’s never there and never mentioned. It all seems a bit pointless.

Agreed. They could at least make it part of the plot. Add a few words “oh yes whilst Francesca is off visiting aunt so and so again” or “always in her room typical Francesca” I don’t know anything about her personality but this would make more sense
colouringindoors · 06/04/2022 21:47

Episode 6. Feel sorry for Edwina.

I also agree! Especially as she's not Out yet and had her first season . I'm not sure girls went to boarding school in those days but she could have been shipped off to one perhaps

Last night I tried watching Season Two again (I have watched S1 four times and still love it) but after the first episode of S2 I didn’t bother watching anymore.

The first time I watched S2 I watched all the episodes to see how it panned out, but it’s certainly not worthy of a second watch.

Despite loving all the other characters, the awful wooden acting of the woman who plays Kate Sharma just ruins it for me.

@SmellyOldOwls

Sorry that sounds like those are qualities I think are hopeless - I am bookish and very overweight! I don't think the Featheringtons value those qualities very much is what I meant.

Why was Colin such a little turd at the end? I don't even want them to get together now, Penelope deserves someone really witty who really appreciates her.

Yes horrible behaviour
Selma22 · 08/04/2022 01:30

In the book he actually points out that it has taken him too long to realise who she is as a person

Silverclocks · 08/04/2022 08:10

Colin seems to have had a personality transplant in Greece. I liked him in the first series.

I don't think he was deliberately cruel in what Pen overheard at the end though. He grew up with her as a "sister" and just doesn't see her that way. The other men were probably being unkind.

BrightOrangeOrange · 08/04/2022 11:56

I made the mistake of finishing Season 1 and starting 2 straight after last night. I am missing the Duke. My DSD has watched both and she said the 2nd one isn't as good. I've not read the whole thread yet. I will carry on watching but I'm not desperate to binge watch it.

BrightOrangeOrange · 08/04/2022 12:00

I've just a few comments about Johnny Flynn, I agree he is lovely.

AngeloMysterioso · 08/04/2022 12:20

I don’t get why RJP wasn’t in it at all this season? I mean surely he’d have been in attendance at Anthony’s wedding?

Because he didn't want to be in the show as its small part for him from now on
doyourselfafavour · 08/04/2022 14:01

I think season 2 could have been better if they played around with Kates character a bit. I mean they could have made her more mature, witty, fun and more likeable to the audience. Her assertiveness became irritating, her being difficult was no different to my toddlers behaviour, her trying to one-up Anthony was really childish,

boring and predictable. She wasn't wooden, she was concrete. Literally like a cavewoman which is a shame because she doesn't offer anything other than her beauty. They could've made her more interesting. Anthony was no different, so it wasn't a refreshing love story. It was basically two soulless boring people with a chip on their shoulders falling in love.

They offered him a lot of money but he wouldn’t take it.

In the book, it explains why he was so awful to Pen in that scene when he is overheard by her chatting to the group of other blokes.

I really like the Benedict and Colin and Eloise characters but I do wish (in some respects) having read the books (I'm on to book 8 now, Gregory's story) that the screen writers had stuck a little more to the characters as they appear in the books and not strayed as much to make the series 'likeable'.

woodhill · 08/04/2022 16:52

Are the books well written?

Another thing I've noticed in tv series is there no mention of the historical events that were taking place at the time. In Jane Austen someone is usually a soldier for example

Marina’s baby daddy is a soldier? Buckingham Palace is under construction?

They keep mentioning Napoleon and he was around at that time. And they have the right king and queen for the time too
woodhill · 08/04/2022 18:16

Yes that's true, I'd forgotten about Marina's dh being away at war

WashedupTroll · 08/04/2022 19:02

And the king blaming the Queen for killing his child (although I think they made the child a girl)

liquidrevolution · 09/04/2022 10:15

The books are ok. Im reading mainly to find out what happens to them all. I only have Gregory's to read now. Hyacinths story is my favourite.

I skim the sex bits Grin

Sunflowers765 · 10/04/2022 00:05

I love the way all the flowers are in full bloom
all the time. The daffodils, roses, wisteria, tulips, and every other flower known to man. All in full bloom for the whole series all at once! Move over, Gardener's World!
